Title: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: jfade on 2008 January 02, 05:02:01
For those of you who have been following this for a while or who maybe have no bloody clue what I'm talking about, the Wardrobe Wrangler has finally been officially released! It's basically a tool that allows you to edit all of your CAS items, doing things like changing the everyday flags of an item, color binning hair, setting genetic strength of eyes and skin tones, and more. If you wish to check it out, head on over! :)

I'm really enjoying the cat humour in the manual and the programme writing history in the 'About'. Sitting in class coding because you were so goddam bored in a computing intro class.  :D

I have an issue... Is there a reason I'm getting an error when opening hair files? It says to get the log file, but I have no idea where that's located. I read the manual and am still lost!

Post by: witch on 2008 January 02, 06:25:14
Hey Lizzie. I think jfade's crashed at the moment. I had a problem too. Try reloading your files. That worked for me.

The log file is in the folder where you installed the Wrangler.

I looked in that file witch, but I'm clueless. I was looking for log.txt, is it something else?

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: witch on 2008 January 02, 07:36:46
If you got jfade's installer, you could try looking in c:\ program files\Wardrobe Wrangler \ LogFile.txt
I don't know that that's where he puts it but it seems likely.

If you got the one you just run from a folder, look at the folder where you put the zip file and find LogFile.txt

This file is just for jfade to suss out why it is playing up. It won't help you get the Wrangler going again.

I have been watching the forum for the final copy before installing. So going to put it in and try it out this week.

Good Simming,

I love the townify feature.  I've been manually townifying most clothes I download, and I can do that pretty fast, but this will be much easier and faster.  There are other things I've never bothered trying to townify; mainly eyebrows since there are so damned many resources to fix.

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!

What does townifying mean?

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: cyperangel on 2008 January 04, 18:20:56
I went about townifying alll my clothes, but had to delete the ones done, and redo from a backup, as my game kept crashing when i tried to load lots or CAS after the townifying had been done. Once i redid from the backup, i could load everything again, so something went wrong.
Also, I categorized some 120 odd downloads of jewelry as jewelry, all set as available anywhere. But when my sim heads out to shop for blingbling, only around 20 shows up.... :( The rest just went poof.

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!

What does townifying mean?
"Townifying" only changes some properties in the GZPS, so that those items appear without the custom content marker, thus making them available in the townies clothing pool.

Cyperangel, did you try deleting the CasThumbnails.package file?

Nope, can't say I did. Will that help on the bugged out loading, or the missing jewelry?

Well, I wouldn't recommend going through and doing everything at once anyhow, take things in batches, so that if something does go wrong you know exactly where and can narrow it down easily.

With regards to the jewelery, you only used the bins listed in the jewelery section at the bottom of the tab, right? If you use some of the other recommended bins up above that it won't work.

I've had this problem (the game or Body Shop crashing when I tried to load clothes) with stuff from TSR that I modified with Wardrobe Wrangler. My advice is to change clothing in small batches and to not change anything from TSR.

This may be a total noob question, but I need some clarification on binning hairs. I have all the hairstyles on the left, and then on the bottom right of the window I can scroll to the right to get to the other files included in that hairstyle. In the ones that are properly binned, I can see that the second-to-last file is binned in grey and the rest are brown (for example). So what I'm understanding is that those 6 files are the different age groups for that hairstyle. Does that mean that when I bin hairs the second-to-last file needs to be put in grey, and the rest in the right colour? What about those hairstyles which don't include all age groups? Is there a way to tell which one should go in grey?

I've noticed that TSR FA items makes the program hang big time. I tried to change the category on something of xandhers, loaded BS, and it crashed when I tried to select it. So WW+TSR FA=Bad

Where did you get these items from? TSR itself, or PMBD? TSR originals contain spyware which may disrupt functioning, and may also have bad compression.

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 January 13, 15:18:22
Speaking of TSR, is there any reliable way to strip that spyware crap from original TSR files? Would it be sufficient to compress them with Jfade's Compressorizer? I heard that changing date/time with Attribute Changer is not safe enough.

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: mommytotwo on 2008 January 13, 19:09:18
I got them from TSR itself. The only reason I have a sub is because it's for the good of the community.  ;D  I figured the "spyware" was the reason for the hanging in the wrangler. I'll just get the non spyware versions off the booty.  :)

Edit: Lord Darcy, using the compressorizer isn't enough.  :-\

For certain values of reliable. The best way is to get it from PMBD. I don't think the tools I use for it translate well to Windoze.

Before I say anything on this I must make it very, very clear that I do not know all of the details and everything that I do know I've heard second hand from various sources including but not limited to PSMD. So take this with a grain of salt. As I understand it, they tag their downloads in an attempt to catch the downloaders who are handing over their files to the booty. IIRC, Pescado figured this out and changed the tags to read something along the lines of "PIRATESPWN". Or maybe it was all just a crazy, vivid dream. ;)

I must apologize for changing the subject, but I have a question.
(yes I know there is a forum on DJSsims, but I don't want to register and I saw questions being answered here. If this means I deserve a good poke with the pointy stick then so be it.)

I had made two custom eyes before I installed WW but didn't use them much because they were too dominant, so I got WW and made them recessive. It worked perfectly. I was so thrilled that I decided to go and make that custom hazel eye that I have been wanting. So I used bodyshop and paint.net to make a hazel that matches the maxis eyes. I saved, uploaded to game, and opened WW: no hazel eyes. So I opened the game; hazel eyes were available, so I made a sim with them and left her in the bin. I opened WW; still no hazel eyes. I opened /savedsims in "my computer" and found it in the folder, but WW can't find it.

Anyone know where my plan for hazel eyed sims has gone wrong?
I am including the package file with the eyes for awesome inspection, in case that helps (or any of ya'll want hazel eyes that need their genetics fixed  :))

Taking a shot in the dark: Needs to be in downloads folder, not the Saved Sims or Projects folder?

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: raiu on 2008 January 16, 18:28:24
I only put mods and objects in /downloads, because clothes/hair/etc don't show up in my game if I don't put them in /savedsims (also that's where body shop put the package; I made the eyes). But I tried moving it and it still doesn't show up in WW (dunno about the game and not really planning to find out). So I shall move it back and await another suggestion.  :-\

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: Jelenedra on 2008 January 16, 18:44:35
That's weird, I can put hair, clothes, etc in Downloads and they work fine. Sounds like a tights pant issue.

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: jfade on 2008 January 16, 19:43:06
Unless something changed about how eyes are produced by Bodyshop, the wrangler should find it so long as you point the Wrangler to the right folder where the package is located. :)

As far as the TSR files, I'm not entirely sure what's up with them. Something is clearly off though and the Wrangler seems to have a hard time reading them sometimes. I'm still not entirely positive about what's going on.

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: raiu on 2008 January 16, 22:00:52
Maybe it was tight pants. I moved the file to the desktop and then opened WW and was able to edit it just fine. Then I moved it back to /savedsims, reopened WW and it "disappeared" again. But when I opened CAS the eyes were there and had the corrected genetic strength.

The phrasing of this sentence leads me to believe that your downloads folder is actually typed as "downloads". If you don't use a capital D (as in Downloads) you'd have problems with bodyshop content showing up in game.

Clothes/makeup are bodyshop items which seems to have a case-sensitive thing where the Downloads folder is concerned.  Yet another masterpiece of EAxis coding, no doubt.  Ours not to reason why, I suppose (or at least that never gets us anywhere).  Just another thing to remember (like 'don't move occupied lots between neighbourhoods even though EAxis makes it so easy to do').  You are looking for logic and reason in an area where it may not exist.

Fish are not found in the sky (usually).

Coming to this a bit late, but it's a nasty surprise to me to.  I've never subscribed to TSR, but I've been downloading free stuff for a long time and I have some lots there.  Is the spyware in all their stuff or just the pay stuff?  Is this new or have I got spyware in the things I downloaded ages ago when you could pick up pay stuff free on rotation?

TSR Spyware is an innovation that appeared within the last year and afflicts all .package items in zips. Sims2packed items are unaffected. It is believed to be embedded in all items downloaded within the past year, whether free or not. Based on our available information, we would classify this on the terror scale as a Yellow security threat: it is malicious in nature, but of limited potential for damage.

When you call it TSR spyware, do you just mean a mechanism whereby they can track a downloaded file to the individual who's account it was downloaded from? As in generating a key unique to an user account id. Or do you mean something nastier?

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: Tarlia on 2008 January 19, 11:17:02
Hi, question: Can this be used to recategorize Maxis clothes? So I can put those silly GLS fur coats in Outerwear and remove them from everyday and formal, etc.

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 January 19, 11:41:58
No, it can't be used on Maxis clothing. To recategorize Maxis clothes, write down the name of the Maxis clothing you want to recategorize in CAS debug mode, and find the Property Set for that clothes using the SimPE's resource finder. (PropertySet Search) Extract the property set, make a new file, and add the extracted resourse to the new file. Change the category as you want. You can find category value here (http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=2C1FD8A1#category).

A lot of creators already made various outerwear mods/clothing hiders. You can edit them to suit your needs. For example, fanseelamb's Outerwear mod (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=222563) adds GLS coat to Outerwear. Download the mod, and change the category in Property Set to 0x1000 (Outerwear only).

It appears to be some manner of polymorphic viral string. We have witnessed files infected by it where the string appears to have multiplied itself within the datafile, as well as been infected by other polymorphed variants of it, which sometimes have also multiplied. We believe that it may be an early attempt at a virus intended to infect your other sims files, but it apparently does not work entirely right and only manages to infect itself.

Is there more technical info available, so that this tool and others may - if the coder wishes to do so, of course - be able to cope with it?
The customary method is to acquire two different sources of this file, tear the package apart into its component subfiles, and then hex-diff the file. The virus is pretty primitive and only appends itself to certain filetypes, so once you have two samples with different polymorph variants, you simply truncate the file at the first difference between the two. This is not a process suitable for home processing, because it requires two samples of what is known to be the same file, but we have this automated at PMBD.

I would recommend reading the manual too, it explains most of this. The Wrangler will automagically detect the elder age group and bin it to gray accordingly. Additionally, you must use the Copy to All button for things to go into effect properly, otherwise the file will likely not show up as binned like you would expect.

Usually that means you need .NET Framework 1.1 installed. Get it from MS (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en).

Random thought occurs: Are TSR files still being problematic? If so, can you give me the EXACT link to the file you're having problems with? I don't want to have to go searching around to try and find hair XYZ made by artist 123 when they have 50 gazillion items.

I recently tried binning some TSR content again on a whim (the actual item I binned was created in December of 07, relatively recent) and it seems to be functioning fine now so I'm curious to see if that's what everyone else has noticed.

The only problem I've had is that the ease with which I can now bin hair, bin and townify eyes, and townify clothing, has caused me to go on a massive downloading spree.

Now if someone would make a tool to automate the process of creating replacement and extra face templates, I'd have nothing left to even wish for.

I've just downloaded this and aleady I absolutely love it! There is just one thing that I don't quite understand yet. I've heard that if you have a style of hair that comes in black, brown, blonde and red then obviously all grey hair in all four packages will be the same. I've read many times that this means the grey hair can be deleted in three out of the four hair packages to save space. What I can't quite work out though is what happens if you leave the grey hair only in say the black package then have an adult with the blonde version of the hair transition to elder. Does the game know to give them the black version of the grey hair (assuming the hairs were familied) or does it choose another hair for them because it can't find the blonde version of the grey hair?

If the Family IDs of the hairs in question are identical, then it will choose the correct gray.

Thanks, I made a start on deleting the extra grey hairs and put all the colours into families. After I'd done a few I decided to check bodyshop and found that for some reason it is displaying almost all the grey hair as the Maxis straight hair in the thumbnails. When I click on the thumbnail the correct custom hairstyle shows up on the sims but it's still pretty annoying. Does this usually happen?

Yeah, for some reason, when I tried to do all that, I got a bunch of elder colors that were black, brown, red, etc. Is this because I usually list the white hair as custom?

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!
Post by: Sivany on 2008 February 26, 23:43:12
I think it is because you are setting the white hair to custom, although if you are familying them I don't see why it would do that, especially if you set the elder hair within the custom package to 'grey'. Have you deleted the elder packages from the other colours of the hair?

I've also found that some of my hairs from Rose won't show up in the Wardrobe Wrangler, but I guess I should post about that on the forum rather than here :P

No, I didn't delete the other gray hairs because I thought "it detects automagically" meant that it just picked one random one for the entire family and went with it. I'll have to redo them. AGAIN.

 ??? HELP  ???

My skintones dont seem to townify properly, is this problem just me or haveother people been having it? They appear unchanged, no matter what I do.
Does anyone know what is wrong, or at least can relate?

1) This thread is not meant as a tech support for the Wrangler.

2) I'll be nice anyways.

What do you mean by "unchanged" the point of townify feature is not that it will apply to current townies, only that newly spawned townies/NPCs have a chance of being spawned with a custom skintone. For example, if you go into CAS and hit the random button, are the sims being generated with custom skintones? If they are, then it is working as intended.

This could only be expected to happen since jfade closed his website.  This sort of thing is probably happening all over the internet.

DJSsims seems to still exist, as I am there right now in another tab. I do believe Khan has spent too much time drinking with his Followers.

So, you can access help in the forums then, Trixie?  My understanding was that they were closed.  Perhaps I am wrong.

And so we see that the moral of the story is that one can contemplate hot pants and drink with acolytes without becoming completely distracted and out of touch.

There's a lesson in that for everyone, I think.

It is often most advantageous to not be distracted and completely out of touch when the subject is hot pants.  In fact, being focussed and in touch typically is most rewarding.  How else could one arrive at the truth concealed within such profound mysteries?

I, myself, am an avid seeker after truth, although "profound mysteries" do not present themselves nearly often enough, in my view.

Sorry to break up the "awe inspiring" hot pants discusssion, but I am in MORTAL PERIL (sort of) :o

When i mean unchanged, I mean it doesnt show up in CAS in any form, and any new townies created with the boolprop cheat are the same as always---Bland.

PS. I admit it, i am a noob to this site, (note the pathetic amount of posts), and have no idea if this site has any "help" areas, and if so, could someone point me in the right direction?

Stupid question number 1: Are you saving after clicking the townie button on the skintones?

Stupid question number 2: Are you remembering to save?

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!

Stop me if I'm wrong, but isn't Stupid question number 2 the same as Stupid question number 1?

Also, I am pleased with the "MORTAL PERIL" characterization of this issue.  What this forum needed right now, I said, was moar outrageously exaggerated characterizations of situations.

Stupid question number 3:  Have you tried other skin tones, just to see if it's the actual skin tones themselves that are borked, or whether your game simply doesn't like any new skin tones?

(I'm assuming you've loaded them properly since WW seems to recognize them and they aren't that difficult to load anyway).

Title: Re: Wardrobe Wrangler Released!

Stupid Question number 4: You do know that even if you geneticize and townize custom skin tones, that they still appear in the custom skintone menu in CAS? You still have to manually select them from that menu (no space in the MAXIS menu for skintones), they will just have a genetic value now.

Stupid Question Number 5: If you didn't know that, are you SURE hitting the random button in CAS is not producing sims with custom skintones?

Stupid Question Number 6:  There is no Stupid Question Number 6.

1-5 Yes.

6. Well thats a relief.

Dont get me wrong, I'm grateful for all the help, but I do know the basics of the game and the Wrangler.

I am pretty sure that if you townify a skintone it doesn't show up under the custom skintone menu anymore. When you geneticize the skins (without townifying them) then it works just as you describe where they are still available in the custom skintone menu and they have a genetic value. When I have townified skintones I usually work around this by creating a sim in BS with the skin and saving it so that I can easily access that skin after I townify it.

Or if you want to avoid the hassle, you can set the genetic power of a skintone and then change its flag from -08 to -00. It will then be used by newly generated townies and still available as custom skin. This is described at this site somewhere and it works.

OOooh that's right. That's even in the FAQ. That's why I don't townify skins, just the hair. I remember now. =p

Mind the rake, Jelenedra, and read the post above yours.

Gwenke: Do you know where on the site that's mentioned in detail? I tried searching, and came up blank.

It's buried in a thread about geneticizing Enayla's skins.  Look in Peasantry.  Madame Min Mens Mortuus posted about it, and I confirmed that it works with eyes as well.

Edited to change to the correct MM name.   :P
