1  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Clothing tool crashing game/KERNELBASE.dll error on: 2012 September 24, 05:12:44
Does buying clothes the normal way, from a community lot, work? How about CAS and Body Shop?

I just tried to open CAS in a clean, non-Strangetown test neighborhood and it crashed. I haven't been able to open Body Shop on my computer in ages, so I don't know about that one. The game also crashed when I removed all CC except the clothingtool, it just crashed faster.

I'm assuming something is corrupt or borked in the game files, then. I guess it's time to unearth my game disks and do a reinstall.

Sounds like it. But before you do that, try regenerating your Sims 2 folder in Documents. Back up your neighbourhoods and downloads first and just delete the folder. It might just be a corrupt cache file or something.

However, when they use it, they technically do get aged down but their hair and clothes remain in the Elder stage. Is there any way to fix that or did I just neglect to follow proper procedure? (I installed the Core Functions just in case).

That's normal when aging down an elder, at least the hair. Send them to the mirror a couple of times and give them a change of clothes, and they should be fine.
4  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Re: Kitchen & Bath Stuff Objects Fix - SNS/FT Functions Enabled (Updated 2008/07/10) on: 2012 August 22, 17:42:22
8-20-2012

Okay, I realize that I'm probably the only one still playing the Sims 2, but I have something to add to this conversation.

Yesterday I fired up my game and several objects were missing. The most expensive refrigerator, romantic stove, footed stove, romantic dishwasher and a round mirror, just to name a few. In the houses that they were placed in, the object was not visible, but the space was occupied.

I could not highlight or delete the invisible items because they technically weren't there. The sledgehammer would sometimes delete the item, but sometimes it wouldn't. There was no set pattern on what it would delete and what it wouldn't.

The items came from Kitchens & Bath Interior Design. Also missing from this game were all hair that came with this particular game, all clothes that came with this particular game, cabinets, bathroom tiles and flooring, besides the other stuff mentioned. Flooring and paint were easily re-covered over since you don't have to delete the previous object before re-painting or re-flooring.

This morning I decided to re-load the entire game series, starting with the original Sims 2 disks. But when I got to Kitchens & Bath Interior Design, when I got into the game, the items were completely missing, as in, in the display panel, "No Pic" was displayed instead of the picture of the item. When I selected the "item", because the game would still let me, the items were still invisible but would still take up space.

All of these items coincidentally, are the ones you made the patch for. I did not install your patch...yet. If I decide to load your patch, I will let you know if it brought back these items.

I made no changes or updates to my PC from the time I played it and everything worked/was there, until the time I played it and stuff was missing.

If anyone is still playing the Sims 2, you might want to consider deleting these items before they disappear and you have a "blank space" that you cannot move another item into.

1. This isn't something that'll be fixed by installing LordDarcy's fix. I don't know why you'd think so, as described in the first post her fixes only add later EP features to some of the objects that EA, in their infinite wisdom, left out.

2. Sounds like your K&B installation got corrupted, or your game was just having a bad day. Have you tried deleting your cache files and starting the game again, to make sure this is a permanent issue and not just a one time thing? If the problem persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling K&B.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What exactly is in groups.cache, and why does it break so often? on: 2012 July 29, 19:47:09
I have this problem too, along with a whole bunch of other people, but usually only after my amount of CC gets over a certain point. I just assume that Groups.cache contains some sort of references to the CC (among other things, I presume), and starts having problems when it becomes too much.

What exactly do you mean by "no bodies"? Does changing the sims' clothing not help?
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Remove food? on: 2012 June 29, 19:32:50
Try taking out the whole downloads folder and test in a new neighbourhood?
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: When are townies created without notownieregen? on: 2012 June 02, 22:22:54
No necromancy is meant, but since my question is related to the topic, here it is:

If you remove notownieregen from the game, will everything return back to normal? i.e. will townies be generated/created as they used to be? Huh

Also, what about antiredundancy? Same thing?

Yes.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ending Process of The Sims 2 on Task Manager? on: 2012 May 29, 15:10:32
Get down with your bad selves.

I'm pretty sure closing down with Task Manager is done, as evidenced by this very thread.

The point is that no one would think to suggest that being the problem, because it's not a normal thing to do. YOU were the only person who could possibly know you weren't shutting the game down properly. It's like asking why Word isn't prompting you to save your file when you shut down your computer, and neglect to mention that you shut down your computer by holding in the off button.
11  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Pleasantview, Strangetown & Veronaville Project [UPDATED] on: 2012 May 13, 20:28:29
Sounds like you merged the folders. Don't do that. Delete the old Neighborhoods folder first, THEN put in the new one.

Awesome. Now I might actually get some use out of those roofs.

5. When a sim is abducted, is the alien pregnancy decided at the start of abduction or when the sim is sent home?
I believe it occurs during the return sequence, because if something breaks in mid-abduction, nothing happens.

Yeah, the little pregnancy music cue plays only after the abducted sim has recovered from the shock.

I'm looking for a mod that will allow me to keep empty apartments vacant instead of the game forcing townies to move in. I've briefly looked through the mods here and tried searching Google and Modthesims, but I've not had any success. I'm not even sure that such a hack exists, but it would be very useful to me if it did. Thanks in advance.

I've never seen such a hack, but there's one by Cyjon that lets normal townies move in instead of the game spawning useless social townies. Here: http://drupal.cyjon.net/node/220
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Transfering the sims 2 games to another pc without reinstalling? on: 2012 February 07, 06:43:35
Yeah. Unfortunately I think the majority of the people who have this problem won't be smart enough to use this solution.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Visiting Businesses Owned by Other Sims on: 2012 February 01, 20:45:35
Do these businesses have anything else in common? What happens if you replace the (some or all) craftables with regular buyable items in one of them?

You might want to avoid Yahoo Answers, though.
19  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Clean custom neighbourhoods + townie creation (updated for Seasons) on: 2011 October 27, 18:03:15
Where do I get, or how do I make an 'empty version' of it?

Sorry if it's been asked before.

Have you tried, you know, looking around a little bit? Like say... stickied threads... very close by...
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Identical twin townies! on: 2011 September 03, 15:30:59
Downtownies are made from full sim templates, including appearance, clothes, makeup, accessories, hair and so on. Because the game is stupid, it has no check for whether a template has already been used or not when it creates a new downtownie. So, when you mass-create downtownies using the mailbox, there's a very good chance you'll get at least one pair of clones. It does no harm, it's just annoying.
21  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Lot won't install properly on: 2011 August 29, 19:07:00
Hm. What about installing the lot once, with all the CC, then deleting the lot, and installing it again with the clean installer, but this time only install the lot...?

'Cause it almost sounds like it's somehow doing things in the wrong order, creating the lot before the CC is in place (I don't know if that's even possible, but it's worth a try?).

Edit:

Quote
The same is true for the lot that was already placed in the 'hood when I switched computers--even with all the CC in the proper folder, the lot is completely stripped.

Of course, my theory didn't take this into account.

Very strange. :/

Try it in an otherwise CC free game too, just in case?
22  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Lot won't install properly on: 2011 August 28, 06:56:39
What happens if you place new CC items of the same type on the lot? Do they also flash blue/not work? What happens if you use the waterdropper tool on the broken items?
23  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Disappearing headmaster on: 2011 July 11, 05:54:06
Whenever the headmaster has coffee, he heads for the sink to wash the cup.  And then he disappears!

...Can't you just have the headmaster NOT drink coffee? I don't think I've ever had a headmaster do that.
24  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2011 July 01, 22:00:24
There are also hacked versions of TS2 Enhancer available. It wasn't a bad program and there were a couple of things I used it for which were quicker and easier to manage in that program, than in SimPE.

Not saying it's a bad program (I wouldn't know, but the screenshots look nice enough), but almost none of the features listed are particularly difficult to do in SimPE, except maybe setting a 'retired from' job. There's also something especially off-putting about them wanting $15 for polishing features that already exist in SimPE for free.
25  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2011 July 01, 21:02:50
don't you have TS2 Enhancer v.2.0 ?

1. Who are you talking to?

2. I've never heard of this TS2 Enhancer before, but from the looks of it, it's just a SimPE for Dummies, AND it's pay. Why would anyone want that, let alone pay for it?
