Title: New OFB info
Post by: nikita on 2005 December 04, 20:26:08
I was perusing Snooty Sims and found a link to some new Open for Business information.

http://www.eaplay.com/australia/games/pc/sims/business/

So far from what I've read, it sounds 10 times better than Nightlife.

Sounds interesting, but I don't really trust ea all that much. It's not as if they are know for consistency and customer service. However, if they keep what they promise, it sounds interesting enough to check out.

Doesn't anyone else think it's strange that it's December and we haven't had any official information off EA?
I remember in May (i.e. 4 months before NL was released) watching a 15 minute video of the NL expansion pack. We haven't even had any screen shots, or an Open For Business section on the BBS of the Sims2 official site.
Is it possible they're having trouble making it, therefore postponing the release of any info?

Maybe they're too busy making the next party pack.

I would really like to see them offer a 'Sign Shop' where we could make different takes on the already existing signs. Then all our future shops could have unigue names based on the sims that own the shops.

And where's the tatto shop? I want a tattoo parlor!

Experience with Maxis says that the '100 new items' will be some new walls, floors and pictures--just what we need more of. Oh yeah, and some new stupid hats.....

When what we really need are new, comfortable KIDS' beds, (which look like kids' beds), some different playground items as well as that boring swing (what was wrong with the sims1 climbing frame that they couldn't redo that?) and maybe the possibility of sculpture instead of painting.  I'd also like more variety at the expensive end of the range of things, so fortune sims could keep asking for something more expensive, instead of more of the SAME!  Heck, who wants 45 expensive recliners?

Yes, what I most want is more expensive objects, so my fortune sims can be happy. Also, beds with higher energy levels! Why can't I have a bed that's 10 comfort, 10 energy? Weren't there beds like that in Sims 1?

Only hacked ones!  I used to use the ones from Sims Interior Designs and C&CEnterprises.  (And there were some which allowed your dog to sleep on the bed, and when he/she got up in the morning they'd make it!)

Oh, hacked ones, that explains it. Are there any like that for sims 2? Or even nice new meshes based on the four-poster with the curtains, which I don't like using because it's so ... unwieldy looking. Most of the beds I've downloaded from places are 6 comfort, 6 energy, which is fine, I guess, but 8 comfrot, 8 energy would be far better.

Title: Re: New OFB info
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 December 04, 23:41:06
There are one or two, but unless they're based on the expensive bed (the fourposter) then even if they say they're 10/10, it isn't always the case.  some of the best beds I've found for being reasonably priced and high energy are the ones from Sims2Play (the old Supersims of Sims1 days) if you're looking for free downloads.

I actually just went to Sims2Play earlier today, lol. I really like the stuff they have there, but I think it's kind of hard to navigate. I did actually play my game between then and now, but I was trying to sort out a possible conflict with a hack (for some reason, the "try for baby" option was gone for all unmarried or not living together sims, or something ...) so I was just opening the game, trying to see if I had managed to fix something, then closing it and mucking about in my hacks folder again. I think the risky woohoo mod was causing it, which was really too bad. I'm going to go look at the Sims2Play beds in-game now though.

Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 December 05, 00:03:57
Well, as East European sites, go, it's one of the most navigable, and it is much faster than most.  And Shoukeir is probably one of the most talented creators around.

Try the Jazz kitchen too, it's unusual looks good in game and actually goes with the cheap orange fridge and stove!

Oh, and people have reported all kinds of problems with woohoo and romance mods.  You could try the Try for Baby option on a community lot, though.

I use these that override the defaults and give more comfort/energy to the cheapest frames. It's all I use for kids, 'cause they are banned from double beds in my game.  :D

And as far as risky woohoo goes, the inTeenimator has it built in (unless you add the flavor pack that removes it).

Do these ones REALLY change the comfort and energy levels or do they just change the description? The only ones I've ever seen with higher levels just change the description. I remember a thread where Pescado told someone that their change doesn't work and yet people were still thanking them saying their sims got more energy.  ::) Placebo effect I guess.

Post by: MutantBunny on 2005 December 05, 01:41:34
Ah come'on:
it's pretty easy to change the comfort levels, prices, even 'look at value, etc. with SimPE--even I can do that :P and I do it all the time with objects I've DLed. No big deal.

And just listing the 'items' we all want will get us another pack. No thanks, no packs for me: I want the whole thing: I want the ability to build different typs of shops, like a restaurant that serves ONLY high end cusine, and one that serves ONLY pizza, one for Chinese food, a burger only joint. Different stoves for different food types. And how many burger joints, pizza shops, etc. have a Hostess at the door? Why can't we tell the sim to simply sit down and order, not going thru a hostess, and why the hell can't our sims sit down TOGETHER when not dating, to order and eat??

I want to be able to make objects (HELLO! Maxis you promised an object creation program--remember that? where is it?) If we had that in game, we could make any type of shop we wanted to (I want to be able to hang guitars on the walls of my music shop and the shopping sim pull one down and pluck a few and then buy or put it back)

And I want to be able to live over the shop and not have intruders in my home: like with Inge's apartment system, only better and simpler to use please.)

Gimme new animations--like a woohoo bush and table :), new interactions with the kids and teens.

And I want to have parking lots and road side parking 'slots'.

And I want it all to be GLITCH FREE and if I have to wait ten years then I would rather that than have it crappy like NL (which I can't play with the patch because the patch is so crappy--I'm waiting for a patch for the patch...I'm tired fo having to update everything and go thru every thing with each new EP. Good grief, Maxis, it's no wonder I'm so pissed off at you I can't stand to look at an EA symbol on the shelves at Best Buy! I wish I hadn't gotten NL until the next EP is out because then NL would be patched suffciently...most likely.)

*Sigh*

I have mixed feelings about this one. I absolutely love making community lots and look forward to some increased uniqueness about them (i.e. not the same NPC's at each lot, coordinated uniforms, more "activity" going on) but I'm going to be pissed if it's some special setting that can't be incorporated into existing community lots (especially lots that have multiple stores on them). For example, I already have a nice florist's shop thank you very much. I don't want to redo it for the EP, so I'm hoping that won't be necessary (I know a logical person would make everything integratable into existing lots, but Maxis hasn't always impressed me with their "logic"). Well, I guess we'll see. I, too, am surprised we haven't had more info by now but I'm not all that disappointed about that. I always thought they released too much info too soon... I'd prefer about a month in advance-- enough time to create a buzz but not so much that it's torturous (plus, at a month out, everything should be pretty set so there won't be those pesky recriminations about items in screenshots that didn't make it into the final game). Anyway, we'll see about this one. Now, if EP4 is animals, I'll definitely be a happy camper. ~KG

Well, I think there's more to hacking beds than altering comfort levels in SimPE - all I think that does is to change the levels in the object description in the game menu, I don't think it actually makes the sim sleep better, faster or whatever!  I remember downloading a bed from sunnisims (the first one from there) and originally it was supposed to be high comfort etc., but when I put it in my game it was like the cheapest bed.  Anyway, I redownloaded it as it had been updated to allow custom bedding etc., and the comfort levels etc had been changed to the minumum  - as was in fact what they were.

Mokey, the only mod who could get on was Ian, and that's, according to Heather, because he's a teenager and had his own section!  He didn't even notice that no-one else was around!  It was when I tried to get there and couldn't log in that I contacted Heather and she put it right.  There are definitely some nasty, vicious little swine out there somewhere!  (and that's an insult to the pig family!!)

I am not overly impressed with Maxis Logic either or their taste in decor objects etc.. and their genetics that they give their townies is awful. I have yet to see  a Townie dressed decently or with decent genetics .... I realize in RLthat there are less than attractive people that exist. but not the entire human population is in the ugh Category but Maxis chose to make townies that all fall into the mudfence category any way.
Their taste in decor and clothing I think is hideous so I am hoping to see some positive changes in those areas
with the ne OFB EP. but somehow I am doubtful........

I can't see why they couldn't employ a newly graduated fashion design person to design the clothes for them, then they would have something reasonable to turn into pixels!  (But not one who goes for the too way-out stuff only!  I'd personally like to see some better designed "ordinary" clothes!

The walls in sims 1 were SOOO much better - I used to love those that came with Unleashed and House Party!

For starters, you watch a film for 2-3 hours, and that's it!  On the other hand, you may play a sim family for ten times that amount of time, and if the sofa is really repulsive, it gets on your nerves!

Hrm... meh.  :-\ This EP isn't as interesting to me, but then again, I don't really care so much for Business or wanting my sims to run their own. I actually really like the Uni and NL EPs so far. In general, Sims can get tedious, after awhiles, playing the same kinda thing over and over. But, I really liked that Uni because of adding college, and it was a great way for me to add new sims based on my friends, without necessarily having to create their whole families, which in many cases, I don't even know their families all that well. I could introduce sims based on my real life friends in a more realistic manner, rather than having them all be Adults that I'd have to meet after having my sim go through highschool. Regardless, I'll probably still get it, just because I'll want new interactions and objects to play with. Plus, I might actually get bored with the Uni and NL stuff, and then maybe I'll actually make my sims run their own businesses.

Just curious, what Risky Woohoo mod are you using? I've read mixed reports of the older version not working. But I never read a definitive account either way. I took a quick look at the code, and some of the BHAVs looked the same. *shrugs* However, there were some important changes regarding the Quiet Pregnancy mod, and there were some other minor differences. I redid Risky Woohoo, as well as added the option for the Car and the Photo Booth. You can get it from MTS2 (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=108011) [/self-pimp]. Or, if you are using my version, then I'd appreciate it if you reported what possible errors you might be experiencing. I've been using it in my game, with a lot of different mods, mostly Pescado's stuff, TwoJeffs, dizzy, and Crammyboy.

However, I do not download a lot of custom or hacked objects. So, I most likely probably can't guarantee compatibility with those kinds of objects. I could probably take a look at them, but since they are cloned objects, and things about them may have changed, which are beyond my control, it might not be an easy thing to make compatible with. I could try though. *shrugs*

I'll probably get it too, but I would rather, I think, that they didn't add a new area, like a business park, or something, but just adapted the main neighbourhood and Downtown for the purpose.  (And I would really like it if they included the market garden aspect of Unleashed!)

I'm sorta interested in the new EP.

But then, I'm always up for something completely different.  I like NL okay, but it doesn't feel very imaginative to me.  I mean, it's basically Hot Date for TS2.

Title: Re: New OFB info
Post by: BlueSoup on 2005 December 05, 18:40:49
I only had TS1 for all of three months, and during that time I got all the EP's and barely played the game.  I built a lot of houses, and downloaded some hacks, but that was the extent of my gameplay.

Needless to say, pretty much everything in the game is new to me.

Title: Re: New OFB info
Post by: PKTrekGirl on 2005 December 05, 18:49:15
^  Yeah, if you got all of those TS1 EPs, 3 months is not nearly enough time to have explored everything, really, let alone gotten bored with stuff!

Don't get me wrong, I liked HD and I like NL...but I do look forward to the completely new stuff the most.

Title: Re: New OFB info
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 December 05, 20:01:51
Trouble is, though, a lot of the stuff isn't really new, it's a rehash of what went before!  (Or what various people like Inge have already made possible..)  I mean, what about a totally new angle, like sims in space?  They have alien spacehips, astronauts, why not have sims setting out to explore the galaxy?  And a new Explore / Travel aspiration could come out of that!

Title: Re: New OFB info
Post by: idtaminger on 2005 December 05, 20:12:23
New stuff is all good and well, but I'd prefer that they get the basic stuff out of the way first.

Hmm...maybe its too early to tell, but it seems that Maxis is alternating the basic stuff w/ new stuff, hence we got the base game, then uni, which was new, then NL, which was old, then OFB, which is again new. So maybe for next EP we'll get something from the original line again.

I personally am hoping for a newer, better Vacation. Now, I agree that the original Vacation was kinda boring. But I miss the ability to ship my sims off to a nice winter lodge or something, and be able to have them stay for however long I want, w/out the pressures of work or kids or whatnot. I know we can do this in the game right now w/ hacked residential objs, but the issue w/ this is mainly that we can't save, which is annoying if you're playing for a stretch and something goes screwy on you, and you'd lose everything you'd done up to that pt if you exit w/out saving. And remember how Maxis was saying Sims could own vacation houses? They should really reinstate that. I was really looking forward to that feature. :( Extra features for living the leisure life would be swell too, cuz that's how I mostly play my sims. I'm vicariously living my dreams of being fabulously rich and livin' it up. :P

^  Yep.  I have often suggested that a cool EP would be Sims in Space.  As you might imagine from my username, that idea totally appeals to me.

But most times I suggest it, the suggestion doesn't go over very well with other players.

I still think it's a great idea though!

I love the idea of the travel aspiration...  heck, I love the idea of pretty much any new aspiration at all!

although, I've got to admit that I'm quite disappointed with the pleasure aspiration - I find they have stacks of low-point wants, but it seems no real big ones at all, so I find it takes a lot of time and my attention to get them in platinum and keep them there!

and...  there's a cynical part of me that says we'll get a travel aspiration when they re-hash vacation for sims 2, and it could potentially turn out to be about as lame as the pleasure aspiration.

I think blends of the aspirations would work well, too - so we could pick a major and a minor one...  having a sim that is mostly family with a little bit of romance thrown in could create some interesting conflicts.

I'm not overjoyed about the new expansion personally i want PETS and ONLY PETS.  They were so cool in sims 1 i had a cute white tiger kitten wandering around the house.  With the sims 1 i bought every expansion and never really experienced anything called a bug, i didn't even use hacks for that game.  By far Unleashed was the best expansion, Vacation was alot of fun too, i'd take my sims out to vacation in a nice snowy resort.

I bet their going to screw this expansion up some how and introduce lots of new bugs that'll show up almost instantly because they didn't test it properly.  I did read on snootysims that the chemistry set will return which is a plus since it had some wicked fun things in sims 1.  The way their going with expansions though i think their virtually going to repeat half of the expansions they did for sims 1 which is needless to say pretty poor on the developement side they should be able to think of NEW stuff.

I'd have to agree to the person who said the clothing is crap, there's "some" stuff i like but damn these developes have no fashion sense what so ever.  Overall i have no faith in Maxis what so ever.  They toss out crappy expansions and downloadable items that go obsolete the moment the next expansion rolls out that don't get updated.  The sheep praise them and hurl their money at them and half of the community thinks they can charge for a skin that a toddler could make.  If i didn't like the sims franchise i wouldn't even bother with them because its getting to be completely not worth it.

What is the quiet pregnancy mod?

It's a little mod that basically eliminates the little tune that let's you know you conceived.  Your first sign that you are pregnant is usually throwing up.  Combined with the risky Woohoo makes things pretty realistic.

I am not sure who made the mod, just I know it is one of the regulars, as I am picky about which mods I install.  You never know what kind of conflicts you might get installing mods left and center

Everyone keeps asking for pets so I'm certain they will do a pets expansion sooner or later. I bet they save it for when everyone is totally burnt out on the game and then release it to revitalize the game.

I personally didn't find Unleashed all that exciting as really didn't add all that much to me, just some new type of residents roughly equivalent to, or even more limited than, TS2's toddlers.

Oooohhh!  A travel aspiration would rock!

IRL, I would definitely have the travel aspiration.  I've traveled all over the world and it is my passion IRL, so I would totally love to see it in the game.

Unfortunately, TS Vacation was NOT my idea of 'travel'.  That EP was okay for portrayal of a typical American family vacation, perhaps - camping, the beach or the ski lodge (okay...so they are missing Disney  :P ).  But to me, those are vacations - not really travel.  For the EP "Vacation", it was aptly named.  But IMO, if they did a travel aspiration it would have to involve things other than camping and going to the beach.

People who *aspire* to travel IRL are generally not satisfied with going to the same destination all the time.

If they could do it, I'd love it.  But I'm not sure they can do a travel aspiration in the sense I'd like to see it and think it wasn't lame.

Yeah well i generally think pets are cuter than toddlers so...yeah.  Sure they were limited like toddlers nearly but they had some cool interactions.  Your probably right they most likely will release it when the game starts going stale and the sheep are starting to loose interest which is a real shame because with the wants system and the memories and everything now pets would be alot of fun.  The one thing the sims 2 has going for it in quality has gotta be the animations its probably the only thing thats actually working proper as intended.  But i suppose with all the money the sheep throw at them they can afford all the top notch motion capture equipment.

The only thing I saw there that intersted me at all was elevators.  The idea of running a business doesn't interest me at all.

Now if they could do crafts or sculptures at home, like they do paintings, and sell that way, I'd probably buy it.  Still liked the workbench from TS1 for the gnomes or the one from MM for the gargoyles.  Good way to build mechanical.  And the chemistry set was fun!  Never knew what kind of potion to expect.

And I'm a space explorer enthusiast, too.  Would still like to see a space station or lunar colony.  They have the floating animations with the bubble blower that could be used for low gravity.  I'd like geodesic domes for the lunar colony, but with the problems there are with angled walls, I doubt that would ever be realistic.

Unleashed wasn't on my top favorite TS1 EPs either.  After about the first month I found pets painfully annoying.  They were just basically objects that moved that you had to remember to "feed" once in a while.  There really wasn't much else of a point.  The thing I most like about Unleashed was the gardening hehe

I'm sure we'll get pets sooner or later...if they do it I'd rather it be later..much later...after they have put a lot of thought into how they will work and test them thoroughly.  I can only imagine the amount of bugs that could enter the game in that EP (example..I imagine pets would have character files...neighborhood explodes much much quicker)

OFB sounds interesting to me..but lawdy I just hope Maxis does it right.  There's a lot of potential for it but there's also a lot of potential for it to insanely boring as well.

Well, not exactly everyone.

Toddlers can be potty trained faster than a dog and if they do add the furballs, I hope there will be a way to completely avoid them.

Love 'em in RL, but not in TS2.

Since I have been a business owner in the past, I am really looking forward to this EP.  I am probably building it up to be more than it is in reality, but I have high hopes that this will re-invigorate my gameplay.  I am so bored at this point I am playing CSI - solving one crime every night.  I'm getting more sleep, though!

I was thinking of buying another game, but couldn't decide which one, Sylviana (is that correct spelling?) or the complete Neverwinter Nights, since I never played that one.  Any advice?

I hated Unleashed as well. And it was doubly disappointing b/c it was the first EP I had preordered, and I was so excited for it. What a letdown. The only thing it had going for it was the expansion of the neighborhood, whereupon I could populate my hood w/ more sims than was previously possible.

Not too into space, though, but travel would be awesome. One of the major things that made Vacation for TS1 boring was the real lack of flavor of most of the lots. Barring the snowy lots, which I thought were awesome, the woody/beach lots weren't much different from the regular neighborhood lots, which made them SO boring to play. The beach lots had the added annoyance of being a dull sandy color all over, yet with absolutely no view of any body of water. IMO, that's not a beach, that's a DESERT!!!

I'd definitely welcome the addition of more exotic locales, and very versatile tools to really mix 'em up, so we can make tropical rainforests, and high mountains that swirl w/ fog (like some of the mtns in China...so beautiful!), and a lusher beach environment, etc.,etc. There's no way that Maxis will ever be able to make enough diff. vacation spots to satisfy everyone's palettes, or do justice to the diverse beauty of all the diff regions of the world. That's why, in a vacation EP, good tools are key to providing the best experience for all. And w/ the talent of the community, I'm sure they'll be able to churn out more awe-inspiring lots than Maxis could ever manage.

Anyway...lol...that's what I'd love for an EP. If they come out w/ something like this, Maxis would have my money for sure.

I still just want a fully integrated map, more of a combo of Sims City and Sims2. It would just one big map that you zone and build out the various areas; (with templates for other maps etc) none of this going to other neighborhoods which aren't cross functional stuff. No, no way, it would be just like Sims City, laid out and pretty, you could play God mode and shape your terrain, then build your "decorative" downtown and freeways, zone it and then load the zones and build those out. It would be like...uhm Sim State..yeah thats it. Or country...or whatever with integrated neighborhoods that can share zones; you could make them as big or small as you wanted. And when you loaded the game you could see the whole map, all your zones at a glance and maybe some statistical data along with each zone. Then you could add in the business districts, the downtown areas, the universities, the libraries, and the residential zones etc.

I loved Sim City, I didn't get into all the expansions for it, I just loved the core one I had which was Sim City 2000 Special Edition. I loved the disasters and all of it. I was silly happy just playing that without adding anything to it. Simple I know but it provided lots of enjoyment and was a powerful teaching tool for my daughter. How to set up, start small and work your way up into a thriving city etc. Plus it worked well with the laptop and older computer we had. We had a lot of fun with it, and then along came the Sims 1 and she wanted that. I personally didn't like Sims 1 much at all, and we only had it a couple months on the shelf before Sims 2 was bought and loaded. We never had a single expansion or piece of custom content to it, it bored us very quickly. We like Sims2 however, of course it helps that we have great modders that fix the game and help us keep our sanity. The one thing I hated about Sims 1 (besides the horrible graphics) is I could never keep a kid, it always got taken away because I could never get the parents to get up and care for the kid, they would stomp and whine rather than feed the kid and then the social worker would come just about the time they stopped throwing a fit from being woken up. It drove me batty.

Anyway, I have my own ideas obviously on what I would like to see next.

I actually liked Unleashed.  I liked the enlarged neighbourhood and I loved the bus!  And some of the build items were great!  In fact, I'd say, if I had to go back to Sims 1 and could only have one EP, that would be the one I'd pick!

I loved Unleashed. Granted, I was more of a builder for TS1, but pets just seem like such an essential part of a family for me. For example, a young married couple could get a pet instead of a child and it made single "elders" more interesting (crazy cat lady anyone?). Now, I wouldn't be happy with TS1 level pets in TS2 at all. I want the whole kit and caboodle... different size dogs (my big tough guy wants a full size Rottweiler... not a little terrier with black and tan coloring), cats, non-traditional pets (birds, reptiles, ferrets, pocket pets), and farm animals (rideable horses would be AWESOME, as well as cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, goats, etc.). Zoo animals wouldn't be unwelcome either. And no damn strays that wander the neighborhood, strolling into houses at random. I wouldn't mind "foundling" pets (i.e. a cat shows up on your porch, do you adopt it or take it to the humane society) but none of this crap where strays just walk into your house. And, though hacks can overcome it, I don't want animals to count as full-fledged family... if I want 6 kids and a bunch of pets-- deal with it. It'd all fit into the business thing, too... a riding stable, pet breeding, a pet shop, an animal shelter, pet training, pet grooming, ad infitum. Suffice to say, I want pets. Unfortunately, I think my expectations are a bit high and I'm bound to be disappointed. Guess we'll just get through OFB and deal with it's inevitable bugs before getting too worked up about anything else. ~KG

That sounds like more of the same old same old to me!!!!  Deal with the new bugs!  Sort out the new problems it throws up!

I actually wonder if they put all this in deliberately so people will have something to sort out!  At least it keeps your brain from seizing up, but quite a few of us must end up in aspiration failure when they see their beloved neighbourhood falling apart!

Business pack:

can't wait can't wait can't wait!

I really hope they don't screw this up because I'm going to be crushed if the pack is lame.  :-\  I want to be able to scrap careers and promotions completely and run an entire Sim economy.  Guns and butter!  (Econ 101 reference).

Unleashed TS1:

Pets got old fast, especially the pets that roamed the neighborhood.  I was running the Mac version of TS1, and as soon as stray pets came on the lot, they slowed the game down immensely.  Had to keep deleting them as soon as I saw them. I would have uninstalled...except I dug the gardening.  I had whole families living off of gardening, selling the veggies.

HATED the mice, remember the mice?  Oh that was the pits.   >:(  I had to have cats to get rid of the gophers for my gardening families, but then the flies from the dirty dishes would turn into mice.  I ended up chasing them around myself with move_objects on, endlessly.  (You could sell them for money, I seem to remember.)

There was nothing wrong with Unleashed, however, that Pescado, TJ, Crammboy and Inge wouldn't have tidied up in a few weeks under TS2.

Pays to know people.  ;)

Now, the mice and the flies were worth money! And there were only a few strays, and you could just adopt them into your families by getting to a 60+ relationship with them, and unlike sims2 the game did not generate replacements!

I though it worked well, most of my sims then lived in two parent, maybe a gran or grandad, two or three kids and a dog and a cat type families, and my game worked fine!  And I used things like simslices rejuvenator to keep them happy on community lots.  Those were the days.........

Yes, well, I played TS1 in a vacuum.  Other than visiting download sites and consulting the Prima Guide, I never had input from any other players.

Toward the end of my TS1 obsession, I played all of my pet families with the pet permenantly deleted.  They just got on my nerves.  Nearly downloaded that really nasty Simslice object that drained all of the wandering pets motives so they ran away, sucked dry.

 :o

Couldn't do it, but I thought about it.  Long and hard.

If I'd known you then, ZZ, I'll bet I would have found ways to love them!

I like Simulation games, and not just life simulation. This will add an element of business simulation. I really hope they go all out and make it like running your own business like in real life, i.e. bills, inventory, sales, etc, and not a simple watered down version of 1. make object. 2. sell. 3. get cash.

I want all "glories" of running your own store. I want to be able to hire and fire employees to do various jobs. I want financial reports telling me how my income has been over the past month. (this is doubtful as I don't think the game has a sense of time other than a week. so maybe a weekly report) Etc, stuff like that, reports on the most popular object, what's in high demand, all that.

*shrugs*

Ste

I had been using sweatm's risky woohoo -- but it turned out it wasn't that causing it after all, it was some other hack that had snuck into my downloads folder without my knowledge. It took FOREVER to find out what the problem was, because I went through all the hacks in my hacks folder first. It's all fixed now, though! I've also bookmarked your risky woohoo mod for when I get nightlife -- I know I'm like the only simmer in the world who doesn't have it yet.

Well, the only things loose in my Downloads folder are the CEP and the censor removal patch, so anything else has got to be something I didn't put there!  (Only time something does go in there intentionally is when I install a Sims2Pack skin file which for some reason the Clean Installer and the Multi Installer won't open.  then as soon as I've installed it, I retrieve it, copy it to my downloads folder, then put the original into the backup folder with a pic if possible, and in it's own folder with a NAME on so I KNOW what it is, then get rid of the Sims2Pack!)  Since anything that gets downloaded accidentally goes straight into Downloads, i know just where to look!  This is not because I'm a neat and tidy person, this is because I had so much trouble in the past with a Downloads folder full of loose files!

Count me as another person who loved Unleashed.

It was my favorite expansion for TS1, followed closely by Makin' Magic, and then probably Superstar.

I think part of the reason I'm not so into NL is because I couldn't have cared less about Hot Date.

But I do like the vampires and the cars in NL, anyway!

Title: Re: New OFB info
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2005 December 06, 02:29:19
Pity the cars aren't bugged like everything else!!!!!  I had one lot where the poor guy came home from work and the school bus was stuck in front of his driveway, and the game just hung at that point where the buy/build mode is disabled, and there wasn't a thing I could do.  the kid was stuck on a bus and dying, the father was suck in his car and saving.  I couldn't exit the lot without saving from the game, I couldn't get the Windows Manager to do it, and in the end the only thing that worked was switching of the computer!  Why the hell they had to not only use the same portal as the bus but also MOVE the portal I don't know!  And if driveways and cars are not a good idea on small 2x2 lots, why do they put them in the game anyway!  Why not just make it only possible to put in a driveway if your lot is big enough for the bus not to block it!

there were some important changes regarding the Quiet Pregnancy mod,

Wait, do I need to update that one? I've been successfully using it for months and months, and have had no trouble that I can tell.

Well, if you read my post, I point out that it has been slightly changed in NL. I noticed that in the NL version, there is additional code which makes pregnancies affect the Outing Score (I'm not sure if it also affects Dating Scores). I didn't examine the code thoroughly, but I presume that it probably increases/boosts the Outing Score if a pregnancy occurs, since presumably a pregnancy is a happy or "good" event, and all sims seem to enjoy births, as they all want to "Come See Baby" and hold it and pass it around. :P

Essentially, all I did was take the new NL code and make the same exact changes as sweatm, which just disables the chimes. As I mention in my post, using the old version is essentially harmless, but it is incompatible with NL in the sense that it will not affect Outing Scores as redesigned by Maxis. If you don't do Outings or care about that, then it is pretty "safe" to use the old version.

What is the quiet pregnancy mod?

is that where she just lies there until he's done?

 :D  ahahahahahahahaha   :D

Heh. Not exactly... :P It pretty much just disables the pregnancy chimes, so when a sim becomes pregnant, you aren't notified by sound. There is a visual however, in that the "Try for Baby" option disappears from the menu. I may update the mod and add changes so that the "Try for Baby" option is completely disabled. This is something that is very easy to do by modding the BHAVs directly. But I want to look at alternatives. I'm not sure if you can just simply remove those options from the main Sim pie menu without having to mod the BHAVs (probably something to do with Pie Menu Strings and what not). But I need to look into it more.

Mind letting us know what hack it was that caused the problem? That way the rest of us know to avoid it, or kill on site without prejudice. :P

@windy_moon: I played TS1 in a vaccuum as well. Aside from visiting the official EA Sims site to download the occassional "new object" and maybe downloading sims/skins, I rarely added anything new. Heck, I wasn't even aware that there was a huge fanbase/online community. And I definately wasn't aware that there were hacks for the Sims 1, much less bugs. :P I pretty much chalked up anything "bad" happening to just general crappiness. I didn't think there could be anything done, at least not by the commmunity. It took me a whiles (a bit of lurking and reading silently) before I even tried mods for TS2. :P

@ZephyrZodiac: Now that NL allows more organization in folders, I've definately taken to making my Downloads folder a lot more neater. Especially since I've chucked my old 'hoods and started from scratch. I could probably organize it even better, if I ever find the time and patience to do so. :P

However, a minor issue with that is, if you have mods separated in folders, you kind of have to be wary of certain mods that have to load in proper order. I think mods load in alphabetical order, starting from A and ending with Z, so whatever gets loaded last is what takes "precedence" over any other hacks that mod the same BHAVs. I think peeps have also said that folders should load in alphabetical order as well.

And I guess I'm one of the rare people who didn't care much about Unleashed. I barely used it, and I'm not a builder at all. I hate building because I suck at it. :P I've never had an eye for design. I kind of have an idea of what I like, and although I like to think that I can be creative, I just have never been really talented in that aspect. My houses turn out to be all boxy and ugly looking. *sighs*

And the pets, although they were cute, felt just about as useless as children: i.e. money sucking wastes of space, only good for cleaning the house. Except that pets couldn't clean. :P I'd have to say that I liked Superstar the best, and then probably Hot Date. I didn't really get a chance to play Makin' Magic much. By the time my interest renewed, TS2 was on its way, and since then, I've pretty much abandoned TS1.

Truth be told, I didn't even really use the EPs all that much, except probably Superstar, just because I got bored with the jobs they had, it actually gave me a reason for my sims to leave the house. Other than that, I pretty much played my simself with the single-minded goal of makin the most simoleons and movin into the mansion.

I guess my biggest issue is that I never really felt like I was compelled to have my sims leave the house. In this respect, I do like Uni because it's a break from a regular household, and although there are tons of other sims to interact with, I don't necessarily have to be responsible for monitoring all their needs. And I like NL because now I have an actual reason to go Community Lots. Again, more of a reason to leave the house.

I guess Open for Business might be good in that it is sort of a way for us to "follow our sims to work" in a sense? Anyone else remember the trailer for something that was tentively titled Simville? I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine that. ::) It seemed like what TSOnline should have been. I know some people have said that it would be boring to follow sims to work. But I thought it might be interesting, depending on their job. I recall something about having a sim be a firefighter, and actually riding along with the firetruck, and having them put out fires. I thought it would be cool if your sims actually played those roles of the NPC sims, like the firefighter, the maid, the cop, the burglar, etc. Or it would have been great to have actual jobs like doctor or cook, where you actually went to a hospital to work, or a restaurant to... well... cook. I thought it would have been great to have mini-games like in Superstar, where instead of trying to decide how to do commercials or TV shows, you would have to choose the correct options in a surgery or maybe  make a "correct" satisfying meal choosing the proper ingredients.

I don't know if it would be possible to do this with OFB. But it would be a neat idea. I just also hope that there are more LTWs, and that there is more variety in the LTWs as well. So that sims might also actually have Wants to do things that you otherwise might not do (like going to Community Lots, taking certain jobs like those Uni Carrers :P, and whatever new things OFB may offer). One of my issues with the EPs for TS1 is that I never used or visited a lot of the objects and interactions and new settings. I want more of an incentive to actually use or interact with or visit these places rather than just pure boredom. :P

Ahhh... so that's what happened. I didn't realize that was super old and before Hot Date came out. Or at least I forgot. Oh well. It was a cool idea, but a shame it died in production. Oh well. Probably for the best, as I didn't ever really play the SimCity games. It might have got me a bit interested, but I didn't care for the impersonal aspect of those games. I wanted to actually see people.

Sims in Space seems like a cute idea. But I'd first prefer to see some more realistic things, such as more careers, possibly animals/pets (I'd tolerate an Unleashed rehash if it added something where pets were a lot smarter and not just totally useless, money and energy draining wastes, pretty much like babies or toddlers, where you can't do much with them besides feed them until the grow up :P)

I would really prefer an update to Superstar because that's the one EP that I actually did play. I'd love to see/have those minigames back, where your sims could go record commercials, tv shows, or make demos or whatever. I'd also like to see more careers, and more realism, where you could actually have hospitals and zoos and what not. And maybe an entertainment EP, where sims could go see plays or operas, go to ballgames or sporting events, or amusement parks.

I wouldn't mind if they do updates of the older EPs, but they should add some new things as well, to keep it all fresh and interesting.

Ditto!  Things for sims to do at home so they don't have to go and work.  When I had all the EPs in sims1, I spent many happy hours with a single sim in a house doing lots of different things. makings gnomes or gargoyles,  growing crops, making jam, spinning thread, enchanting gnomes, making potions, harvesting mushrooms. training the occasional pet  etc.  I miss all of that.  If you play 1 sim, you spend a lot of time waiting for them to come home.  And they have to go to work or they are broke - no "you inherited 100" phone calls any more.  I think this is the first EP I will actually go and buy!  Uni and NL aren't for me.

couldn't find anything on the australian site - must be retarded, but thanks for the simszone link.

The problem they have at Maxis, of course, is we all want different things!  I used to love how you could breed your pets with Unleashed, and earn money that way!

Honestly, the only reason I'm interested in Open For Business is the robots. Robots! Wants robots! Anything even remotely science fiction themed in future expansion packs would be most excellent. Weirdness is good in any variety, so zombies and vampires and whatnot are good also, but aliens and robots are better. Much better. And sims in space would just rock. I would forgive the inanity of the entire party pack concept for that.

What I'd really like to see in the sims would be tabletop roleplaying games. I think it'd be funny to see sims playing Dungeons and Dragons or something.

Heh, I predicted robots.  :D
That link seems to be gone.

Robots? Where'd you hear there were going to be robots? I loved Servo from ... uh ... whatever expansion pack he was from -- he was FAR better than the maid. Robots are good.

I also think it would be funny to see them playing Dungeons and Dragons. Much better than myshuno, or whatever that strange thing is.

eek aanything is better than Myshuno. I refuse to buy that for my Sims

Myshuno is my fiend. I used to buy it to fulfill expensive game wants...but I didn't necessarily make it easily accessible to them.

My Servo was a fraud. He'd clean a toilet, then stand there buzzing confusedly and changing hats before retiring to his cupboard. Hopefully future robots will be more cooperative.

Sounds like you had an ID conflict somewhere!  Servo was always very cooperative in my game, and great at entertaining visiting kids!

Space travel - love to see it.
OFB - sounds intriguing, let's see if EA/Maxis can manage not to screw it up.
Unleashed - Loved the gardens, the pets were cute, but obnoxious. I kept cats on lots that had gardens, but otherwise...
Superstar - I thought it improved the look of the game.
Makin' Magic - Had lots of fun with that one, probably because I was starting to get bored and it changed a lot of things (had big fun with spells)
Make money at home (from TS1 - gnomes etc.) - this is what I really miss. I want crafty stuff!
Servo - loved him.

Whew, lot of topics in this thread. :P

It's predictable isn't it?

College makes you a zombie.
Nightlife makes you a vampire.
Working...makes makes you a robot.

Wow. I never really put that together and thought about it (go ahead, laugh and point). Is EA/Maxis making social commentary?

I think it's more sarcasm than anything. :P

Hey, the Sims franchise has a long history of satire. Heck, the original game was basically just an irreverent take on suburban living. You give up your time to go to work to get money to buy more stuff to make yourself happy so you can go to work and make more money. The Sims 2, if anything, amplifies that. At its heart, it's satirical exageration.

And with NL installed, your sim would rather go to work than take a much needed shower!

I got the sarcasm (there was a touch of it in mine too), but I think there may be a hint of truth. Or at least commentary.

Robots were mentioned in the survey from the official site that some of us here took part in.

They also mentioned tattoo parlours as one of the possible businesses. And Unified Time, where time progresses as normal on Community lots.

I actually hope they don't try to do unified time, because I'm loving the eternal night of Nightlife, and I'm sure it'll just go buggy the way the College Clock does without More Awesome hacks.

there's a hack to stop them wanting to play it - probably on MTS2.   I use that when they insist on buying it.

There's also a Less Annoying Myshuno at DJS Sims.
