3051  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Have you seen the effects of Aspiration Failure? on: 2005 August 10, 02:49:46
I had very loving social bunnies that kept spontaneously making out and serenading each other.  I loaded a video/storyboard of it on mysimpage over on the bbs.  http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/story_detail.php?asset_id=33820&asset_type=story&user_id=201176
I thought that it was particularly odd, because the sims involved were best friends only, yet their bunnies were crazy about each other.

This is supposedly designed to happen whenever you get the pink and blue social bunnies together.  I heard about it on the BBS when reading the original legacy challenge rules, apparently you get bonus points for getting this to happen.  It's really not hard though, and you don't have to cheat.  I tried it once with Dustin and his son, both of whom were fortune sims, and they were painting together and totally drained on social.  I just had to keep them busy so they wouldn't socialize with each other or anyone else in the house, and soon two different social bunnies appeared.  They were pink and blue, so soon they were kissing and making out and stuff.  It was funny to watch.  I'm not sure if this helped Dustin and his son, because they went to eat dinner together and the bunnies soon left.

Once I used a hack to further reduce Mortimer and Don's relationship and boost Mortimer's body score, and then I had him repeatedly beat up Don for the grief he caused his daughter.  That was fun.
Bah, that's not fun unless you earned it fair and square.
It is so much easier making enemies now with the auto-socializer to repeatedly insult and annoy the other sim.  I was just using that neighborhood for an experiment and wasn't keeping it, so I took a few shortcuts.  Tongue

Once I used a hack to further reduce Mortimer and Don's relationship and boost Mortimer's body score, and then I had him repeatedly beat up Don for the grief he caused his daughter.  That was fun.  That was when I made a copy of Pleasantview in another neighborhood.  In my real Pleasantview, I had Cassandra beat Don up after she caught him cheating.  I have pictures of this, with Don bawling like a baby afterwards.  Sometimes I'll see them gossiping about it.  But to this day, Cassandra will still spin up a fear of Don's death, I don't know why.

About the Social Bunny - do your sims cry when he arrives?

I remember the Sad Clown from TS1, which made all the sims cry and be sad.

In TS2 I never gave my sims to have aspiration failure. I saw once Cassandra, after being left at the altar, playing with some doll, and a shrink came to give her a treatment - twice. But I left the house without saving, thinking how to prevent this situation (I found a good solution for this).
No, they don't cry.  They either go about their business doing what you've directed them to do, and the bunny will sit or stand quietly amusing himself.  Your sim may choose to interact with the bunny or you can direct him to do any of several interactions.  The bunny leaves by himself once the sim's social is repaired.  It's funny when the bunny comes crashing out of the sky though, although the noise startled me a couple of times.  It's funny too that the other sims cannot see the bunny, so when they see the sim interacting with someone who isn't there, they make the "You're Crazy" sign at him when they pass by.

With Cassandra, the solution for me was either to get her relationship high enough with Don that he would not leave her at the altar, or to raise her aspiration to platinum so that his rejection would not send her into aspirational failure.  It would have to be pretty high because being left at the altar carries a huge aspiration hit.  Or ignore the scenario altogether.  I didn't want her to marry him anyway.  She deserved better than him.  My Cassandra married a custom Sim I made and had lots of babies.  She is very pretty in my opinion once you get rid of those hideous ponytails and glasses and put on some makeup.

So if I can't get the sim someone to call, I just have them relax on the bed and daydream.  It helps social.

I didn't know that.  That's strange.

I think I've seen them all at least once, except for Professor Von Ball.  It's funny but I've never had any of my Knowledge Sims go into aspirational failure.  Once I saw the Paper Stick Buddy because my popularity sim caught her lover cheating on her and lost him as a best friend.  The others I've seen a little bit more frequently, but none lately.  I guess it's a combination my learning how to achieve wants better and the Uni LTW helps too.  I am not one that likes torturing Sims.  Roll Eyes
3056  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Have you seen the effects of Aspiration Failure? on: 2005 August 06, 23:17:40
As far as I know, the only ones who can have a fear of the Social Bunny are Popularity Sims.  I'm not sure about Romance.  But for Knowledge Sims and the others, they might complain that their social is bottomed out, but they don't lose aspirational points by fearing the Social Bunny.

Jack Thompson pees with his pants on, too.

He looks like a sim guy when he showers too!!!  Shocked

And rainbow, I know JT is a schmuck.  I disable the censor all the time as well.  In fact, the cheat is in my cheat.startup file or whatever.

Yeah, I figured you knew that.  I saw your post about him way back when the whole thing started.  I just couldn't resist commenting and giving my two simoleans. Cheesy

Toggle LTW also lets you turn off permanent platinum if you decide the game is no longer challenging with it.
3060  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What the...?? on: 2005 August 03, 03:12:18
Who gives a damn what Jack Thompson thinks.  Angry  The blur is one of the first things I had to get rid of when I got the game.  I find the blur very distracting and slows things down.  I don't get any perverse pleasure from watching "barbie doll" sims, but I'd rather see them au naturel than with some stupid blur like on TV shows where they are trying to conceal someone's identity.  Covering something up only makes people more curious to know what is being concealed.

I downloaded a file from MTS2 like the ones you are talking about.  It is basically the same as putting the cheat command in your startup cheat file.  I now have that one as well as the debug cheat and the cheat for more sims at a party, especilally since these last two have to be entered from the neighborhood, and I always forget.  (Some functions with the debug cheat don't work unless you exit the lot and re-enter.)

One thing I don't understand is why they blur the baby on the potty?  You can't see anything, and you can see babies on their potties anywhere.  They even show naked babies on TV!  So what's the big deal about seeing a baby getting their diaper changed.  I just love the toddlers.  One of the cutest things in the game is the way the toddlers fuss about being put on the changing table, and I adore the way they pat the potty while they are on it.  But I assume these things wouldn't even be viewable with that danged blur.  I didn't realize it was blurred until I saw a picture in the Prima Guide where the baby on the potty was blurred.  I have had the censor blur removed almost since day one, and I hadn't played toddlers yet then.
3061  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Gahk! Is my game screwed? on: 2005 July 29, 23:10:59
The quickest way to see if it's a hack is to move your entire Downloads folder to a different location on your drive, totally outside of the Sims folder, and see if you still have problems.  If not, then start adding back your hacks a few at a time until you find which set caused the problem.  Then you can narrow it down to which of those it is.  I know it's time consuming, but perhaps someone would be able to identify a certain type of hack.
3062  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Censorship again! on: 2005 July 29, 21:53:06
In The Sims 1, you could download "patches" from game sites for your sims.exe file that would disable the blur.  I don't know if a cheat existed in Sims1, but these patches also would work as a "No CD" patch so you didn't have to have the game CD in your drive to play it.  The disadvantage of this was if Maxis decided to release an official patch, you'd have to restore your original exe (assuming you were smart and backed it up before replacing it), then you'd have to find an updated fixed exe.  The cheat is much easier to use because it doesn't require modifying the core game and you don't have to worry about updates screwing it up.  You can put it in your cheats startup file and forget it.
3063  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: No Secret Society Respawning on: 2005 July 27, 01:53:11
Call in Sick guy?  Now that's interesting, because I've never noticed one of these.  Mine rarely call in sick because even when they are sick, they're told they're not.  The only time I noticed anyone's face was when one of my Sims in the Science career called in sick and the person who answered his call (telling him he didn't sound sick when he had just been coughing his guts out) was in fact Cassandra Goth.  As I recall, at the time she was in a lower position in that career than he was, but I can't remember for sure.

That's interesting.  I've never had any of my sims be turned down for calling in sick, even when they weren't.  Perhaps your sim's job performance wasn't high enough.
3064  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Factoids and Statistics on Skill Gaining on: 2005 July 26, 23:26:50
The Smart Milking will stick, setting SemiAttribute 0x1C to 200, meaning your sim has a +200% learning rate (300%). This is erased if you wear a thinking cap or are reinstanced (such as by deletion or moving). It is cumulative with the +100% boost for an instructor on a career object.

Where is this SemiAttribute stored?  Can it be changed manually?

JM, can you put Test IQ on the lot debugger so we don't have to keep the baby controller around to check this?  That would be great.  It was so fascinating once I found out what this does.  I was running an experiment with several toddlers and all of them grew up "smart" but one lost his for some reason.  He is way behind the others in his skills, of course.  I wondered if the "Toddler skill" memory token in SimPE had anything to do with this, but they all had them.  Funny that it was an invisible memory belonging to Mortimer Goth.  I tried copying the info from one of the other children who was still "smart" and put it in his token, but it didn't change anything and I put his original info back.  Do you know where this information is stored, and if there is a way to put it into a sim who has lost his smartness?  I was forced to reset another child, so she lost her smartness also.  It's such a drag to skill now that they are at 100 and the others are still at 300, and they rack up skill points like crazy.  I also thought it was interesting that when being taught to study, their IQ jumps to 400, but drops back to whatever it was before after the session is over.  I thought this might have been what caused one to lose their IQ, but it didn't happen on the others.

Eh, you'd be surprised how quickly Power Idle can correct that kind of slump.

Actually, it did, he went to the bathroom and took care of two needs, ate, comfort was dealt with, kicking the flamingo took no time at all, and then he hit the espresso machine.  I'm not sure if it was in that order, but you're right, it didn't take very long and life was back to, er, normal.
3070  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Factoids and Statistics on Skill Gaining on: 2005 July 23, 03:53:21
I have become more of a fan of freewill off since Power Idle, even in large families, because I don't have to worry about having some one eat, potty, or sleep, to avoid mishaps.  That's why I never played with it off before, and forgot it was even an option.  But when cooking skill maxed out, I always had to watch them cook because all they wanted to cook was Lobster thermidor, and even though they have a 20% failure rate with it, that wasn't even the main concern.  The problem is that they would never fail to put the lobster in the oven and wander off to use the toilet or tell someone a joke, or worse, going off to work, thus leaving the lobster to go up in flames.  Fortunately I put smoke alarms in all my new homes as a necessity because although you'd really think a max skill Sim would not start fires, they are almost as bad as a 0-skill Sim when left to their own devices.  Roll Eyes At least with macrotastics, they will only cook pork chops, and as boring as that is, it is satisfying and rarely burns, especially with PI to make sure they stay focused.  I guess you could say PI is like giving my sims Adderall so they can focus.  It's not perfect, but it's better than the alternative.

I have had a couple of problems though with pregnant sims using Power Idle.  I am assuming this is because their needs drop so much faster.  I had a pregnant sim die because PI didn't kick in and tell her to eat until it was almost too late.  She was trying to caffeinate, but her bladder was falling too fast to make up for the energy gained from the espresso.  Her husband could not plead with the grim reaper because she fell out in the bathroom, and he couldn't get on the other side of her where Grim was.  So I didn't save that one.  Another time, her husband woke up in the morning starving (I was using JM's sleep clock), and he ran downstairs to fix something to eat.  But he died before he could cook the food and get it to the table.  If I were that hungry, I think I'd eat straight out of the pan without worrying about getting it to the table on a plate.  Probably an instant meal would have been better, then cook a meal.  Fortunately this time she was able to plead with the grim reaper to save his life.  The problem was that when he was ressurected, all his needs were at half way so he had to spend the rest of the day getting his needs back up, when before everything was green except for hunger, and a good meal would have fixed that.
3071  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hypnotic memory implantation on: 2005 July 21, 22:20:47
It seems that Sims talk more about their most recent memories, so if a sim recently burnt food, I guess that would be foremost to them rather than somebody cheating last week.
3072  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hypnotic memory implantation on: 2005 July 21, 03:08:33
Usually the townies are witness to these events.  For instance, my two sims are making out for the first time on the front lawn, and a townie walks by.  When the townie witnesses this event, he receives an invisible memory of "made out with X for the first time."  Later on, he might pass this on to another Sim in conversation or as gossip.  Other sims receive memories like this, not just townies.  I don't know how many memories I've seen where a sim gets an A+ and then a memory of his mother having the memory of his A+, in addition to the memory that his sister got an A+ and his mother's memory of his sister getting an A+.  Gah!!!  I am so happy for the no A+ memory spam.  Obviously, this was all before I got that mod.  Cheating is an especially popular memory that gets spread around, as well as someone peeing at a party.

I've seen several instances where a sim will meet another sim, and then they will have memories that were passed to them from the other sim.  Like when my sim met Brandi Broke, she received memories from her of Brandi potty training Beau and about Skip dying.
3073  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Yoga and The Skillinator - Broken on: 2005 July 20, 10:18:22
I must report that Yoga does not work on the Skillinator.  I don't know if this is related to the use of the Thinking Cap, but my sim cannot gain Body using this.  I tried this on a dorm lot and then when she graduated and moved back home with the same results.  This is what happens:  She puts on the thinking cap and dons exercise gear, all normal.  She goes to the mailbox and starts as the Skill bar goes up over her head.  As she bends over, her plumbob falls downward as the skill bar disappears.  I decided to let the game run by itself for a while to see if she ever got the point, and she never did.  She started with 7 body and still had 7 body when I checked back several Sim hours later.  It appeared that she had a nearly full bar before it disappeared, about 3/4 of the way full.  I seem to remember someone on VS mentioning this problem, but I don't remember what was said about it, and I can't check now of course because the thread is gone.

Power Idle isn't about doing something useful. Power Idle is about keeping green and out of your hair while waiting for orders. If you want them to do something USEFUL, tell them to Skillinate. Smiley

What's left to do after they've maxed out all their skills?  Undecided

Does boolprop testingcheats have anything to do with this?  I remember an option when shift-clicking your sim like show paths or something.  I didn't think it did anything though.
