Title: The Bork Pool for L&P Sims2 'Apartment Life/Fill Up With All The Odds & Ends'EP8
Post by: GayJohnScarritt on 2008 June 08, 00:11:03
With Lorelei's kind permission (okay, okay, she threatened to kill off my simself with every death imaginable), i hereby present the Bork Pool for Apartment Life:

Do you think EAxis has learned it's lesson?  They'll go over the code with a fine-tooth comb?  Hire 100 testers to combine this EP with every computer system and EP/SP in existence?
No???   I'm shocked ye have such little faith.  If that's how you feel, then get out your crystal balls (or dust off the last bork pool) and present your guesses here.

Edit:  to fix TWO stoopid mistakes

"Woohoo in closet" accidentally allows "woohoo in wardrobe/dresser."  A patch is released to correct this which disallows all interaction with dressers.

While the Murphy bed is folded up, sims drops the newspaper/books where the bed is supposed to fold down, resulting in a bed unable to be used.

Some, or most of the new content, will be missing past-EP interactions. If there are any new stereos, they will not allow Freetime tinkering, giving us evidence once and for all that they leach code from the community.

Spell effects will rely on pixel shading, and thus be invisible to a good 50% of the Simming population.

Or sims will autonomously play kicky bag in the space.  When you cancel the action it will leave stuck kicky bags there so that the bed can't be used.

I am going to guess that there will be a small chance that the bed can randomly fall open, killing any emo diary-writing sims, and canceling out the usefulness of having a space-saving bed.

Also, I like the title of this thread. Because when I think "apartments," I think "witches." ??

Actually, even FreeTime vintage stereo cannot be tinkered (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,11513.msg329372.html#msg329372), because EAxis disallowed Tinkering for all stereos except for 2 base game stereos. I've done a test with the modified Guardian BHAV of Tinkering interaction, and found out that Sims are perfectly able to Tinker FT vintage stereo. Lazy bastards.

Animations will be screw'd up for spiral stairs. Sims will walk up as normal, only to hit the ceiling or pass through it as they ascend. EA realizes their mistake forcing them to steal code from CC creators to fix their own stairs.

Tinkering of broken Murphy bed will result in 50% chance of bed falling on and killing tinkering Sim. (Actually, that would be pretty cool)

That would be cool, but I'm sure they'd screw up the stats on that and it would either be an impossibly low percentage, or else a 100% chance.

"More Romantic Than You" bed will accidentally be enabled for use by children.  EA will panic and fix this in a patch, rendering it impossible for anyone to use it at all, meaning that it has become totally pointless.

Children will get stuck when being spun around by an adult - and remain their suspended in animation.

New Belladonna families will be borked and any new children born to them will be related to the Landlord NPC.

I'm guessing the whole apartment system will be broken, resulting in missing families and furniture being deleted (seriously, why do they need to remove all the furniture except fridges/stoves/etc from an apartment when a family moves in?), issues with new/old fridges because of this, sims disappearing into npc owned apartments never to be seen again (ie. dorm fun coma syndrome), transparent sims ala dorm, stuck spell effects and reaction emitters, broken rain textures (there was some screenshot of the evil witches secret lot, the one with the spikes, the rain texture was missing and corrupt), landlords never leave/never show up,"lottery" rent, and landlord doesn't repair.

NPCs will constantly start kitchen fires and the whole building will be engulfed in flames.  Property destruction and motive failure for all!  This will usually happen as the NPCs are fixing breakfast, so your sims will be too stinky and miserable to catch their carpool or school bus.  The adults will lose their jobs and the kids will be repossessed by the social worker.

Heh! If anyone should know, it's Lord Darcy!  ;)

If they give us any new wall options, such as round walls, the ability for Sims to use anything against said walls will be destroyed, thus rendering them dead space and barely usable.

If you befriend the landlord and move him in or marry him, the game won't generate a new one.  The lot will fall into disorder.  The patch will make it impossible to have social interactions with landlords.

When a sim in an apartment invites someone over, the neighbors will come out of their apartments, chat with your guest, and steal them away to their own pads... never to be seen again. This will happen every time.

Sims will randomly use the new 'social group' greetings on other sims. All sims will become infuriated with every other sim as a result. Eventually J M Pescado will release "antigroupactions".

The swimming pool slide will no longer work and children will not gain fun from using the new playground objects. However, children will obsessively use the playground objects whilst refusing to eat, sleep or do homework until the Social Worker forcibly removes them from the lot.

Having a social group greeting for a social group your sim is not in be used on them changes their social group, even when they are not the family in play.

Use of a witch broom on any lot stops erases all portals. Sims swimming in the ocean at the time will become stuck. Visitors will be unable to leave. The carpool or services will not arrive.

The new baby toys will have impossibly long animation loops. It will take approximately three sim hours to be able to pick a baby up from playing with its toy.

Post by: talysman on 2008 June 09, 19:44:13
The toddler spring toy will cause toddlers to burst into flames.

Apartment neighbors will have dormie invulnerability and will hog all the musical instruments (if accessible) or stand outside your playable's apartment door all day (if not accessible.) nouniinvulnerability will be updated to apply to apartment neighbors as well, but the side effect will be haunted apartments.

Since the radiator and air conditioning are Seasons-compatible, implying Apartments is built on Seasons, all Maxis BV/Freetime objects fixed by modders will be re-broken and need to be re-fixed.

The new lap dog will be broken. There will be at least four varieties, and Sims want slots will be clogged with wants to purchase every variety. Lap dogs won't have the same interactions as ordinary dogs, won't be recognized as a "dog" by real dogs, won't be trainable in the same way. Maximum number of pets in a household will be broken, and simultaneous births by a lap dog and a real dog will cause the game to crash.

Playground equipment will conduct lightning. Possibly not a bug, depending on your viewpoint, but EAxis will be horrified and will fix it in the patch, preventing lightning storms when children are using playground equipment.

The woohoo in closet interaction will cause the closet only to work for closet woohoo, or not at all.
When the apartment townies(apartmenties? menties? parties?) stay past 7:00, they will sleep in your apartment, and vice versa if you are in their apartment.

I was thinking it would be appropriate if they upped the odds of robbery on apartment lots, since I hardly ever have them and I would LIKE more bad memories, dammit.  But then I thought of the possible problems with that: they bork the odds like they did with the twins/cheesecake thing and the robber comes every night, or the robber tries to take things from neighboring apartments but gets stuck there, or if you have an alarm installed the landlord comes instead of the police, to name a few.  Probably won't happen though.

Broomstick animations will have funky interactions with sims and objects, resulting in a great deal of random impalement. Non-witches will walk around with broomsticks through their chests, while flying witches will end up getting stuck through doors and trees.

Somehow, SecuROM mistakes the original Sims 2 game as emulation software, and won't let Apartment Life run unless the very program that allows it to be used is removed.

The good news is that, by some miracle, Apartment Life finally fixes the 'Make Cakes' bug from Makin' Magic.

Doesn't that sound... err... logical? What would be cool is if a normal sim tried to use the cauldron and it blew up in their face or something! And I guess the magical lots will only be accessible via broom so...

Updated stuff pack objects included in Overrides.package will take precedence over anything in Downloads folder. Provided EAxis managed to find their ass with both hands in the second FT patch, and have the minimum sense to carry updated Overrides.package forward AL, my fix will no longer be needed.

Of course, AL Overrides will have to include IKEA TV and bookcase as well, as it's a given that they will miss FT functions like K&B objects.

You forgot about Knowledge Sims wanting to be turned into a toad.  ::)  If they ever get this want realized, they will wind up completely borked.  The lot will quit at the very least, or maybe you'll even be expelled from the game with one of those error messages that non-awesome types like myself cannot understand at all.  When you reload the lot, the game will be unable to load the Toadsim (!) and you will get an adult acting like a baby, or else the Sim in question will wind up in Sim Limbo and require extreme measures to make reappear.

It scares me that writing such prose is so easy, and the results sound so plausible.

I suspect you will be unable to turn a townie or NPC into a toad; you will only be able to toadify lot dwellers.

In addition, if you try to mkae a witch a landlord, she will sprout a pencil moustache and goatee and then kick everyone out with a pointed finrger, yelling the simish equivilent of 'OUT! Out in the cold, I say! *cackle*'

Oh, there's another potential bug! Despite the fact that they liley will intend pregnant sims to not be able to be toadified, they will anyways and will give birth to a human baby as the small reptile. This will bugger up the family tree and cause the game to think that a random NPC or remote controlled car is the father of the child.

We have only scratched the surface in our guessing to what degree schoolchildren (whether children or teens) in apartment families will be borked.  My guess is that playable apartment family schoolchildren that come with the game, CAS schoolchildren moved into apartments, and school-age spawn unfortunate enough to be born to a couple already living in an apartment, will all be borked in subtly different ways.

One problem all spawn share will have to do with The One Desk.  If every apartment in the complex has a desk, which is The One Desk?  We will never be so lucky as to have the game count the desk in our Sim family's apartment as The One Desk, especially if they live on an upper floor.  Schoolchildren will enter other families' apartments to deposit their homework, unless doors are lockable as in UNI (which they almost certainly will be).  In that case, spawn will stamp their feet and try another apartment.  This action will not be cancellable, causing all spawn to go into fun and/or bladder failure, and teens to lose their jobs from missing work too many times.

If the poor schoolkid actually succeeds in depositing his homework in a foreign apartment, it will become stuck and/or invisible.  Being repeatedly unable to do his homework will cause him to flunk in school.  Attempting to take the child away, the social worker gets stuck in the foreign apartment, where the schoolkid will also sleep from then on unless you prevent him.

On the bright side (?), JMP will certainly get a lot of interesting projects as a result.  We will be depending on him like never before, because the InSimenator will be broken like never before.

This entire thread is what I like to call "too true to be good."  ::)

There's been some fantastic guesses so far (and even a couple that were downright eerie), but i feel it's time for me to give out my guess.
AL will be (is suppose to anyway) adding a brand new pool table.  EAxis will completely forget (and please, no-one mention this to EAxis) that they already have a pool table from a previous EP (University).
This will bork completely all pool table interactions.  After the first patch comes out, everyone will be able to play pool, but EAxis once again doesn't check the patch IN game and all pool cues turn into broomsticks (and all witches broomsticks turn into pool cues).

This is a glitch they forgot to include when they added the new pool table in FT.  I suppose they might manage to "fix" this oversight in the L&P and really stuff it up in a "2 for 1" deal.  "We forgot to bork this in the last EP, so we're going to make damn sure we really bork it this time"

And while we're on the subject of recycling old borkenness (pianos, primp) - maids and fish tanks, anyone?

And while we're on the subject of recycling old borkenness (pianos, primp) - maids and fish tanks, anyone?
I'll get maids, someone more knowledgeable about fish tanks can do them.  I can only think of one time I've put a fish tank in one of my Sim's homes.

Not that maids have ever worked really well, even at their best, but in a situation like this -- well, multiply any and all problems you see your maids deal with in UNI by about 100.  The best-case scenario is that the maid comes as scheduled, cleans about three other apartments OTHER THAN the one belonging to your Sim, charges you, and leaves.

If you have the InSimenator, any hack having to do with temperature control, certain (but not all) of Inge's clothes change doors,* or the "Bon Voyage" EP, the maid will not be able to stop cleaning until he or she suffers at least two different needs failures.  Comically, when finally done, he/she will pay you instead of the other way around.

But the real fun begins if you succeed in getting any of your Sims to diddle the maid, a la Daniel Pleasant or Don Lothario.  Afterwards, one of the two Sims involved will turn into a remote-controlled car, and the other into a toad.  Horrified, EA issues a patch, which disables maids entirely, and causes any Sim playing a piano to turn into a toad.

__sigh__  I love this game.  ;D

*No disrespect intended to Inge as I do use a few of her doors, non-Awesome though they may be.  ;)

I was actually referring to the glitch where maids repeatedly clean the fish tank until it's 5pm when they go home - leaving the rest of the house in a mess.

Another old glitch that must be due to resurface is to do with maids, coffee cups & dishwashers.  I don't think I've seen that one since the base game.

Ah.  My bad then.  I am not familiar with either of the glitches of which you speak, seeing as I use neither fish tanks nor coffee in my game.  Coffee doesn't give me the shakes, so why should it do so to my Sims?  :)

I am right though, am I not, that the remote-controlled car is a Sim?  Not that I'm terribly computer-savvy, but who on earth thinks up this stuff, and what are they on, anyway?...  :P

Yup, the remote-controlled car, and the helicopter that came with FT, and all the robots from OFB are treated as NPC sims in the game.  That's why you'll see very outgoing sims making the greeting animation to the sentrybot (for example) as they walk into the house.

I once had a hydrobot that spoke in a male sim voice. Once I found the source of the voice (there were no sims home at the time which was confusing) I saw that it was complaining very loudly about a staircase that it couldn't get past. I had a good laugh about that, but I only ever place hydrobots on lots where I am sure that they cannot get into the house.  :D

I can deal with OFB servos being Sims, since they are at least humanoid.  But remote-controlled cars and helicopters is another thing.  I wonder whether Amin Sims and his other Leo buddies would therefore greet a remote-controlled car?...

I must say I don't even know what hydrobots are -- they must come with BV or some other EP that I don't have installed right now.

I will add, though, that reading the "Bork Pool" thread for FT gives me some hope, as it was just as hilarious as this thread, only I have had almost no problems with FT.  I would like to hope that therefore AL won't be as bad as we fear, but I don't think I dare.  ;)

Things which are mobile are implemented as invisible "sims". This internal implementation would not even be noticeable if not for the fact that it is occasionally botched.

If you turn a townie or an NPC into a toad, they will be added to your family when cured.  :P

Yeagods, this one is dead on. In related news, toadifying an NPC will be akin to vamping Crumplebottom and asplode your hood. In an effort to prevent this situation, a patch will re-disable phoning NPCs and/or spawn infinite new NPCs to replace those toadified.

And while we're on the subject of recycling old borkenness (pianos, primp) - maids and fish tanks, anyone?

I hadn't had problems with maids getting stuck cleaning the tanks for a while, but I don't use the tanks very often. Last time I did, though, a Macro/Cleaning teen got stuck in the tank loop. I'd have left him in it if it were helping him gain the skill point he Wanted, but it was a sadly inefficient skill-builder.

I don't think EAxis see that as borkenness, they see that as a deliberate design feature.

Your female sims in underwear/sports hair default to long hair?  Lucky you.  Most of mine default to that fugly meg hair.

For Petz owners with a critter present on the lot, the butler will be stuck in a neverending "feed pets" loop. When said critter dies, the butler will disappear from the lot and never come back. You'll be unable to hire a new butler, as the game thinks that you already have one (Same goes for Seasons owners and garden plots, where the butler will be obsessed with watering plants and disappear if plots are removed).
If you have both EPs plus critter plus garden plots, the butler will freeze forever because pets care and gardening will have the same priority and the "is [action] required/possible" check will be broken. Also, if he tries to do an action that isn't possible (e.g. tend garden plot when there are no weeds), the game will crash.

Apartment Life will be horribly incompatible with the Sims 2 Store, and anyone who actually paid for the stuff in there and got it from EA will have to delete their neighborhoods and reinstall and/or choose between the crap they paid for and the next expansion. People who pirated the downloads will be unaffected.

Ah, the "Kitchen Sink" EP.

I predict they will add more neighbourhoods that we don't need with more useless families that we don't need. This is to give us something to do, i.e. whine while we wait for those more awesome than us to provide us with clean and/or empty templates.

However, this might be a gimme and therefore disqualified as a prediction.

How about this? Graduating Sims have to go on job interviews and move to the above-mentioned new neighbourhood in order to take the job, and they have to come up with first and last and a security deposit out of their first paycheck.

That might be too much like RL. Never mind...

How about this? In order to rush this out, they pull programmers from other projects (Spore/Sims3) that used completely diffrent .package formats. Not realizing that these are in fact diffrent, AL now is completely unable to recognize any Custom content, or even it's own god damn items. Completely and utterly breaking the game.

Yay, I'm just a ball of sunshine, huh?

Well put, AuKestrel! To add my two cents in... EAxis mistakenly codes the nannies to be useful (ie, they don't try to set your sim's house on fire). Realizing this, they will immediately release a patch that fixes this. The patch will bork the cribs so that when used, the baby sim will disappear completely, both from the family panel and the lot. Any attempts to bring them back will be futile.

Also... it'd be kind of cool if somehow the bottles that get pulled from the fridge are borked... you know, so instead of regular green milk it becomes smart milk...?  ;D

As I had this bug semi-recently (bad hack combo) in Uni, I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar in AL.

Townies in other apartments will claim rooms but will announce that they are leaving at 2AM. They will actually leave and unclaim rooms. At 4AM, they will return and reclaim rooms, but you will not get the same townies. Imagine the acres of notification dialog in a heavily-populated building.

AL apartment specific build tools will be 0.01% more difficult to use than regular build tools, and this will result in sheeples whining all over the internet for HALP!

'Cept that's more borked idiots than borked game.

AL apartment specific build tools will conflict with dorm specific build tools and can't (technically) be used on the same lot. If you do try to use them together on a dorm lot, dormies will never move in, phones will not work on the lot, bills will never be delivered, the roof will leak no matter what you do, the cook will freeze solid at the stove providing you with a nice Chef Statue for the front lawn, and your YA playables will go to class and disappear from the game forever.

If you mix use of the build tools in your shiny new AL lot, Grim or Crumplebutt, secretly programmed by EA to punish you some more, will immediately move in and borke the whole damned game.

But someone will invent a hack that allows dorm tools and apartment tools to be used on the same lot and there will be happiness among serious players, while the sheeple scream 'YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!!!!11!!!!111one!!!'

No features of apartments will in any way resemble the same features in dorms. However, the underlying building classification will be identical. Therefore, dorm hacks will break apartments, and apartment hacks will break dorms. Despite complaints, EA will claim that apartments work exactly like dorms.

This will not be the last EP. Future EPs will entirely ignore the new features, often leading them to become broken.

They will do a "Fan stuff" pack with fan-made creations. People will be excited and herald this as a new high for EA. It will be full of the shittiest things off TSR. People will cry. EA will count its cash idly.

Soooo... does the stuck object remover work on walls? According to the Prima Guide preview, neighbor noise is generated through an invisible object on the wall (although it spews visual sound stuffs, so maybe not so invisible) that is remedied by either banging on the wall or letting the noise expire. So, the basic gist of things... every apartment room that is adjacent to another apartment will have a crapped out environment score within a day from the thousands of invisible stuck sound emitter thingies. Oh the joy.

I'm guessing the whole apartment system will be broken, resulting in missing families and furniture being deleted (seriously, why do they need to remove all the furniture except fridges/stoves/etc from an apartment when a family moves in?)
So NPC Social Group townies aren't living in empty apartments, but I can just see random furniture appearing out of nowhere, which cannot be removed even by using "moveobjects on" as the game considers the objects to not "be there". I also see the "Social Group townies rule" not working, and you'll find you end up living next to either Goopy, a nanny or NPC *Remote Control Car.

Sims of all ages, including toddlers, will receive wants to move out of their houses and into apartments in droves. Some sims will also get a LTW to "Move into 200 Apartments" and to "WooHoo 20 Landlords", despite only 3 existing at any one time, that's why the endless NPC spawning will be back.

New playground equipment will deplete hunger at a vast rate, prompting the immediate appearance of the Social Worker. Freezing time will cause the simulation to become fubar, and only freeze magical sims. The Butler will become obsessed with the lap dog, and even kidnap him, never to be seen again. New children in Belladonna Cove will have the lap dog as their father on the family tree. Sims passing the mirror of the new built in wardrobe will find they have a reflection of another sim, including NPCs such as the Grim Reaper and Ideal Plantsim. New end table will take up 4 tiles of space instead of 1. Radiators will catch fire on a regular basis, and air conditioning will also cause nearby sims to catch fire as well. Sims will gain fun and hygine from the "Sound" objects on apartment walls.

I like the "neighbor noise" thing. As of ALp0, the sims will be totally overreacting to it, which will lead to neighborhood feuds. Which, of course, would be hilarious, so EAxis will inevitably fix it with the first patch.

Playable witch Sims in a multi-playable-family apartment will, when one of the other families is loaded, be capable of autonomously casting their entire range of spells. All the Cast Spell interactions will advertise higher than any other interaction in the game, as is the trend with new EPs. Apartments with evil witches will, therefore, burn down in less than a day thanks to fireball spam.
Witches encountered on community lots will also cast their spells autonomously, resulting in Mrs. Crumplebottom becoming a toad and the game becoming unplayable.
The iconic witch NPC characters will harass you with telephone spam every time you perform a witch-related action.
Lap dogs will become stuck in laps. Sims holding lap dogs will not be able to leave their chairs, ever again.
"Witches" will be added as a turn on / turn off. The "AL is offensive to Wiccans" thread will immediately revive.
All new social interactions will invoke crush / love and jealousy reactions, with the exception of romantic interactions.
If an adult is swinging a child and becomes queuestomped, the child will disappear, become unselectable, and lose all autonomy. The Social Worker will come a few hours later to remove all household children because of 'neglect.'

New head witch will be randomly chosen by hood, resulting in some people having toddlers, pets, and special npcs as their head witch. If the remote control car is chosen in a hood the game will crash on every load until removal of that hood, which can not be saved. Head witch Toddlers and pets will crash any lot that they are on\try to enter. Crumplebottom with act as her usual crabby self anytime you enter the lot, any head witch type actions that she tries to preform will result in a continuous jump out of the actions. Grim would float around for a few minutes and then fade away, he would have been forced into witch gear, because of that you would have a floating outfit with no sim inside, he would turn up at deaths wearing this outfit or not at all. Seasons hidden Plant sim will actually be semi normal but now all spawned plant babies are borked and result in crashing at pregnancy or will not have the correct needs and badges for a plant baby. Pollination techs as a witch will work out  normally until the polli-tech is chosen as sperm donor, abducted sims will never return or will birth a toad, because sims can not hold toad, sim will be frozen in position until they are reset and toad will float in the air twitching. Bigfoot chosen as witch will not cause harm but merely be annoying.

I thought the extra moneys only happened if someone moves out of an existing household?  So a CAS family of 8 would have 20,000 but if, for whatever reason, half the family moved out then they would get the 20,000 +.  I don't really pay enough attention to family funds to know how move outs work now.

Yeah, that's how it works... and then you can Merge them back into the household with all their money.

Yes, it's easy to 'just not do the stupid cheaty thing,' but I'm always intensely uncomfortable when the game has, programmed into its normal gameplay, things so easily exploited that they must have noticed it when they implemented them. I wish they'd leave stuff that borked for console commands, so you know you're cheating when you do it.

Yes, that's right (according to Prima).  This is still the case that no20khandout is concerned with, though -- it's not just about not manipulating the Merge Household tool, but also about not generating money out of thin air when one part of a family moves out of the home.  In other words, the leaving member should only take their fair share of the household money, rather than an arbitrary 20,000+.

Did they say in ADDITION to the free 20K, or INSTEAD of? Seems a bit pointless to have apartments if they're going to give you so much that you wouldn't need one. And I'm guessing that if I simply don't bother updating no20K to support that feature, the old rule will remain.

To quote the Prima chapter directly: "Now, moving out families return to the Family bin with §20,000 (for the first adult or elder) plus an extra amount for each...."

borkborkbork

Edited to fix a typo.  Please don't eat me.

Pets sleeping on the murphy bed will either refuse to shoo when you want to close the bed (realistic) or will instead become permanently stuck in the bed.

Too right! That's assuming, of course, that the bed's even enabled for Pets interactions in the first place...  ::)

All children in apartments you're not currently playing will arrive home in separate school buses, causing major lag and probably a crash.

The green glow of the witches (which we can't turn off) will cause random crashes for Nvidia cards, and EAxis will send us to Nvidia for the fix (and Nvidia won't have one).

The butler will have more of a bathing obsession than the nanny.

EA will release the EP and forget to add any tiles that look like ceiling tiles.  They will offer ONE downloadable tile on the website, made by MaxoidMonkey, six months after release.  It will not show up in-game and be removed from the site.

Casting spells won't work on any community lots.

The slide animation will be borked, causing Sims to sink into the ground.

The custom content dialog at startup will be reset to "disable" and the program will crash if it is set to "enable." EA tech support indicates that this is working as intended.

Since some players claim they now have the game, the Bork Pool for Apartment Life is now closed.  Congrats Grugly for being the last contestant.  :)
