Melody9's 'slim family' on MTs2,
There's both a Melody9 and a Melodie9 at MTS2.  Dunno whether it's one person with two user IDs or two different people.
52  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to put downloaded clothing in the right categories? on: 2007 February 22, 09:12:06
I think the creators have box tickitis. I have some bloody outfits appearing in every category.
I don't mind stuff being in two categories if it's appropriate.  Some swimsuit/underwaer, athletic/everyday, etc., make sense.  Even certain everyday/formal crossovers.  But some creators need to get a grip.
53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Maxoid Sam trusts the Feedback forms as little as we do? on: 2007 February 20, 12:01:57
Is it possible to go over Yosemite Sam's head? Why deal with the inept?
It might be more to the point to go under him.  He's sounding like the kind of manager who thinks he doesn't need to understand the technical bits because he has people for that.

Must be male NPCs:
-repo man
-headmaster
I could have sworn I had a female headmaster once.  If I did, it was a long time ago, either pre-Uni or just after, and I don't have that neihborhood anymore to check.
55  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Pinstar's new Apocalypse challenge on: 2006 September 07, 17:31:09
I'm sorry if the advantages of OFB didn't occur to you but it's rather unsporting to change the rules in midgame just because somebody else is cleverer than you were, especially when the rule-change goes against the primary premise.

It's fine-tuning, beta-testing if you like.  No one is perfect, to find every possible loophole, especially in a challenge this detailed.  Having some extra eyes go over the rules just makes it more interesting.  Most people are going to choose to play this specifically because they want something to make the game more difficult after getting bored with how easy "standard gameplay" is.

Yeah, maybe it would have been nice if Pinstar had said something like "This is a preliminary version--gimme feedback and after X amount of time I will update it to the final version."  But so what.  At least he is listening to the feedback and following up.  Most of the really good challenges evolve a little before they stabilize.

Anyway, no one is looking over your shoulder, checking to see whether you are really following the rules.  Plenty of people play modified challenges to suit their own notion of what works.  It's not like anyone is judging the outcome.  Sure, if you are going to talk about your results, it's only honest to mention you used modified rules, but who knows, maybe some people will like your version better.

ETA:
In the standard Maxian game, there's no advantage to earning money at Uni, yes? When you leave, you lose it and pick up the 20k handout... unless I've forgotten something (I avoid Uni generally).

Don't they get whichever is greater--20K or their accumulated wealth?

(It's been a while since I played pure Uni--now I just stuff their inventory with high-value loot so I can divide up shares the way I want.)

It drives me up the wall when they throw the damn bottle on the floor!

Maybe it's about not being able to hold two things at once.  Maybe it's a choice between throwing the bottle on the floor and throwing the baby on the floor.
57  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Pinstar's new Apocalypse challenge on: 2006 September 06, 20:31:56
My assumption for the Uni-business thing would be that...

It gets destroyed in the Fallout. Makes sense right? So while you can still have the snapdragons and whatnot in your inventory, you cannot keep your business after the fallout. Although the money perk would be nice to have.

I thought the premise was that only the local neighborhood was destroyed, because the founder was safe while at University? So anything at University can't have been affected.

Although, it does make a honkin' big loophole that ought to be plugged.
58  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Undead Scholarship on: 2006 August 26, 17:20:21
I think I read around here somewhere that is just another case of Maxis being sloppy--they updated how it works to include vampires, but forgot to change the text to say so.
59  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Problem with Satisfying Sibling/Sim Goes to College Want on: 2006 August 26, 01:11:23

I used to have problems with college memories if I moved a fresh YA into an already populated dorm.  I dn't know if that's till the case, since I never risk it anymore.

So... are you saying that, everytime you move a sim to uni, you use a totally new dorm? As in one that is totally unoccupied and requires the generation of new dormies? I think that would be a bit extreme, and open your game up to excessive generation of dormies... well, unless you use nodormieregen or something. In which case, you'd have pretty sparse dorms...

I did move the 1st brother into a dorm that was already occupied... but then it is still kind of weird that the sister in the other dorm got a memory for the 1st brother and not the 2nd brother.

I'm wondering if this is connected to how you don't get the Going to College cutscene if you move them into an already occupied place?  The times that has happened in my game I wasn't trying to satisfy a Sibling Goes to College want, so I didn't notice whether the older sibling got the memory.

If you would like to know what I did with your snapshot, here is a link to what I have done with it.

Beware BBS link

This is a work in progress at the moment.  Uploads there are more successful when done a little at a time.

Excellent idea, and quite detailed.  Maybe some of the sheeple will even understand it, if their faces get rubbed in it firmly enough.

It appears to have a max of 6 in any one dimension, but yes, the carpool issue is one of my concerns.
62  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Lot Expander on: 2006 August 21, 00:16:55
Has anyone Awesome looked at the Lot Expander http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=175884 for changing the size of a lot?  Is it safe?

If you scroll down to post #28, there are downloadable 1x1 and 2x1 lots.

Edit:  I obviously suffered a mind fart on entering links
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: DEATH & DESTRUCTION to Lobster Thermidor on: 2006 August 18, 16:10:08
I don't mind lobster thermidor in general, but I do wish the stupid nanny would stop making it (for herself or as a group meal). Nannies don't get to eat that well, darn it!

I usually adjust nannies down to 9 cooking points.  Not that that takes care of the many other nanny issues.
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Shared user made neighborhoods and missing graves problem on: 2006 August 16, 16:04:33
This won't help lechapeau's problem, but reading this thread got me thinking.

I use an alternate Sims 2 folder for testing that has been stripped down to load fast.  I created a custom neighborhood, then deleted the three premade neighborhoods.  It has only a handfull of downloads, and minimal hacks.  But looking at it I think I could delete even more--is it safe to delete the Tutorial neighborhood folder? What about the contents of the LotCatalog folder, the SC4Terrains folder (would you need to leave in the one you are using for the custom n'hood?), and the premade pictures in the Storytelling folder?  With all that gone it wouldn't be much larger than the neighborhood folder alone.  (Umm, talking about deleting all that from a newly generated set of files, not from the main game files, of course.)

So I'm wondering whether that would be a safer way to do a round robin or shared neighborhood--passing a sims 2 folder, rather than just a neighborhood folder.  That way, a defined set of downloads and hacks would be included--obviously more than I have in my test setup, but still fewer than most of us have in our main game--as well as no problems with changing the neighborhood number.  I guess it would make the issue of everyone having the same EPs and patches more critical, though, because of hack compatibility.  The round robins I'm familiar with have been limited to 4 or 5 players anyway, so that doesn't seem like a such huge obstacle, but maybe it could be in some situations.
65  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: SimPe objects price limit on: 2006 August 14, 23:23:19
That's what jumped into my mind when I saw 32,500 or something close to it cited as a limit.  16 bits can represent values in the range 0 to 65535 unsigned.  But if it's a signed field, then you get something like -32767 to 32767.  (I may be 1 off at the extremes--it's been a lot of years since I had to know this stuff.)
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: SimPe objects price limit on: 2006 August 14, 21:06:15
Is the limit exactly 32,500?  Or is it more like 32,768?
67  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Expensive Wall/Floors? on: 2006 August 14, 03:02:47
Out of curiosity, does clicking the thanks button actually do something, or is just a hoax?

Ummm, it's particularly appropriate when one is informed one has done something woolly-headed.   Tongue
68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Expensive Wall/Floors? on: 2006 August 13, 17:26:06
gjam, do you have the latest version of Homecrafter? It doesn't seem to create the duplicates anymore, at least not for me.

Duh!  [slaps head]  I had problems installing the new version, and meant to re-download it later and try again, but I forgot.  [clicks Thanks button several times]
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Expensive Wall/Floors? on: 2006 August 13, 14:50:44
Either I'm doing something stupid (quite possible) or HomeCrafter doesn't actually change the price, anyway.  All I can get it to do is create a duplicate copy of the wall or floor which has the updated price.  Talk about cluttering up my Downloads folder...

I'm going to check out the WTF Editor mentioned upthread.
70  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My sims are turning into lushes. on: 2006 August 12, 17:10:11
The thing that really makes sims stupid is their inability to remember what they were doing before they got interrupted.  I realize it could get out of hand with interruptions on top of interruptions on top of interruptions, but would it have been that hard to give them one level of recall?

Of course, if they had, I guess we would all be bitching about how sims couldn't remember two things.
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fitness levels on: 2006 August 07, 20:08:31
I keep forgetting that I can put food in inventory now.  Sometimes I tell a not-very-hungry sim to eat just because a meal has been prepared that will go bad before he needs it.  Letting prepared food go to waste annoys me.  But the time inefficiency of each sim preparing one serving annoys me, too.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pregnant sim at work? on: 2006 August 07, 19:57:26
One solution to that is to always save a lot when all the sims are home, preferably just before they go to bed or very close to when they would normally wake up.  That way they don't miss work or school when they're reset.  After having the issue you mention to many times, I've just gotten into the habit of quiting lots when they're all home and asleep.

That's what I do, too.  In fact, even if I'm not quitting the lot, I routinely save early each morning just before they wake up.
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Correct syntax for familyfunds 'cheat' please? on: 2006 August 06, 18:42:54
That's correct.  If there are multiple families with the same name, you need to click on the appropriate house or sim bin family first before entering the cheat.  Otherwise it'll act on the first family that had that name.

Ah, that makes sense.
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Correct syntax for familyfunds 'cheat' please? on: 2006 August 06, 16:40:39
This may or may not be related to having more than one household in the neighborhood with the same family name—I didn't remember to look to see whether the other household(s) received an unexpected influx of cash.  Roll Eyes

How does familyfunds handle multiple households with the same name?  The one time I really wanted to use it, I had four brothers at university in four different dorms.  I chickened out and didn't try.
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Private School & The Headmaster. WTF? on: 2006 August 05, 21:39:39
Someone above posted a link to a page about how to get a really high score.  Well, I don't care as long as it's high enough, but the person who wrote that page sounds reasonably competent.

However, they talked about getting the HM to go to the part of a room that had the best environment and said it didn't matter if there was clutter/mess in other parts of the room.  I thought the environment score applied to the whole room.  I thought the thing about putting a bright light next to an expensive painting and having the HM stand close was a sheeple myth.

So which is true?  Can you get different environment scores in different areas of a room?  Does it depend on how big the room is, how far away the dirty area is from the good area?
