Does anyone know whether it's possible to get the patch without connecting my game machine to the internet?  My game machine hasn't had internet access since EA and Sony decided to start spying on me and destroying my hardware.  I'd prefer to download the patch and copy it over, but I can't see any way to do that.
Yes. What's your region version?

Note that if you got the 632 patch, you have to reinstall now.

For the record, Mac version.

When I wanted a female sprog I made the pregnant sim eat nothing else but what she had in inventory, which incidentally was watermelons. It's not hard at all: keep feeding the preggo so she never happens to be that hungry she raids the fridge, and you're set.
129  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: How to install "awesome" mod on a mac (lots of images, yay!... slow loading. on: 2009 June 24, 21:02:49
Your welcome
Sorry, I HAVE to point it out: YOU'RE, not "your". It makes my teeth grind.

I hate how impossible it is to find some of the files and folders, like there is no way to get to them except to right click and say "show packaged contents"... wtf?)

That's because Mac it's not supposed to work that way (I hope this might make you feel better  Wink); it's a trick we have to use because of the half-hassed way EA did the porting on Mac OS X.
Granted, it's an easy and quick way, and it works - I'm not really complaining about that - but it's not exactly the best or more professional way to do this kind of stuff.

The trick of "show package content" is meant to allow you to examine and alter an application; it's stuff for programmers, advanced tech users and the like, not for the regular use of the Mac.

This is the folder route:
Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Framework > Mods > Packages > Awesome

Is this correct? Should awesomeMod work?

No, it's not correct, and the mod (nor any other mod) will work whatsoever.

I strongly recommend you to use this installer, expecially if you didn't install anything else before. Shameless self-promotion, but really, explaining how to do it manually every time is a hassle.

I had mixed, non consistent, results. Some non-played sims got their tombstone in Mausoleum, despite not being met ever by any of my playables (Newspaper: "ohnoes, Algernon Whatthefuck has passed away"; Playable sim: "... who?"); some others, best friends, disappeared without a trace.

RN is the code for Rimini. In this period of the year is (sadly) chock full of fucktards. That could explain something.
134  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Life Extension? on: 2009 June 23, 21:08:09
According to the code, Elders' minimum age is 2.428 multiplied for the constant k[lifespan]SimDaysPerAgingYear, which is 2 for Short, 4 for Medium, 7 for Normal, 15 for Long, 75 for Epic.

This means the minimum age in days for Elders should be:
  • 4.856 for Short lifespan (25 days total)
  • 9.712 for Medium lifespan (50 days total)
  • 16.996 for Normal lifespan (90 days total)
  • 36.42 for Long lifespan (190 days total)
  • 182.1 for Epic lifespan (970 days total)

After this minimum, each day there's a probability the elder will die, as follows:
  • 30% for Short lifespan
  • 20% for Medium lifespan
  • 14% for Normal lifespan
  • 6% for Long lifespan
  • 3% for Epic lifespan

The only modifier I found is for elder marathon runners (max athletic?), which have their daily chance of dying multiplied for 0.75 - for example 10.5% instead of 14% in case of Normal lifespan.
Unless there's something else hardcoded elsewhere, this seems to be the only thing that affects lifespan.

BTW I foresee Elders' persistence in case of Epic lifespan truly terrifying.

136  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: The Launcher And You: Why You Should Hate It on: 2009 June 23, 07:58:42
New beginner question: where and what is the file I should shortcut to skip the launcher.

It's the TS3.exe, in the same folder of the launcher.

Second beginner question: is it possible to download a full version of the Java whatever, required to launch some in development TS3 tools? I downloaded something linked from here and got a launcher to connect to internet - I can't.

After starting my game (which loaded perfectly fine, no crashes/problems!) I played for about a minute and a half before my mouse disappeared! Sad
I couldn't see the pointer at all, so I keyboard shortcutted a Quit and voila! My mouse was right there on my desktop.

I doubt it's due to awesomemod, as I experienced the same more than once, with and without mod. It occurred more frequently if I keep the game minimized at some point: when I return, the cursor is gone.
138  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Problems with game grinding to a halt on: 2009 June 22, 21:20:20
It's a known (harmless) issue due to the awesomemod computational peak around 1:00 am game time, wrestling against the stupidity of the random story generator by EA. Pes is looking into it, but in the meantime there will be lag around 1 am.
Have a look in the Awesomeware section, it's been discussed.
139  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Jump Bug on: 2009 June 22, 20:05:39

140  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Subfolders for downloads? on: 2009 June 22, 12:23:34
P&L demand -  but I cannot remember how to repack the stupid file once I've opened the blasted thing.  I saved the .cfg after changing and now its saved as a notepad file.

It is a notepad (text) file, there's nothing to repack. Just be sure it ends in .cfg and not .txt and it's fine.
141  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Bug? Bulldoze or Place Copy removes Beautiful Vista on: 2009 June 21, 20:55:48
I built an upper floor on a house which already has the beautiful vista.
Weird thing is, when the sims are in the bedroom, the moodlet goes away, and it reappears when they go in any other room on that floor. The only difference I spotted is that the bedroom has a big panoramic window, while the bathroom and the nursery have small windows which barely let the light pass through.
I wonder what this could mean.
142  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / World of Puddings / Re: Zazazu hates pudding on: 2009 June 21, 11:38:45
I'm unclear as to HOW one shoves a package file in, given that it's not the proper file, or how you even produced one!

I guess it's from the Sims3Package which is created if you choose "share" instead of "save to bin" in CAS. It should be an household and not a sim, also.

144  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: first close to desktop bug on: 2009 June 21, 00:00:08
This is just a wild guess, but are you trying to say that you think you downloaded a borked recolored pattern from the Exchange?  Hell, is that even possible?  Borked mod, I can understand, but a recolor of a pattern?

Never underestimate the power of BBSers.

146  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / [MAC TOOLS] TS3 Framework Installer on: 2009 June 20, 21:03:45
TS3 Framework Installer

Not as cool as Delphy's Monkey thingy, but it can spare some hassle to us poor Mac users.

What it does
  • Creates the subfolders' framework in the correct place.
  • Installs a copy of Resource.cfg, ready for up to 5 subfoldering levels.
  • Installs the custom d3dx9_31.dll, necessary for script mods, like Pes' awesomemod.
  • Creates an alias of the new Mods subfolder on your Desktop.

Use this installer and you will not have to do the rightclick > ShowPackageContent > manually browse inside the guts of The Sims™ 3.app every fucking time you have to update Resource.cfg or manage your cc/mods packages.

WARNING
If you have already manually installed Resource.cfg file, folders, mods and CC, MOVE THEM OUT in a safe place before running this installer; you can put them back in their Mods/Package subfolder later.
If the installer will found subfolders and Resource.cfg already in place, it will show you the panel with those options unchecked, but if you check them again they will be overwritten by fresh and EMPTY copies, therefore it's better safe than sorry: you have been warned.

Details

Resource.cfg content:

/Users/<your username here>/Desktop/The Sims 3  <--- alias
corresponding to
/Applications/The Sims 3.localized/The Sims3.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/

Like any other Mac alias, it can be moved elsewhere, and renamed at your will.

After this installation, that alias will correspond to the root installation directory for TS3 on Mac, and referred to accordingly.

Known Issues
If you run the installer multiple times, it will create a new alias on your desktop every time. They're completely harmless and can be safely deleted with no issues.

Thanks. Here's my problem: I had to change it to a community lot before placing.

Once it's emptied, you should have a toggle button for community/residential in lot's panel.
