26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: userStartup.cheat on: 2007 March 27, 16:25:07
Here it is. Smiley There are a couple other posts in the thread about it as well, this is just the first one I could find.
Well, then.  I wonder how I got it confused with a Pets cheat?  I don't even have Seasons yet. At least that explains why my searches for Pets cheats weren't turning anything up.

I guess the mind really is the first thing to go.
27  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The scarecrow on: 2007 March 27, 16:16:27

I may be wrong here, but judging from Ellatrue's post and the part of amjoie's post that Ellatrue quoted, I think her problem was more the implication that there's something wrong with people that like the deaths in the game:

Not all of the MaxisEA target audience is +/- twenty-something looking for any kind of excitement to validate their existence. Not all of us think death is a kick

That was amjoie's response to the people who jumped all over his/her original comment:

They must either be smoking something, or just be warped. I have seriously wondered about the creaters of the Sims 2. ...

I also don't appreciate their sadistic fetish about killing off my Sims. Especially killing them with things that should normally be wonderful parts of life, like sitting in front of a warm fire on a cold night, or gathering around a Christmas tree to celebrate. I customize and mod everything to bits -- all so I can play a decent game, pleasing to my eye, without burying most of my Sims before their very short lifespan has been fulfilled. If I wanted some adreniline pumping slaughter, I'd buy a shooter. I play the Sims to relax and enjoy myself.

As well as the implication that people who enjoy the deaths in the game haven't encountered much suffering in real life, that was what bugged me about amjoie's post, and I thought that was what Ellatrue was trying to say.

The second comment did come across somewhat that way, but I took it in the context of amjoie getting defensive about all the negative responses to his/her first comment.

I also should have made it clear I was responding to the collective dogpiling, not just Ellatrue alone.

Wait.  A while ago, wasn't someone saying that if they included a particular cheat, that nothing after that was being recognized?  I can't remember which one or whether it was ever confirmed to be a real phenomenon.  Hmm, looks like one of the Pets cheats, because I have those stuck at the very bottom of my file with a note not to put anything after them.

Grumble, grumble.  I've been searching, and I can't find that comment.  Hope I didn't dream it.
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: userStartup.cheat on: 2007 March 27, 15:12:58
My cheats are written like so:

alias snapn "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false" "snap to grid = no" "snap to grid = no"
alias snapy "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid true" "snap to grid = yes" "snap to grid = yes"

The last two arguments are just help text.  They don't make any difference to the functionality.  I'm currently using a null string for the last one, and I have in the past used a null string for both.

Code:
alias m "moveObjects on" "Move normally unmovable objects" ""
alias m- "moveObjects off" "Do not move normally unmovable objects" ""

30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The scarecrow on: 2007 March 27, 14:57:04
Excuse me?

The problem here isn't twenty-somethings. It's you taking the game WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. If the sims 2 has become an escape for you, you need to stop and join a book club or something. Of course life is short and painful, but that shouldn't have any bearing on how much you seem to be reacting to a computer game. You need to seperate real life from the sims. Don't complain to us because you have no perspective.

No, excuse me!

Isn't disagreeing with how MaxisEA coded the game at least half of what modding is all about?  Sure some if it is bugfixes, but the rest is changing the game to suit our personal preference as to what would make it "better".

Whether I agree with amjoie's specific complaint, or not, how is it different from complaining that they can't have triplets or quads?  How is it different from complaining that the nannies are stupid?  How is it different from complaining that employees at businesses don't behave right? How is it different from complaining that the skins aren't realistic? How is it different from every other complaint I see on this site?

Yes, I know mods exist to alter all of those examples.  That's precisely my point.  If they hadn't annoyed somone in the first place, the mods wouldn't have been created. But,not everyone has the skills to make the mods they want.  Some of us have to hope that someone else will make them.  And horrors, if we look around and don't find what we want, sometimes we even talk about our ideas, to try to inspire someone to create it.
31  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Fix: Performance sucking on Dual Core and HT CPUs on: 2007 March 25, 00:07:13
Tools > Folder Options... > View > Uncheck the box next to "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"

Aha.  I thought I already had everything visible, but that box was still checked.

That won't work -- it isn't there to be found. I searched my whole C drive. Nada
....
Note: If you have an AMD dual core and installed the AMD drivers, the /usepmtimer would be inserted into your boot.ini for you."

Well, Venusy's instructions worked for me.  But that last statement would explain why the switch was already in there, once I did find it.
32  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Fix: Performance sucking on Dual Core and HT CPUs on: 2007 March 24, 22:10:33
  • Open boot.ini in notepad and add the /usepmtimer switch

Where should I be looking for boot.ini?

So far all I can find is reboot.ini and boot.ini.backup
33  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Fishing in owned community lots on: 2007 March 21, 13:58:06
Hah, but it's not like visitors are harvesting your plants autonomously. Different issue entirely. We'd be similarly outraged if visitors were casually harvesting our plants and absconding with the loot autonomously.

Yeah, but did MaxisEA comprehend that fine distinction?
34  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Fishing in owned community lots on: 2007 March 21, 13:46:36
On all other occasions, those goods should belong to the sim that performed the harvesting, whether or not it is selectable.

Any thoughts?

Remember how PO'd everyone was about visitors harvesting our money trees?
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Overheating has gone too far!! on: 2007 March 12, 16:40:34
OK, I play really REALLY boring - I try to keep everyone happy, I've never had a vampire, a zombie a warewolf or a plant person - or even an alien.  No one bursting into flames.  I almost never have romance or party sims.  Almost no affairs or fights.  None of my children flunk out or get taken away from their parents.

I just realized that I must be the most boring person to ever play any of the Sims games!   Angry  Is there an award for that - or at least an intervention?

Sorry, you'll have compete with me for that title.  Tongue
36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My Wish List for a Sims File Utility on: 2007 March 12, 16:21:53
A neighborhood/character editor would also be spiffy, but if you try to cram too much into one utility you're going right back to SimPE.  I'd like to see a few standalone programs that cover all aspects of *one* part of the game at a time.

That's exactly what we need.
37  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Seasons - Temperature Studies - Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Over? on: 2007 March 11, 17:15:46
To be honest, we're not entirely sure WHAT is being modelled by the spontaneous plague. Sims can apparently contract the plague purely from being cold, and by cold, we mean "not on fire" (the chance of contracting the plague at >= 70 is 0, and is instead replaced with the impending fiery combustion), which violates the currently accepted germ theory of disease and apparently reverts us back to spontaneous generation. How Maxians can remain ignorant of the most important concept in currently accepted medical science is beyond me.

So a sim is always at risk of either the plague or SHC?  Bizarre.

I suppose they were going for the traditional belief that being cold compromises the immune system, making one more likely to become ill, but overdid it as usual.

Question:  I've seen this referred to countless times but am not sure what it is...what's a Legacy family, actually?

39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Odd things I noticed about Seasons on: 2007 March 09, 08:02:40
Moving houses into the lot bin and placing them in another hood is generally considered a VBT, and is the leading cause of BFBVFS.

I thought it was only a VBT if the house had sims in it?  Does it apply to vacant houses too?
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pet hack search on: 2007 March 09, 06:30:10
And I'm so jealous of you guys who haven't had any problems with the pet bowls! I prefer to keep pet dishes next to the wall where they're more tidy, but in the house I'm playing now, first the Sim fills the bowl, putting it back down somehow "facing" the wall so the pet can't access it (the hell? it's a *round* bowl!). So, go into Buy Mode, grab it, turn it back around. Then the dog goes and does such a vigorous job of chomping on lunch that the bowl gets turned around again. Back to Buy Mode, grab the bowl... rinse and repeat ad nauseam.  Roll Eyes I wonder why that's happening in some games but not in others?

I've played two houses with pets so far.  One has the most expensive round bowl, and the other has the cheap square bowl.  In both houses the bowl has been in two different locations: in a corner and against a straight wall with another object to one side. I haven't had any problems* with them at all.

I have noticed that the square bowl rotates 45o and the pet stands at the same angle while eating. It occurs to me that  might cause a problem if the bowl is blocked on three sides, such as against a straight wall between two other objects.

* I don't think it's related to the bowl:  My glitchy cat originally ran away while Grimmy was standing in her food bowl (he came to pick up the elder who was trying to refill it).
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Runaway Cat found by Social Bunny on: 2007 March 08, 18:56:59
Update:

1. I tried the Lot Debugger and the Retrieve Missing Sim option came up, but when I clicked it, it didn't do anything.  I tried Christianluv's pet teleporter, but the cat didn't appear on the list of available pets.

2. Then I went to a different lot and used the pet teleporter to teleport it in there.  They did the check collar and call owner routine.  The owner came over to get it, but I think an interaction dropped out of queue due to a blocked path, and the owner started wandering around doing typical visiting sims kinds of stuff.  I thought maybe I needed to say goodbye to the owner, but she left without taking the cat  I tried to call her again, but the option wasn't available.

3. I went to a third house and teleported the cat in there, hoping they would be able to call her, but the option wasn't available there, either.

4. So I used the Move In option of the pet teleporter to move the cat into that house.  That seemed to work OK, and it seems to be behaving normally there.  Except...its icon still says Ran Away, even after three simdays.

Hmm, I forgot to go back to the original household and see if its icon was gone from there.  Maybe I need to do that so everything can clear.

LOL!
43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Runaway Cat found by Social Bunny on: 2007 March 07, 16:10:15
Anyone want to take a break from Seasons and help me with Pets, which I've only recently installed?  Is this normal weirdness, or is something borken?

A cat ran away.  It was wearing a collar, and I called to report it missing.  The following day, I got a phone call saying it had been found, did I want it brought back?  I answered yes and the caller said he would bring it right over.  However, the caller was the Social Bunny and the cat never showed up.

The other thing that may be related is that it ran away while an elder was dying.  But I didn't see any of that happen because I was upstairs watching a baby transition to toddler, also happening at the same time.  (It was an eventful moment...)  Oh yeah, this is the Goth house.  I'm playing in a freshly generated Pleasantview for now, before I put my custom neighborhood back in.

It's been another day now, and all of the cat's needs are in the red.  I tried turning on the pet commands and telling it to Go Here, but that didn't help.  I haven't tried the Pet Teleporter yet, would that do any good?

I have Uni, NL, OFB, and Pets.  I have recent downloads of the Pets Director's Cuts from JM and TwoJeffs, although I didn't install every hack.  I do NOT have the Kitten Killer, or any of its relatives.
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Werewolves, Max all Skills LTW and Eggplant Juice on: 2007 March 06, 08:50:22
Eggplant actually do contain a lot of liquid.  So much so that the prep for some recipes involves layering slices between paper towels and setting something heavy on top to press the juice out.

Drinking it sounds disgusting, tough.
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Just came back from a LONG sims break, need some advice on: 2007 March 01, 13:14:20
[I updated the list, but I overwrote i.e. got rid of the old info for zOMGWTFPETZ!111 Tongue Sowweee.  I figured that was old info and no one cared.
I knew I should have gotten my lists organized before Seasons came out and everyone started updating, so I can't really blame anyone but myself.  Do you have stuff anywhere else besides Peasantry and Taster's Choice?

*Demands that syberspunk gets his own section!*
Ditto.  Or at the very least his own subforum.
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: censor.package and userstartupcheat on: 2007 March 01, 11:35:36
I'll attach the censor.package to this post, since it's MIA right now.

Thank you.

Does anyone know what's going on with Quaxi's site?  I just tried to get the Pets version of the censor blur remover and all the links are broken.  Everthing just takes me back to the front page.

Hello guys, I stopped playing sims 2 for about half a year now, and I just came back.
I still have all the old hacks and my old download folders, with OFB stuffs. everything i downloaded before
Now i got the PETs expansion, can anyone give me a general idea of what will be conflicting etc when I install the Pets expansion
not just Pescado's hacks, also other hacks available on the net in general.
or if you know there is a list of conflicting/updates floating somewhere on the net, please kindly provide a link.
Thanks a bunch!

I'm doing exactly the same. Same time frame, even.  I've been lurking around, trying to get back up to date.  I'm hoping to install Pets tonight or tomorrow.

I haven't looked at hacks outside of MATY yet. I only have a couple of those.

ETA: http://www.the-isz.com/theisz/index.php?showtopic=278  looks useful.
50  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Weird maternity outfit on: 2007 February 27, 02:25:07
...when I left her at her lot, she wasn't even showing yet so she wasn't wearing maternity clothing.  I wonder why she showed up as part of the welcome wagon in her third trimester, on the Monday before the Wednesday she actually did get pregnant.  I have no idea how the whole chronology from lot to lot is supposed to work, but oh well.

There isn't any chronology from lot to lot.  Only a vast and eternal now.

Whatever state she was in when you saved her on her home lot, that's how she will show up as a visitor.  It doesn't matter how many days have passed on that lot as opposed to her home lot. The weird thing, though, is that each day of pregnancy is a different state.  She shouldn't be showing up with a third day belly if she was only first day pregnant on her home lot.
