There's a program called CCleaner that gets rid of outdated registry entries of all sorts of crap you once installed, then uninstalled. You could try that. As usual, be sure to backup the registry before use.

I've been lurking here for some time, and I've always been curious about these graphic cards horror stories.

I have a custom rig (which I nagged my dad to build) that's over 2-3 years old with Windows XP, Pentium 4 3.00 GHZ, 1GB RAM and Radeon 9600. It has always run like a dream with Uni/NL/OPB/Seasons and BV (no Petz -*I bite my thumb at thee, Petz!*). Everything's been gravy; I'm guessing it's because I have the habit of removing crap, even though I have 3 of 5 Orange Box games installed and two MMORPGs.

However, with Sims 3 coming, I fear I may need a new graphic card soon. (And a third hard-disk... running out of real estate too). Is the Radeon 9600 good enough or is it time to update? No FT at the time, lack of disk space and too many scary bugs dissuade me.

Educate me, MATY. Am I being paranoid or are my specs good enough?

Funny, I don't remember James Bond cleaning up the pools of blood after the unfortunate encounters with the baddies.

Never had Petz, for which I am forever thankful. Unleashed was the worst thing that ever happened to me back at Sims 1. Still, I did the BV patch, updated my hacks and everything's working out ok. I may never get FT; too broken and my comp has enough garbage as it is.

Yes, BVp2 is safe, just install it right before you install FT. FT is Awesomized...you didn't know?

I know there are bugs still getting worked out. I think I'll wait a few weeks. I suspect that EAMaxis is cooking up a patch already, because if I'm interpreting the FT bug thread correctly, there's some serious shit going on.
81  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Seeking a learned opinion... on: 2008 March 06, 23:34:01
Speaking of updates, is it finally save to install the second BV patch? That is, the latest one that doesn't come with Free Time? I have no intention of arring FT until it has been awesomized, but I'm curious about the patch. My game has always run pretty well, but I'm getting paranoid in my neighborhood's old age (4th gen and counting.)
82  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I Broke a Bunch of Crap on: 2008 March 01, 22:39:34
Ooh, I did not know that. Never had any problems, but then again, my downloads are 350mb or so, not as big as some folks' at MATY.
83  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I Broke a Bunch of Crap on: 2008 March 01, 20:47:02
However, Delphy's Download Organizer DOES check for duplicates, if I'm not mistaken. Try that one instead.

I tried replacing the thumbnail and the reia files with the copies that gynarchy graciously provided me, but it didn't work. I'm guessing the problem requires knowledge in the dark arts that I don't posses.

Still, if it doesn't affect gameplay, I guess I should just grin and bear it. We'll know for sure if the game eventually goes belly-up or coughs up pea soup.

Further suggestions? If not, thanks anyway for the advice.
85  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Game acting evil, user scared on: 2008 March 01, 04:49:36
Here's the thing... I did check and still have the proper thumbnail and the reia files. That is, the thumbnail never left, and I copypasted an old reia file from a previous backup and switched it with the probably-corrupt newer one. No dice.

Still, I'll PM. Maybe the reai has always been borked. (I DID notice one was bigger than the other, if that means anything to you.)

And still thinking about it, if you say your files are large, something has to be wonky with mine, because they're rather small.

Goddamn you, EAMaxis! Why must you suck so hard?

A few days ago, I decided my sims need to colonize my always-ignored Bluewater, because Pleasantview is fucking ugly and my main digs, Downtown, are getting boring.

First, I made a back-up of my game with SimPE. That is, I thought I could just backup Bluewater, but SimPE called out my noob mistake and I just saved the whole game, as usual.

Next thing I know, THIS happens: http://bp3.blogger.com/_usV945r-K1c/R8imDEMJd3I/AAAAAAAAACQ/tXy9C5U3up0/s1600-h/weird2.JPG

 http://bp0.blogger.com/_usV945r-K1c/R8il5UMJd2I/AAAAAAAAACI/ZO3fMwMkOGg/s1600-h/weird1.JPG

And... I'm scared. Hold me?

Notice that it only happens with Pleasantview; everything else is fine, probably because I never play them. As for the game itself, it plays fine, which is even weirder. I believe that it has to do something with the reia file. Notice also that this happens to both the little 'flyby' video in the neighborhood chooser and the thumbnail when you pick the neighborhood (in this case, it should've been the shot with Mortimer with crossed arms and other Maxis sims in the background.)

Any idea if this is a VTB or something to put up with and mostly harmless?

87  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage launcher question on: 2008 February 07, 20:27:46
No, I don't really need the net while playing; in fact, I was mildly indifferent to allowing game to log on. I'll think I'll just firewall it and be done with it, I don't want to worry about weird stuff with EA. I had never allowed my games to log on because I used to have a 56k modem; it would've been internet suicide to allow it. Broadband made it too easy now.

I later figured out that the only way to create the shortcut was to unhook the Internet and THEN do the shortcut. Once the shortcut was created, however, the game started up, net or no net. Learn something new everyday, I guess.

Nevertheless, thanks for the help!
88  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Bon Voyage launcher question on: 2008 February 07, 00:48:26
Hey, long time lurker, rare poster here.

Thanks to the BV warnings, my own version fell off the back of a truck *cough* and works perfectly with a no-CD crack in all its SecuRom-free glory.

Thing is, the BV launcher thing remained. According to another thread, I can create a shortcut directly to the .exe and bypass the launcher altogether. The first time I tried that, it didn't work and got stuck with a black screen. Then I tried the shortcut again with no active Internet connection, and it worked perfectly.

My question is: should I keep playing with the launcher+live Internet, or should I just disable the net when I want to play without a launcher? Is there some EA dirty trick I should be aware off, or are both methods ok? Sure, disabling the net takes 5 seconds, but it seems to be an annoyance. Is there a VBT I should be aware of in either case?

Thanks in advance...

Hi, all. I'm something of a newbie Sims 2 player, but I have SimsPE, a bunch of hacks, and a problem with CB's penis.

When I make my male/male couple try to relax on a double bed, they chat for a few seconds and 'jump' out of bed. That never happened before I added the cock, so I removed it and woo-hoo worked just fine. I have a few hacks, I started adding and removing things back and forth, but I think its the cock or the owner, because I ran the debuger and this showed up, blaming one my Cid character:

That's the original mistake, before I removed anything. Of all the hacks, I think quazis censor and the Nude thing seem to be pertinent, but they both work fine regardless of the cock. I also deleted the bed and added another one. I forgot to check it this happened to het couples, but I'll get to it right now. I have Uni and NL, plan to the OFB one of these days.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is... HELP!?
