I was incredibly annoyed at my sim constantly demanding every musical instrument there is, so I started fantazising about making a musical instrument that my sim would accept as being both a piano, guitar, bass and drumkit. Looking into it, I realized that it couldn't really be done that way. And then I thought about how annoying the want for the bubbleblower is, and thought about making a sculpture that looked like a bubbleblower, but only took up one square and didn't have interactions. And then I thought I could do both this way! I studied the "want category" in SimPe, and made a bunch of paintings that uses the "want ID" from the various musical instruments, but still is just a painting. The paintings are supposed to depict a guy buying musical instruments, but it really just look silly, but the effect remains; you get a cheap and small item, and your sim will never nag you again. The bowling paintingis a variation of a "golden dartboard" I made a while ago to fulfill the "by a game costing at least §5500" want, without buying a freaky huge bowling alley. The stereo painting is the same, but aimed at the stupid DJ booth. More paintings here: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=122834[404'ed!]

This is a really great idea! Thanks so much I didn't want to actually block the wants because of the aspiration points you get with them! *downloads*

I'd actually love to have the golden dartboard too, if you don't mind posting.

http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=110130It isn't actually gold textured. It was my original plan, but I grew bored before I got that far. I'll make an actual texture for it later today. Edit: OK, I'm surfing on a creative craze right now. (sort of) Golden texture added.

Who said they were silly? The original four or five weren't too silly. But now there are 20 of them. And I think I might have to make a bar painting...

How about flower pad and shrub paintings for those Fortune Sims?

How about flower pad and shrub paintings for those Fortune Sims? I did consider it. But buying one shrub doesn't prevent the sim reom re-rolling the "buy a shrub" compulsion. And since you have to buy it multiple times, you might as well buy the shrub as a painting. Same goes for "counters costing at least §600" and "sofa or loveseat costing at least §900" and all the other crap Fortune sims are so obsessed with. I figured I'd go crazy if I made them all, so I settled for the ones you only need to buy once (given that you buy the expensive one).

Ahh, I see. I can visualize my Fortune sims with a whole gallery of paintings of shrubs . And that's the second reason: I'd rather have people hate shrubs, than hate my paintings. I once tried giving in to a Fortune Sim every time he wanted something. He lived on a HUGE lot, but I still ran out of garden for all his trees and shrubs.

I use TwoJeffs want hacks to kill the want spam for shrubs and stuff but I like the idea of your paintings and will check them for stuff my hacks don't cover

I was quite amused by Dina Caliente in my new Pleasantview. While she was still living with Nina, she was asking to buy a car worth over $2,000 I think it was. As soon as she married Mortimer, the want re-rolled and was replaced by the desire to buy a car worth over $11,500. He's dead now and she's got her sights set on Alexander, who for some reason she developed 3 bolts for once he grew-up and went to Uni. No way is that woman going to leave the Goth mansion without a fight!

I don't think sims normally roll wants for things they can't afford. I'm studying a couple of wealth sims to see what levels their buy urges are, so I don't overprice my paintings. I made two car paintings, one at §120 which will settle most sims urge to buy any car, and one at §12000, to satisfy wealth sims. But I'm not sure even wealth sims are that greedy.

Mine do, but usually only for the small things. They'll get wants for any ol' painting, when they've got §2 in the pot, stuff like that. These paintings of yours are a little bit of genius, swiftly approaching awesomeness. (Will I get smacked if I say THANK YOU?)

I just want to say, your idea was truly inspired. Every once in a while someone just completely amazes me with their creative thinking, and this is one of those times. I think it's brilliant.
