Adding study options to bookcases
« on: 2007 April 01, 04:52:28 »
THANKS THIS IS GREAT

So... now that i've gained some confidence editing objects so they work better in the game, i thought i'd try to add some extra options to a few objects...   Shocked

I thought this might be an easy one to work on.... adding extra study options to inge's sensible bookcase's.

What I did was add an extra BHAV for each skill... added pie string for each BHAV and added an interaction for each skill i added.

Of course, things are never that easy. I got the error "Hit Break Point Primitive". Is it because simmies normally can't study these skills from the bookcase? Would I need some global mod to be able to study extra skills from the bookcase? I remember trying one a while ago that allowed studying all skills from the bookcase but it screwed up inge's bookcases and i like the idea of simmies autonomously studying skills based on personality. Should i start off with something even easier? Am i asking the impossible?

edit: 100th post...yay!!

There's a bookcase on MTS2 that has all the skills, so you could crack that open and see how it was done.

Thanks SaraMK.. I didn't know there was one around... I'll take a look

edit: Unfortunately, that's the global mod that i had before...  Sad  The title of the thread on MTS2 is a little misleading...

I gave the global hack a shot again with my modified bookcase and still get the same error... I can direct the simmie to use a regular bookcase and study any skill but not the modified ones....

I just like the idea of sims studying skills autonomously... I'm going to keep plowing away on this...

It's not quite as simple as normal objects. Bookcases push interactions with books onto sims, and what you're probably running into is a missing interaction index for the book. So I guess what you need is a custom book to go with your custom bookcase.
