Read the Fucking Manual is what RTFM means.

P.S.  Could your signature *be* any bigger?  ;)

Shouldn't this be in Retardo Land?

Well at least I know I got it right.  I never knew what it meant either, I worked it out purely from guesswork.  The fact that I did so and did so correctly just adds even more evidence (as if I needed more) to prove that I really am a genius.  And no, I'm not joking, I really mean it.

It can also mean "Read The Frickin' Manual" for a cleaner version.

And yes, you are a genius, Ancient Sim. ;)

For some reason, even though I know what it really stands for, I always think it means "Read this first, moron." Still, it's the same sentiment.

Yeah. It's probably a better translation as far as message boards go actually.

If one is trying to be rude, or simply show the end user that they are pointless without calling names, they would use the expletive.
However, the F in some cases can be interpreted as "Friendly" thus removing the offensive verb/expletive.  :P

RTFM
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Jump to: navigation, search

RTFM is an initialism for the statement "Read The Fucking Manual". This instruction is usually given in response to a question which the responder knows or believes can be answered easily by reading relevant documentation, and suggests that the inquirer may be wasting people's time.

In computer technical support it also commonly refers to "Reboot The Fucking Machine," an aptly prescribed first line of troubleshooting that has been widely recognized to solve a great majority of computer problems. It implies exasperation at minimal problem-solving initiative.

To avoid the use of the expletive "fucking" in the statement (which is offensive to some people), the "F" is often translated to another adjective, such as "Freaking", "Full", "Fine", "Friendly", "Fabulous", or "Fascinating". Alternatively, the "F" can be dropped entirely and the initialism rendered as "RTM" (Read The Manual).

We need an acronym for annoying people who likes to insert quotes from the wikipedia :)

Humph...... this is typical, management are never willing to hold themselves accountable, c'mon now, you started with the chocolate.  It is true that I didn't have to eat it or add the cream.  However, your blatant advertising obvioulsy warped my already feeble and bewildered brain and as such, I'm currently on the phone to my lawyer........  see you at the tribunal  ;)

You need to learn how to quote.  ;)

I was advertising nothing, and it's not my fault if you have a feeble and bewildered brain...you should blame your parents for that one.   :P

Unfortunately, I only have myself to blame and must take full responsibility for the brain situation as I gave up blaming my parents a very long time ago :D.  And no I can't quote yet, thanks so much for mentioning it ;)

Well, even though I'm long out of the parents influence or responsibility, I still like to blame them for anything I can get away with.  ;)

Along with PEBCAC this is an abbrevation I utelized a lot when I worked in Tech Support.

It's not many jobs you have to press the mute button on the phone and bang your head against the desk while actually chanting: "STFU! STFU! STFU!" just to stay sane.

PEBCAC: Problem Exists Between Computer And Chair, or PEBKAC: Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair.

I find (Seinfeld) Kramer's  "serenity now!" chant most helpful.  But keyboard smashing is good too.
