1  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: giving birth FUBAR'ed on: 2008 December 24, 17:29:17
I forced my sim to give birth using the insimenator without the spectral assistant present in order to test things. Everything was fine! *whew* I thought my game explodieren.

Incidentally, this test birth was the first time I ever got triplets with the triplets and quads hack. Life is sadorandom. I exited without saving.

I wonder if anyone has had similar problems with the spectral assistant, and if it warrants some sort of fix.

BTW, the spectral assistant is a DUDE. Whenever he/she bitches that there is something in his her its way, it uses the male voice. Also, I've caught it playing the piano.

For the lulz:

So, I've been playing with debug mode always on lately, and the last time my sim tried to give birth, there was an error right as the game went to play the cinematic:

My cursor was gone, and I thought I was screwed. But by clicking randomly on the screen, I managed to reset. After the movie played, I got no option to name the baby, the mom still looked pregnant, and build/buy mode were disabled. The baby was not selectable ( I mean I could not click on here to have the mother pick her up). If only I had had the lot debugger on the lot I could have reenabled controls. It's just kind of ugly so I just buy it as needed. I'm a fool, I know. I quit without saving.
Upon re-entering the lot, my sim went and gave birth again and this time I did not have debug mode on. The cinematic played (it was kind of messed up though), but then after the baby was born once again I got no option to name the baby, the mom still looked pregnant, build/buy mode were disabled and the baby was not selectable. This time I was ready. I reenabled controls and deleted the baby with moveobjects, saved, exited, returned, and the baby was by the mailbox, right as rain. I renamed her with TJ's sim blender. To fix mom's false pregnancy, I repollenated her Wink

So, why is this happening? I have the error log from the first time. Because the error involved the spectral assistant, I wonder if she is the culprit.

Thanks for your help. Sorry it was such a tale.

Though i abhor posting as much as I have been lately, I feel the need to note something I have found that may be useful to those that have the problems we have been discussing:
http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=293562

The "book of talent" allows a sim to learn a gesture or dance by studying. I haven't tested it yet; I will report back.

just to be perfectly clear, we are talking about richief's fix of the townie gun in peasantry here:

http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,13121.0.html right?

It gives the correct tokens? Do I still spawn it in debug mode, or is it buyable?

On an unrelated note, whenever I hear the phrase "townie gun" I think of The Clash song "Tommy Gun"

I made some custom asian locals and made them locals using Inge's cat shaped teleporter. When my sims went on vacation, the locals never bowed. I forced them to selectableness, and they did not have to option to bow or do tai chi. In simPE, I compared them with some locals from a neighborhood made before I knew about clean templates, and they are missing the tai-chi and bow tokens. Do you think it is safe to add these tokens in manually with simpe, if I make them exactly like the tokens the non-custom locals have? Should I add in the strings of numbers under "raw data" in the tokens section? Is there a safer way to do this? In simpe, I mostly look and never touch because I am an idiot. The most complex thing I do is geneticize eyes.

Looking over the error log myself, I think I know what the problem is. I have a hack by dumb fool at MTS2 so the taxi charges money. I guess it sucks. Damn, I really wanted the taxi to charge money liike it did in TS1. I should have checked this before posting I guess, but I looked at the error log (the first time I ever looked at one) and was like "OH LORD DELIVER ME"
I will investigate to see if this is the culprit.
I'm beginning to realize I cannot trust the non-awesome.

Edit: Removiing those hacks fixed the problem.

My sims just got married, and I was waiting for their taxi to arrive to take them on their honeymoon. I waited and waited, and nothing happened. I suspected errors, so I went into debug mode, and I got some error involving the taxi: "bad gosub tree number". I reset it over and over again. I hoped the batbox could save me--nothing seemed applicable. I finally clicked delete. The taxi did not try to come after that. I quit and here we are.

I've had the Human Statue come up as one of the people you can chat with on the internet on my sim's computer. If my sim actually chatted with him, would it blow up my game? Is there any way of preventing object-like people from doing these kinds of things?

Update:
I made a fresh hood, plopped an EA-made apt lot in it and moved the Picasos in or whatever, gave them some furniture, saved and exited. When I came back, everything was fine. So at least it is possible for me to play AL, even if it's not with my current sims.
I guess it's goodbye to my neighborhood, Vandalia.

I seriously hate EA for allowing me to blow up my game with regular game play. If there is a feature such as moving an occupied lot to the bin, the average non-awesome person like me thinks its ok.
I'd like to thank you all for helping me out. I guess I shall clone my favorite sims. I'll begin looking for a tutorial but if anyone feels like giving me a link that would be much appreciated.

Alll of these issues involving "sims that vanish" and stuff like this sound like "incomplete save" issues, where for some reason the game is not able to properly write part of your save data, resulting in dangling character files and failure to save lot state. Make sure you are not doing anything dumb, like trying to play the game with SimPE holding your neighborhood open. For some reason SimPE is stupid and locks all the files.
No, i don't have simpe open.

Could it be that I move this family into this neighborhood from another neighborhood by moving their lot to occupied lots bin? *hangs head in shame* I just didn't know better at the time. This was before AL, and I've been playing with them for a while no problem before that.

Is the whole neighborhood going to burst into flames eventually? can they be saved?

Just to clarify...

You took out everything and tried a different family to see if it worked? Did you try the broken family with no downloads in?
I think that when i got it to work it was with a different family.
If you're concerned that the neighborhood is causing the problem, try setting up an apartment in a fresh custom hood.

I'll try it. I'm going to try a whole different neighborhood with a fresh family and see if apts work there.

Hello. This is my first post; I have read the FAQ. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks.

What happens is this:
I move in one of my cute little families into an apartment, rent one, play for a while, then save and quit. When I come back later, all of their furniture disappears and the door says "vacant". They are still doing what ever they were doing when they left, sitting on invisible chairs, playing with invisible xylophones, ect. So I exit without saving.

I dragged my downloads folder to the desktop and tried playing. I moved someone in, rented an apartment, saved and went to the neighborhood, and when I came back behold! They still had their stuff. Hallelujah.

So I decided that maybe I had some outdated hacks or something. So I went to ffs/al/hacks/ and picked out some of my favorites, put them in a new downloads folder.  Now my only hacks are ffs.
I tried to play my favorite family and they were "evicted" again.

I figure that one of these things is going on:
1) One of the ffs hacks is messing it up (please don't hurt me)
2) something to do with exiting the game and reentering it mess things up, because when I got it to work, I only went to the neighoboorhood screen.
3) My game is fucked because I am stupid, I've done stupid things before I new better like deleting people from the sim bin and other things the EvilAxis lets you believe is ok but really isn't...

What should I do? Thank you for your help.
