Title: Paladin's Palace / Sim Wardrobe - how do I contact Paladin?
Post by: witch on 2007 January 26, 20:25:29
Call me senile but I've had a good browse and can't see any contact link or guestbook or forum or email addy on http://www.simwardrobe.com/

I love the beautiful video machines for download, but the first time I used them in conjuction with the customer charging post thingy, I got a general protection fault and had to reset my PC. Then I got the same fault without the customer charging post.

I re-downloaded and re-installed the files, now the sims game just locks up and I have to do a reset. I'd love to be able to report this to Paladin.

Thanks Blue, though I'm now suspecting it's the XVid codec - I found this line in the readme:

- {core}: Fixed potential crash on AMD64/EMT64 architecture.

Maybe they didn't fix it.

I'll email Paladin anyway.

Maybe they broke it worse...

Yeah. Haven't heard from Paladin, don't know if it's worth contacting the XVid people.

I had a whole family set up to run this video parlour, as a kind of 'youth in trouble outreach' approach. Turned out useless as a business anyway, even using the electronic ticket machine the customers never got any loyalty points so I had to build a cafeteria upstairs.

I just found out about this post today. That email address is currently out of service until I get the pop account attached to my domain working again.

So if I am understanding this thread correctly, the arcade machines themselves are causing a general protection fault when a sim actually uses them? If that is the case, I would definitely blame the xvid codec. I am uncertain if this is an AMD related issue as all of my test machines have Intel CPUs.

On one of my older machines, I had a bad codec once (not xvid). Whenever I tried to play a video that required that codec, the entire machine would sieze up. The solution was to remove the codec completely and then reinstall it after a reboot. In my case the codec itself had become corrupted somehow.

Arcades in general are hard businesses to gain stars (and business levels) with. One thing that helps is to have the business owner engage the customers in social interactions. It takes about 5 or 6 good social interactions in a row to gain one star. As you have already figured out, having some kind of snack bar helps any entertainment venue gain stars.

The DivX people reupdated just the other day with a stabilised codec set because their last one was buggy....

Thanks, yes, that is correct. I did try re-installing the codec, I didn't try re-downloading it.

Subsequent to removing your arcade machines, at least until I sort xvid out, my ordinary arcade machines are flashing blue with no vids now. :-/

Such a pity, I think your arcade collection is very awesome, you must have spent many hours creating those.

And yes, the business is doing fine with the cafe upstairs. The socialising is great for my popularity sim couple, now they can afford some staff.

Yeehar Metalkatt! Ta for headsup.

Any kind of business which relies on stars magically appearing out of thin air is going to be hard to gain stars in. The easiest way to gain stars is by "farming" them. Simply tag any object "for sale" and price it beyond ridiculously expensive, then hammer anyone who looks at it with hard sell over and over, or dazzle if you are a robot. Then when they max out, tell them to leave and repeat with someone else. Easy star farming.

The important thing is that the object must be priced to not sell no matter what you do, so you can keep farming them.

Easy star farmingTM

I have to say, I would never have thought of that! Brilliant idea. To fit with my youth outreach scenario, I could get a guru picture/icon or something and make that the focal point of sale.

I have found that the bubble blowers are good for gaining loyalty stars, especially when multiple sims are using them. When the sims get high enough, the stars begin flying. :D

Edited for misspelling.

I did that once. Ridculously boring. At least with a hot tub, the sims will talk and develop a relationship.

True that. It's always bugged me that the sims using the bubble blower together don't form relationships, even though their social motive goes up. Hot tubs also help with sims who are attracted to swimwear.

a propos of nothing - I really like the upgradeable/fixable computer on simwardrobe  :)  Great idea! - it makes a bit too much money for my liking, but then I like my sims to work hard and still stay broke!  I also like that tutorial on cleaning up the sims and fixing the swap file.  It helped me and I've pointed a couple of people at it from the old Sims board.

In general, I like all of Paladin's stuff, and find his hacked objects to be quite innovative and useful; however, I've had problems with his playable maid controller. The maid gets stuck in a shower-cleaning loop, like how the regular maids used to get stuck cleaning the fishtank over and over again. I've had to stop using it. :(

This can arguably be a point in FAVOR of the bubble blower, when you don't *WANT* sims forming a million unsolicited relationships that add to your upkeep overhead.

I seem to be banned from N99, despite not having said anything between the last time I was able to access the place and the time I went there and found I had been banned. Oh, well, it's a silly place anyway.

Oh!  Sorry I didn't know that.

you know I seldom say stuff about any site but you are quite right.  I have quit the place two or three times because they would delete one of my posts or threaten to, even though others would say the same thing and nobody would say anthing to them.  They are kinda weird and have tese little clicks going on.  So, I mostly just visit and keep quiet.    WEIRDOS they are.   ::)

sorry for ranting and raving but I know I can be myself here and not get banned.  This place rocks.     :-*

well I don't want to go on and on about this topic but I do have one more thing to say.  It is nice to know that I am not the only one being snubbed over there, if they snub  important people like you and JM then I am  in good company.

This is funny,  I tried to fit in over there but I have come to the conclusion that you cannot fit a round peg into a square hole.    rofl

We are the pegs and they are the squares.    ;)

There you have your answer, if you have any doubt you can be sure that it wonīt pass  ;)

The rules is strict (sp?) but I like it there anyway ... there is plenty of other forums where you can go crazy if you want to ... itīs nice to have at least one forum, where you wonīt get a knife in your back  ::)

Anyway ... Kiri at Simthing for Everyone seems to have a good contact to James, so if you are in a desperate need of getting in contact with him, I do not think that she would mind notify him. She is a very kind and helpful person.

Here is Kiriīs HP http://www.simthing.net/

Apparently, doing absolutely nothing doesn't pass either. I didn't *DO* anything to be banned, I was just perfectly fine and unbanned one day and next week, banned for no apparent reason. yay. Nevermind that it's pointless since it's trivial to evade bans. If anything, their absolutely nauseating atmosphere keeps me away better than bans do.

You created a site which shares pay files and N99 is very pro pay sites so you were bound to be banned. It doesn't matter if you never posted a link or even mentioned that you are the dreadful file sharing pirate. I'll bet that some pay site owner(s) got pissy and told Barb it's either him or me/us...poof you were banned.
