26  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Indie Stone Now with added Awesomeness on: 2009 July 20, 22:22:39
I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the buggedness thread, so apologies if I guessed wrong.  I'm having some problems getting both mods to work.

Background:  I had a saved game that I was playing with AM, everything worked fine.  This weekend, I switched to Indie and everything still worked fine.  Today I installed the 7-20-09 21:51:26 AwesomeMod and the ISM from the link on page 1.  I then went an updated my aweconf.package using the More Stupid Than You website.  These are the values in my aweconf.package (with extraneous stuff removed for ease of reading):

    <RoboticHandOfGod value="True">
    <NoNudityCensorM value="True">
    <NoNudityCensorF value="True">
    <SupremeCommander value="True">
    <NoPsychicCurfewPolice value="True">
    <NPCWorkUniformRemovalChance value="50">
    <MarriagePostMortem value="True">
    <TestingCheatsEnabled value="True">
    <EnableDebugCommands value="True">
    <EnableDebugInteractions value="True">
    <InformOnStoryAction value="True">
    <AllowOverstuffedHouses value="True">
    <CASSliderScaleIncreased value="True">
    <AwesomeDebug value="True">

Problem: When I load the game, it doesn't seem to be reading my awesome.conf package anymore.  I know awesome mod is working because I can do "showconfig" and I can manually flip the values that are wrong.  However, I can't seem to get the ISM options to come up on the phone no matter what I do (I've set the ISM config to "true").

As you can see from the screenshot, there are other values that are not matching my awesome.conf package (Hand of God, Nudity Censors).

Ignore me, I are fail today.  I downloaded the correct ISM file, I just didn't install it.

Count me in for wanting to sign up as well.  It's very irritating seeing created sims move away.
Check the downloads section.
28  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 03, 14:27:29
Might I suggest cracking your case open and blasting a can of air through your PC? No matter how clean you keep your desk, dust will still clogs up the works. Dust in vents = substandard cooling for your PC. All my card over heating problems have been fixed this way.
Done (my case is pretty much always left open and I clean it every few days).  I don't think it's an overheating problem at this point.
29  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 03, 14:15:45
I have now installed the legal copy and it does seem to play smoother than the Reloaded version.  My video card is running a cooler temperatures consistently now.  However, I'm still having problems with the game randomly closing (no error message, it just disappears) and it's not due to overheating.  My CPU is consistently between 30-35 degrees while playing and the video card was at 66 and 71 degrees the two times it closed this morning.
30  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: TS3 Store - this thread is for DOWNLOADS ONLY. Your inane comments go elsewhere! on: 2009 June 02, 23:47:29
There seems to be some confusion regarding the steps you need to take to install content from the store.  The answers are spread out over a few posts, so I thought I would make 1 post to consolidate them.  Below is a step by step walkthrough of what I've been doing (note: I have installed a legal copy, but this seems to be working people with the RZR version as well).  If you are having problems, I hope this helps.

How to install custom content
  • 1.  Download the file.  It will probably be a .zip or .rar file, but it could be a .Sims3Pack file as well.
  • 2.  Is it a .Sims3Pack file?  If yes, skip this step and go to #3.  If no, unzip the file (using 7zip, winrar, etc.) and extract the .Sims3Pack file(s) to someplace you can find again.
  • 3.  Launch Compressorizor Redux (http://forum.jfade.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=468) and click on the "Add Files to List" button in the lower left hand.  Browse to the file where you extracted the .Sims3Pack file(s)  (note: some files have already been through this tool before they were uploaded, but it doesn't hurt to do it again if you are not sure).
  • 4.  Click the "Go" button in the middle bottom.  Some windows will flash up and disappear.  You will get a pop up box saying that the operation was successful.  Click OK.
  • 5.  Is the .Sims3Pack a Patterns, Lots, Households and Sims?  If yes, install using the 3Viewer http://forum.jfade.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=466 and you're done, I think (I haven't done this yet, so I have no further details on it).  If no, go to step #6.
  • 6.  Double click on the .Sims3Pack, the Sims 3 Launcher will run and you will see your .Sims3Pack listed as a new item in the download section.  A second window, the installer, will pop up and if everything works, will give you a Success! message.  Click okay and you're done.  I'm blocking the launcher from phoning home and everything is still installing correctly, I'm not sure what happens if you don't block it.
  • 7.  You can delete/move the .Sims3Pack files in the Downloads folder in your "My Documents" folder and you can delete all files from the DCBackup file without removing the CC you just installed.

Also, AFAIK the Tiki set and Riverview does not seem to be working for anyone that is trying to install them without offiically getting them from the store. This is fixed now, but the .exe's still aren't compiled for Macs.
31  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: No censor hack for TS3 on: 2009 June 02, 20:40:57
I grabbed the hack here, by CyberOps.  Is there any reason it wouldn't work well with the "official" Roll Eyes hard copy of TS3?
It works with my "official" (minus smiley) hard copy of TS3.
32  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: might be helpfull ? or not ? frame rate limiter on: 2009 May 31, 23:12:20
When this thread inevitably gets moved to RL, can someone keep the original post here?  The FPS Limiter has actually been very useful on my ATI card, crash-prone computer and I'm sure others like me would appreciate the link.  Maybe that post should be moved to the technical problems thread instead.

Couple of notes about the FPS Limiter:
-  The useful part of the readme is in German, making it slightly less helpful.
-  My computer was consistently running at 78-82°C and crashing every few hours; after changing the FPS to 30 with the FPS Limiter, it is now running 5-10 degrees cooler and I haven't had a crash to desktop yet.

34  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 25, 12:39:58
Isn't the home lot icon in green?
It's not my home lot I'm having problems finding, it's the home lots of sims I've kicked out.  You have to click on each occupied home to see a picture of the occupants, or go to the "split household" screen to see the names.  This is a total pain in the ass when you are looking for someone.
35  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 24, 23:07:32
The thing that scares me about this is that even though I'm like you and I'm okay with focusing just on one household, even switching over to another household (to check in on new developments) for just a few Sim hours, even less, could result in me returning to my main household to see that they've moved out, died, adopted 60 ugly babies, etc. I do not want this.
So far the moving out and random dead-age hasn't happened to me and I've been playing for about 150 sim days.  All of my sims are accounted for or have died of old age (although I can't find the headstone for one that died while I was away).  The ugle babies and/or unexpected pregnancies when you return are a given and happen pretty frequently.  Some of my ugly sims that have been kicked out have merged themselves in to other households, which makes it a pain in the ass to find them later.

Also - there's something up with one of my sims refusing to die. I'm playing on normal speed (life is 90 days) and some ugly husband is now 104.  I want him TO DIE ALREADY!
36  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 24, 14:51:31
My thoughts and impressions after playing the game for 1-2 hours/day for 5 days...

Good
 - I like the CAST system.  It's intuitive and makes it easy to have a room with matching decor.
 - The sims are smarter in that they will actually work toward goals autonomously.  For instance, if I have promised them that they will increase their athletic ability, they'll actually go and exercise without me telling them to.  That's not the best example since TS2 sims would exercise autonomously, but I'm too lazy to think of a better example.
 - I really like the traits, it's easier to have sims with likes and preferences and uniqueness.
 - Other than the sims themselves, it's perty.
 - The houses are laid out much better than Maxis houses usually are.  I don't feel the need to tear down every house and build my own just so that my sims can get from point A to point B without walking some stupid ass route.
 - Children are less annoying because you can send them out into the neighborhood alone and basically ignore them.
 - There's a lot more to do.  Some have listed this as a bad thing, because it does take so much time to keep needs met, have a job and get a love interest - but I like that I have to actually decide what to focus on for a particular sim.  It won't be as easy to max out all skills, have 100 friends and 50 lovers while raising a family of 8.
 - The jobs are better.  Others have commented and I agree with them on pretty much everything.
 - Kids autonomously do their homework AND they keep it in their inventory, so no more games of "where's the homework".

Bad
 - The sims are so ugly, especially ones born in game.  I normally kill ugly sims on general principle, but there are so many I don't think it's possible.
 - My game crashing to the desktop.  I've updated my drivers and reinstalled, but no dice.
 - I really hate the neighborhood screen and the way that you have to go to certain places to be able to do things there.  For instance, you can get a part time job at the cemetary, but on the neighborhood screen, if you filter by jobs, the cemetary doesn't have an icon.  WTF?  Also, I need a cheatsheet of what you can do at each location.  I can't remember where to go for a cooking class, so I spend 15 minutes clicking every little frickin icon...grr.  Same thing with trying to figure out where your sims live.  They need a text/list based way to do what you can do from the neighborhood screen.
 - Kicking sims out.  Apparently, they can move into *any* open lot, even one that they can't afford.
 - The newspaper.  I have 2 issues with it: 1.) if I have to read the goddamn thing every day to find out if someone I care about died/moved/had a baby, make it more like the SimCity ticker or a icon on the toolbar that I can access without needing my sims and 2.) list the mother and father's full names for baby birthing.
 - Babies and toddlers take forever to grow up.  I know that I can speed this up with a cake, but it still annoying.  Also, there's nothing to do with them for the most part.
 - The clock is weird.  At first it was really, really slow - even at 3.  I updated my drivers and it doesn't seem as slow any more, but now it'll randomly go into super, turbo mode and 1/2 the day will be gone in 12 seconds.
 - Random babies with no mother/father.  This has been commented on as well, but it is super annoying to switch to a sim who was previously a bachelor to find him suddenly with a baby girl that does not appear to have a mother.  Did he adopt her?  Was she left on his doorstep?  Did he somehow clone himself?  These things matter.

Other
 - I'm playing with story progression enabled and free will on high (on purpose).  I tend to only like one sim at a time, so TS3 actually fits my playing style very well.  Mom and Dad have 3 kids, two are satanically ugly and one is less so.  I kick out the two and continue to play the one I like.  Later, I zoom out to the neighborhood and see that Ugly #1 has gotten married and had a kid, I switch to his house and to see what's up, while I provide a little god-like advice to his life.  I like this and appreciate the variety and surpise; what I don't like is that I don't know what the hell happened between the time I kicked him out and the time I started playing him again.  Did he have a different girlfriend?  Does he have other children?  I don't need a full memory of every single person he met and everyone he knows that got an A+, but I would like a short summary of major events tracked in his life.
 - I really want to control what last name babies and husband/wives take.

Edited to add:
 - A new annoyance is that if you change someone's hair and then switch to a different household, their hair switches back to their "genetic" hair.

Would be interested in seeing dxdiags from people who are having crash-to-desktop, but that would probably take us outside the intended usage of this forum.

I have some of those, where do I look to find them?

I found the AP story. link
The article keeps referencing June 3rd as the release date - isn't it June 2nd in the US?

I think I found a bug.  I was playing one household that had 3 children in it, then I switched to playing a different household.  When I switched back to the first household, it was time for all 3 of the children to grow up (1 to adult, 2 to teens).  Apparently when you don't babysit your family, the children's grades tank which means that you don't get to pick their traits on their birthday.  So I aged up all three children and their new trait was randomly picked.  All three of them ended up with the "artistic" trait, which is alphabetically the first trait.
41  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 May 22, 12:18:33
I, of course, am experiencing technical problems when trying to play the game.  This isn't overly surprising since I think my computer is infected with an evil spirit and has technical problems with everything.  I'm on Windows Vista, Intel Duo Core E6850 @3.00GB, 4GB of Ram with an Radeon 3800 series video card, so my computer more than meets the minimum specs.  I play in windowed mode and don't have Norton.

My problem began a couple days ago when I was building a new home for my sim family.  After spending 45 minutes and 2 years' worth of patience, I finally got to the point of putting the final touches on and the game suddenly closed.  No error message, no computer crash, the game just closed.  I tried restarting the game and it wouldn't load - it would start to load and then immediately close.  So I rebooted, had a few drinks, and tried again.  This time the game loaded, but I had no graphics other than the cursor arrow pointer.  The music was going and everything seemed to be working, but my screen was black.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled the game and everything worked fine graphics wise.  But now, I'm experiencing random game closing on more regular intervals.  Sometimes I can play for an hour with no problems, other times every 2 minutes the game shuts itself down.

This behavior most closely reminds me of how TS2 acted when I was infected with Securom, but that doesn't seem possible with a torrented version.

It could be my computer, I've only got a gig of RAM and am running Vista, but it's not lagging or skipping or indicating in any other way that it's my PC speed causing the problem.  I just have most of the graphics settings on medium.  HALP
I'm having the same issue, and I have 4GB of RAM and my game is showing no other signs of lagging with all graphic settings on high.  Speeds 2 and 3 are exactly the same as speed 1 for me.

I also have Vista (4GB) and the game clock runs extremely slow for me at all speeds.

Has anyone figured out a way to get a lot of groceries into the fridge quickly?
44  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 20, 11:44:36
I've only played the game for about 1-2 hours, but I have a few annoyances.  I miss finding out information about my sim - like how fat are they on the fat scale?  Also, I have no clue how long pregnancies last or how to tell if mine is almost done.  Maybe there are icons or buttons that I'm missing somewhere (God knows there are enough of them), but it just seems like there is less info overall.  Also, babies need a lot more attention and stay babies for 3 days and toddlers for 6 - ick.

Too bad there isn't a prima guide that was also leaked.

Not strangetown - it's a custom hood.  I've tried deleting my sim #1 via SimPE, and then I get the same error for sim #2 and so on and so forth until I hit #8 and gave up.  I restored from a backup so that I'm getting the error on #1 again.  The entire error is below, if it's any help.

When I open it in SimPE I get the following error.  Other than the error, everything appears to work fine.

Every time I try to load one of my neighborhoods, I get the "This application has crashed" message.  I've taken out all of my downloads and the same thing still happens.  I don't have Securom.  I can load other neighborhoods without any problems.  Any suggestions for recovering the neighborhood or at least all of my simmies in it?

The most randomly borked thing I've noticed is that non controlled sims are now obsessed with skunks.  There's a townie or apartment sims getting sprayed at least every other hour suddenly.  Seriously - back away from the skunk already.

Access and I are having fights now. I am not liking 2007, and apparently forgot half of database creation. But it's a fun challenge, and once I have this database set up I'll be able to use the format for future 'hoods.
If you want, I could post an empty version of mine this weekend.  I'm in 2007 as well, so it should work.
