1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Maid Hair without Cap on: 2009 July 29, 13:45:18
Sorry for not checking back in on this before now.

The maid hair I replaced should not display a cap at further out levels (I believe that witchzenka was referring to oepu's link, rather than mine).

The pineapple hair does show as the original when you zoom out; I neglected to change the LOD versions accidentally.  I'll make a new version which replaces them all and upload that.

Motoki, I edited the meshes rather than any alpha files; I moved the pieces of the pineapple spray thing inside of the head, and shrunk the cap so it is invisible.  I haven't tried altering any alphas as of yet.  If you want further details/steps on how I did this, I can PM you.
2  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Maid Hair without Cap on: 2009 July 25, 10:46:23
Posting to share the maid hair with the frilly cap removed.  The hair works quite well as an updo on its own, with the cap taken off.  I made this a while ago, but was mostly inspired to share it after seeing that the same hairstyle (sans cap) is being offered at TSR as a pay item.  This is to spite them for asking people to subscribe to buy an in-game, EA hairstyle that they haven't made (seriously, it takes a minute to remove the cap and anyone with the tools can do it).

This mesh replaces the current maid hair; when the tools come out to make non-replacement hair, I will upload a version that does not replace it.  Because it's a replacement, you must type in "unlockoutfits on" or "disableclothingfilter on" (the latter, only if you have AM) in order to access it.  Works for teen, YA/A, and elder.

3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What defines "Growing up well"? on: 2009 July 24, 16:06:26
Learn to read, Xebarsis. Obviously there's something more than just learning the basics while a toddler.

I've had success in growing up every toddler "well" I've played since the game came out.  I only ensured that they learned to walk, talk and use the toilet.  Only a small handful of them had any access to any toddler skill-gain items, such as the peg box, and their outcome was no different than those who did not have the toys.  The teaching was alternated between parents of varying relationships with them.

Did you ever change your sim's age via editsim?  I ask because doing so seems to cause Sims to wear random clothes into the shower, rather than going nude.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Apocalypse! How many are left? on: 2009 July 12, 10:52:38
That's part of my complaint.
It feels like collectibles should do something more than what they do, which is fill trivial wants and little else. If there was a real purpose, I wouldn't find it to be so completely pointless and aggravating. It could be a good idea; it just isn't in the form it is now.

The rocks, butterflies and insects don't seem to fill anything other than a promised wish (although the rocks can get you money), but the seeds do have a purpose imo.  They are part of the gardening skill and its associated challenges and opportunities.  This may not be the style of gameplay you want, but they do lead to further interactions in the game, and directly to fulfilling one of the LTWs if you give this to one of your sims.
6  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 July 10, 18:36:35
I thought the perfect fish would be tedious as well, but in a family of eight (the first gen rolled the 5 kids wish), there was enough money for my fishing sim not to have to work.  So he just fished all day and night, stopping for food and sleep and hygiene needs, but he skilled up to the top fairly quickly.  The nearer you are to the top, the easier it seems to be to catch perfect fish.

In addition, having a perfect piece of bait for a fish seemed to always produce a perfect fish when it was caught, although this is not a necessity.  My sim fulfilled this LTW a few days ago, but still only knows about four of the baits for all of the fish in the game.
7  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 July 10, 18:14:34
The fishing one could probably be counted as a "skill"-related LTW, couldn't it?  I think your success in it is almost invariably tied to your level of fishing skill (but perhaps there are the lucky few who can catch X amount of perfect fish without getting a single fishing skill point).  In my game, the number was 13, not 8, so it's definitely a variable if that's the number you had.

This would leave the other two to be counted as financial/wealth LTWs.
8  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: EDIT: Futher FUBAR. Damn, EA. You really fail this time. on: 2009 July 10, 18:11:45
I'm having a variant of this, without having used "runstoryaction".  Red squares appear in some sim's relationship panels, and all eight of the sims in the house show one of the sim's picture in the UI.  I can't properly see what their queued actions are, and they all show as selected (with a white square around them), but they can still perform actions I set for them.  A reboot appeared to solve the problem, but it returned within five minutes of play when I started up again.
9  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: none of my pregnant females ever show a bump on: 2009 July 02, 14:33:27
I've been having this problem recently.  No longer pregnancy mods installed, though.  My sim has had five kids; she showed a bump for the first one, but none of the others.  The only mods I have installed/changed in this time are awesomemod (for a new build) and a mod to remove the red line when the game is paused.  She retains the walk and gives birth as normal, though.
10  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 Anti-Piracy uses PACE? on: 2009 June 27, 19:15:45
Running Vista32, disc version, and I have a PACE Anti-Piracy folder in "Program Data".  However, the files within are labelled Sims 2 Glamour Stuff Pack.  Nothing for Sims 3.
11  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 June 23, 07:10:52
I didn't see this in the RTFM, but found it mentioned in another thread:

disableclothingfilter on/off - Lets you pick any item of clothing for any category in the CAS screen.
12  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 June 22, 09:06:54
Since the original post does not explicitly forbid this, I would like to assume that we can use something like "editsim" to improve the looks of EA-made sims before adding them to the family.  The post only indicates that you cannot create new sims, but does not preclude editing them.  In my case, I'd like to change a few facial features but not the name, character, etc.  Is this considered cheating?

Also, it was mentioned upthread that you can get rich in the family, then have a townie with the Gold Digger LTW marry in and kill your created sim off.  Is there a way to find out what someone's LTW is before they join your family?  Or are you recommended to have them move in without marrying, then kick them out if they lack this LTW or marry them if they do?
13  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Hidden/missing traits? on: 2009 June 19, 20:09:31
I'm disappointed they nixed traits like Shy or Materialistic.  I can see how there is a similarity between some of these traits and others, but having more choice is fun - saying a character is Vain versus a Snob, for example.  Some in the game seem to overlap anyways (Charismatic and Schmoozer offer some of the same, or similar, interactions).

I'd really love Paranoid in particular, but I think there's less chance some of that remains given I found less references to it.
14  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Hidden/missing traits? on: 2009 June 19, 15:44:01
It would make sense - others such as Materialistic or Vain may have become Snob.  I'd like to try and find a way to view the animation files which seem to still be there for some of them [inside FullBuild0.package].
15  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Hidden/missing traits? on: 2009 June 19, 15:12:21
I was poking around the game files in an attempt to see if I could find out where clothing categories are set for each item and stumbled across graphics for some traits that I haven't heard about or seen before.  Apologies if these are widely known:

These are, in alpha order: Boring, Conversationalist, Crybaby, Dreamer, Easily Bored, Gloomy, Good Masseuse, Greedy, Materialistic, Quick Recovery, Rude, Shy, Stubborn, Sweet Talker, Vain, Wanton and Worrywart.

I wondered if perhaps some are linked to careers in the same way "Can Salute" or "Can Apprehend Burglar" may be; for example, Sweet Talker could be linked to the Political career, Good Masseuse to the part-time Spa career or Quick Recovery to the Medical career.

However, the others do not seem to be career rewards or lifetime rewards, so I would guess these are traits that were not included.  However, some stubs of them may be present and inactive.  Could anyone who knows more about the code, or has looked around it at more, offer any opinions?

Edit: There also appear to be CAS animations for Boring, Crybaby, Dreamer, Gloomy, Materialistic, Rude, Shy, Vain and Worrywart in the files, as well as Paranoid and Stupid [not in the icons above].  Perhaps there's more of these traits left in the game?
16  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Store & Exchange Open for viewing on: 2009 May 29, 19:05:18
I wanted to get some shots of those textures and ask people who have the game if they are indeed new. Because the scalping is beginning to make me wonder if there is a huge gas leak in Redwood Shores.

They're new to me (running the razor version).  Unless the retail version includes them, I think they will only be available if you purchase that dress.  It'd be a bit pointless for the store to say they are included if they were already in the game.
17  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Store & Exchange Open for viewing on: 2009 May 29, 14:45:42
There are a few things I would probably get (the closed waistcoat for guys - why is the one in-game open and untidy? - and the women's quilted leather jacket come to mind) but a bunch of it is pointless.  I don't see a need, for example, for different designs of microwave.  I'd rather be able to recolor my stairs than offer my sims another design to stare at while they heat up their hot dogs.
18  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release on: 2009 May 27, 22:12:49
Oh, good call - I hadn't thought about it being a rabbit hole, although I did wonder once I noticed the piece on the roof.

I'm annoyed at the things they left out, too - the roof height is really bugging me.  And the lack of stages, and heights for wall deco.  They've also lost (as far as I can tell) the ability for a sim to lock a door to a chosen group (such as all sims, family, etc).

Some paintings do appear to have recolorable frames, from what I've seen as I've done houses.  Shame they couldn't do it for fences and stairs.
19  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 27, 21:54:57
What's up with CAS-made sims obtaining methods of transport that they haven't been given by me?  I've moved families into homes and chosen vehicles (or lack thereof), and then later seen those people out and about town with bikes and cars that I didn't actually purchase for them.  I don't think it's related to the problem with story progression mode, because they don't later have those vehicles if I make them my active family.

It's not a dealbreaker, but it's a bit odd.  I would've expected them to walk or get taxis, instead of hijacking cars while I'm not looking!
20  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release on: 2009 May 27, 21:48:23
There is no individual roof pitch slider, and no cheat (under CTRL-C "help") to change roof heights individually, in the razor/patched version I'm running.

However, this picture of Riverview shows a gambrel roof with two individual pitches, so it's either possible through a later patch/final game release, or they've cheated in another way that we don't get to do.

21  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release on: 2009 May 27, 08:22:04
I had the same problem - installed the razor release over the reloaded release, and it updated, but every patch file said it was the wrong region.  I had to uninstall the reloaded and install the razor version "clean" and it patched after that.

The game does seem to play without the crashes I was experiencing with the reloaded version; I haven't seen whether the time passes any differently.
22  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 26, 08:01:58
Can JPEGs and whatnot be imported into the game and applyed as textures with out needing any fancy work?
eg. if i was to take a tiled background from my computer or something can it be added in with ease?

This isn't possible at the moment; you can only work with the textures that EA has included with the game and change the colors when you apply them to clothes, furniture, walls, etc.
23  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 26, 05:06:04
These look like the game's textures recolored by Skadi, rather than jpgs imported into the game as textures - is there anything to write a tutorial thread about yet?
24  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release on: 2009 May 25, 23:35:20
Is the Reloaded version really different enough that it won't be able to be patched with the official patch?  I really don't want to spend another 2.5 days downloading yet another version of TS3.
If you're talking about .615 build, then no, that won't take the patch - I tried and the updater told me it hit an invalid file as soon as it came across skuversion.txt.  I was tempted to manually change the build number in that file to .631, but since there may be other changes (or places that number is recorded inside of the files), I left it as was.

I'm also currently grabbing the Razor version to see whether it makes any difference...
25  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 24, 11:59:01
Using the CASt tool, click on an object with the desired texture on it - say, a couch - and drag the pattern on to the intended object - a chair - in the room/house.  This should ask you to choose a channel for the material to be replaced (so you can pick whether your pattern would replace the chair's fabric or its legs.  Then you can click on the chair and save it as a preset.
