1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Shut Up the DJ Hack? on: 2009 June 23, 07:59:22
Presumably there's a WAV file (or several) somewhere with the DJ voices. What if one were to locate this file and replace with an empty WAV file, similar to the silent startup files? Or, to be more exact, where might one find these files?

I PM'd Treeag with this question over at MTS2 yesterday since she's an excellent modder and has done one with sounds. She doesn't have time to do this mod, but she said:

Yes there's a sound file for that DJ of course, maybe somewhere in sfx.package or misc.package. The thing is, those packages are pretty much a big mess. There's no label whatsoever so to find it you might have to extract all of them and listen to each of them to determine which is which. Once you find it though, you'll just have to take note of the instance number and then make a new blank mp3 file and import it into a package. Hope that helps.

Perhaps it will; thanks again Treeag if you visit here.

I found the sfx files under Program Files/EA Games/The Sims 2/TSData/Sounds, and randomly extracted one and tried to listen to it. My Windows Media, however, said it didn't support that type of MP3 file and it might have been compressed.  If anyone has an EA friend or an old programmer tech handbook that an EA/Maxis would have, it should have the instance number.  From that point making a Shut Up The DJ hack would be a breeze for a sound person (unfortuately I'm not).

2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / A new spin on an old question on: 2009 June 22, 17:11:09
I have all EPs, FFS, GL, and Mansion & Garden.

Okay, I created a new custom neighborhood. 275 sims and 12 lots (Secret Lots, I presume) were automatically generated.

In that hood I added a Downtown. This pushed up the sim number to 353.

Otherwise I did not add any of my own sims or lots or play any of the game-generated sims.

In effort to reduce the population, I then went to the Characters folder and deleted all files for sims from 275 to 353, and the Downtown lots from #13 on, then changed the Downtown template using Mootilda's Hood Replacement Program (MTS2) to have a prettier Downtown.

I am guessing that all the new (now deleted) Downtownies were never initialized, thus had no memories or connection to other sims since none of them were added to my Sim Bin.

Question: was this a good strategy, or can I expect neighborhood corruption after I start playing? And will I be missing the Master Vampire or any other important characters by removing the Downtownies files?  Thanks.

I'd love to have this hack too. You can shut him up only by turning off voices, but then you can't hear your sims talk.

The DJ's verbage not only doesn't match different types of music, but if you're listening to your own music while playing and it's mellow, his/her obnoxious noise doesn't match the ambiance in the game.

I've seen this request quite a few times in different sites over the years, but either it can't be done or the few who can do it haven't yet had the time or inclination. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will now.

I understand and have done most of the steps except one, which is in the 4th paragraph of the tutorial from the top:

Now find the face or faces in question (remember, you can get the names from the CAS in debug mode) and then export them. Make a new file in SimPE and import them.

I've done a lot of things in SimPE over the past three years, but never had the need to make a new file. How do I do this?

I clicked on "New" at the top, which gave me a container, but I could not figure out how to open it in order to import the files.

I'm sure the answer is maddeningly simple but I'm stumped. An answer would be greatly appreciated as the rest of this great tutorial is a breeze.

I love two ideas I read on this thread

~ Family reacts when child is kidnapped

~ Family can report child missing.

And oh yea, I'd add maybe a bunch of faces on a missing milk carton as a hack object to click on and get kid back... or not.

Mwah-hah-hah!

(Hint, hint, Pescado)

Not true, I registered using my Sims 2 username and it lets me use the forums and other things (user pages, stories, movies, etc.).   Under User Settings on my Sims3 page, I can plug in the registration if and when I get the game.

Maybe that was true when you tried, but I just tried at the forum section and couldn't complete registration w/o recording a serial number for the Sims 3, which I don't have yet.

Our fam has decided to get it on June 2, the curiosity is too strong to resist, and I've decided to think of it as a different game that's not the Sims 2, but similar. Will I like it more? Don't know, but I think it might be fun, at least for awhile.

If this happened in Sims 2, you could use a teleporter hack or SimPE to get it back.

I don't know if this is a bug or an on purpose, but my Sim baby was kidnapped! My Sim had a friend over. He was holding her toddler. When she told him to leave, he walked out of the house with the baby, it disappeared from the family and it's gone. A little bit later the game said that the toddler and her mom were no longer friends because the mom never called her but the toddler doesn't have a phone to call... and where did she go!? I tried to have my Sim invite her friend over again but he came without the toddler. I tried having the babysitter come in the hopes that the babysitter would somehow find and bring back the baby. Still nothing! She's just gone!

Damn that's funny.
