1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to get rid of SecuRom, NOW on: 2008 June 30, 18:44:09
i've never had to do that before, so i'll figure out how to do that and give it a try, thanks.

oh, well, that was nice and easy!  thanks again  Smiley
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to get rid of SecuRom, NOW on: 2008 June 30, 17:56:54
I think what's irritating me more than EA thinking SecuROM was a good idea is that it can't even install its shit right in the first place.  Example: I'm on Step 3 in the Tom's Hardware instructions.  I type in the command to remove user access.  The file, uaservice7.exe?  Not there.  But sure enough, cmdlineext.dll is, and I get an error when I try to do the "regsvr32 /u cmdlineext.dll" command.  I'm assuming it's not working because of uaservice7.exe magically not existing, but you know...assumptions.  To add more fun to the mystery, my SecuROM folder in Application Data is empty as well.

So I ask: can I trash cmdlineext.dll safely even though the "regsvr32 /u" command doesn't seem to work, or am I utterly screwed?

this doesn't appear to have been addressed by anyone and i am i the same situation.  my game runs fine with a nocd, and i have no securom registry entries, and uaservice7.exe does not exist, but cmdlineext.dll is there and regsvr32 /u command also doesn't work for me so i can't get rid of it.  can i just ignore cmdlineext.dll since my game runs fine, and my cd & dvd drives run fine, or is it still a problem i need to solve?  am i just failing when it comes to that command, should it work, why doesn't it work, am i retarded?
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Abandonated Mods Needing Updates for Free Time on: 2008 May 10, 03:55:04
is there any hope of someone updating jaxad0127's NoNPCRevert ??  now that Christianlov has updated his clothing rack it would be nice to go back to using those 2 hacks together, to keep NPC's in custom clothing, it was so easy and quick.

this hack doesn't need updating and works fine in bon voyage and freetime.  my game was seriously borked and that's why it wasn't working - game is fine now and the hack works as it should.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: BV: Anybody Updating These Abandoned Mods? on: 2007 September 13, 13:58:21
thanks to all for the personal reports on some of the hacks i listed!

ugh, you and me both Emma!  i hope someone will come up with a new hack to replace that one; i think a lot of people can't stand the regular maxis maternity wear and don't want to bother with extra meshes needed to cute up the pregnant sims.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: BV: Anybody Updating These Abandoned Mods? on: 2007 September 11, 22:26:57
here's my short list of abandoned hacks i hope to see updated for BV:

alwayswearcasualtowork
FirstKissEnabled
SitFloorToWatchTV (i think i saw somewhere that this doesn't conflict with bv)
PregnancyWearAnyOutfit
woohoonaked

Christianlov_SimBoutique_ClothingRack (it's worked with each ep, just doesn't have the new clothing options, ie "outdoors")

jaxad0127_NoNPCRevert  (has worked up to seasons, so maybe bv too, but wtf do i know? nuthin'!)
jaxad0127_NoNudeReact_WithStreaking
6  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: The Compressorizer! Mass DBPF Compressing Program on: 2007 May 28, 18:35:51
i'm amazed at how much compression some of my downloads will take, for instance a 9712 kb furniture object (a bed from avalon sims) compressed down to 519 kb.  about 50% of my files are compressing 50% or more. my 4esf folder compressed from 237 megs to 79 megs, whoa.  so after compressing everything in my downloads folder it went from 4.59 GB to 2.18 GB, and when i loaded my game it was just over 2 minutes faster than my usual 8 min load time.

i think i've found a conflict though, between it and Delphy's Download Organizer.  after compressing and running my game with no probs, i deleted a bunch of clothing files, and then when i exited my game i ran Delphy's program to locate the clothing meshes so i could delete them.  while it was scanning my downloads folder i got one of 2 different error messages on nearly every single file.  so that sucks, since Delphy's program is essential to me, i always end up with so many orphaned meshes and they're a drag on the game.

7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CRT or LCD???? on: 2006 August 04, 23:49:45
LCDs suffer from blurry graphics when anything moves

i must have a magical lcd monitor in that case.  i love lerve my monitor, the graphics are so much nicer, crisper, and prettier than my old crt produced - and there's no blur when things move, didn't even realize this was a problem with lcds at all.  i guess i spent a lot of money on mine, but it was well worth it.  plus now i have so much more space on my desk for, uhm, clutter.  heh.
8  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: TUTORIAL: Neighborhood Terrain Surgery on: 2006 August 02, 01:54:53
gah.  the difference between the flyby and the actual terrain of my neighborhood will slowly drive me batshitinsane. no mismatched wire hangers dammit !
9  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: TUTORIAL: Neighborhood Terrain Surgery on: 2006 August 01, 13:55:22
this worked perfectly for me, thanks J.M & Leeahna !

is it possible to change the menu neighborhood video/animation for pleasantview so it shows the new terrain ? i poked around all my game folders but can't find anything that seems related that i could fiddle with...
10  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 16, 22:09:25
yah, individually everything adde & showed up fine, but the batch was hit & miss - but it's working fine now, seems to be 100% perfect.  i figure it was my system, it was messy & i remembered windows crashed a few weeks ago & i hadn't bothered rebooting < / idiot > so i rebooted, did a big system clean up including the registry, defragged, then i deleted all my thumbnails & the groups.cache file.  when i made new collections this afternoon they turned out fine.
11  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 15, 02:32:07
i don't use simpe for anything other than recategorizing clothing so i don't know my way around it much - but the objects that aren't showing in the collections are definitely objects,  they work in the game and they show in collections i make in-game, just not with your prog.  opening a sample of them in simpe they have object data, object function, guids, original guids & fallback guids etc etc.  there's so many of them that there's no way i can list them all for you & figure out what sites they came from - no time for that unfortunately.  some of cashcraft's victorian objects are no-shows.  those are from tsr. but it's not just hers, there's many others.
12  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers Wanted: Sims 2 Collection Creator on: 2006 May 11, 14:06:45
this is a fantastic development, thank you so much !  i notice that collections i've made using the batch add feature end up with aprox. only 50% of the files showing.  these are all object files, not floors, walls,  hair, clothing etc. & the folders chosen did not have sub folders, so i can't figure out why all objects are not being added.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How is the new OFB patch working for everyone? on: 2006 March 24, 16:47:45
yah i'm aware a reinstall isn't going to fix a bad .package file - my question was will uninstalling OFB get rid of the patch, or do i have to uninstall the entire game in order to be rid of it.  does the patch for OFB alter core game files?  apparently yes.  the problem with not being able to delete recolours is not solved by disabling them, when one doesn't want hundreds of useless files laying around the game - i'm way too retentive to have a disorganized downloads folder, i need it to be tidy and only have files in it that i'm actually using *daffy duck sounds*

even if disabled .package files don't contribute to the game's load time (do they, don't they??) i don't want them in there; they're my version of wire hangers, if you know what i mean 8-)  this is why i need to get rid of the patch - it was retarded of me to have installed it in the first place, since my game wasn't broken to begin with.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How is the new OFB patch working for everyone? on: 2006 March 24, 10:28:52
i'm the impatient sort myself too, heh.  i used clean installer to get rid of a bunch of recols i didn't want this morning, but it's not always possible to identify files that way.  since i installed OFB on a fresh install of the base game and have only been playing the new ep for a week, i think i will just uninstall the whole shebang and start anew without this blasted patch.  the few lots i've built are already packaged & i've only made one sim which 've barely played with.  the piss off is all the townie makeovers i've done - don't wanna have to do that again !
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How is the new OFB patch working for everyone? on: 2006 March 24, 09:12:51
btw, regarding the problem of not being able to delete recolours - would uninstalling and then reinstalling OFB solve this or do patches alter core game files, leaving the only option to uninstall the base game and all the eps ?

apparently no, uninstalling and reinstalling OfB doesn't solve it nor does removing cc, restarting the game then outting back the cc (with the intention of resetting the game)
i've not tried either because its not too much of a hassle to me to delete from the download folder with assistance from SimPe where necessary, or via Clean Installer

damn, that's too bad - i haven't yet used simpe to delete downloads, so i'll try that, thanks.  what's the CC ?  i haven't come across this term yet, please alleviate my stupidness...

custom content ?  doh.

That's happened before. She's scared her housemate'll try and read her diary or something.
The logic of that really confuses me. I mean, why would you scribble things in a book for everyone to see, then try to pretend they won't see it? Wouldn't it make more sense to intentionally fill it with lies and deceit designed to bring about the painful and gruesome demise of anyone trying to exploit it?

i did exactly that, waaaaaay back when i 13, when i found out my step-mother was reading my diary - i filled it with so much slightly plausible scandal that it drove her batshit insane.
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How is the new OFB patch working for everyone? on: 2006 March 24, 02:24:54
I installed the patch, and I'm very frustrated with the results.  Prior to downloading the patch, I could delete just about anything (in the game) from recolors of Maxis items or custom content. Now, after installing the patch, I can't delete anything. I've been to the BBS, to no avail.  I sent a message to Maxis, and they replied with  a lame excuse.  I've had it!!!! I'm uninstalling OFB, and I'm going to re-install the game without the patch.  Is there anyone else having this particular problem?

i have this problem as well - no longer able to delete recolours for custom content or maxis made crap. others are reporting this problem over at bellamobilia and a few other forums too.   this is a seriously annoying turn of events, in that i need to house clean my downloads regularly and doing it in-game is neccessary.  i guess i will have to unistall, i don't feel confident in relying on maxis to fix this.  this is definitely the last time i install a patch without first waiting a few weeks to find out what new problems crop up !

but would uninstalling OFB and then reinstalling without the patch make any difference - does the patch change core game files that would remain effected even after uninstaling OFB ?
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 13, 20:05:58
no community lot weddings ? well a big WTF to that.  i never have my sims marry at home, they always marry in a really cute chapel i built.   thanks a lot maxis, yeesh.

i'd love it if someone found a way to hide all the maxis items in both the clothing and the buy mode catalogues.  never use any of it, can't stand to look at it.

re: my previous door placing prob - just installed all my custom content and everything is fine, door-wise.
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 13, 16:42:21
this was a fresh install from the base game on up, not one single download, on plain vanilla maxis made lots or lots i made with maxis items.  i was so frustrated last night i almost uninstalled the game, but then thought to delete the groups.cache file, and since then i've been able to place doors without crashing.  next up, installing all my custom content - should be interesting 8-)
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 13, 03:21:57
i cannot even place doors on houses/buildings let alone get them to work right - every freaking time i try to place a door my game crashes to desktop.  i've started with a fresh install from the base on up to OFB and i have zero downloads installed, so there's nothing i can remove to see if it's a hack or an object interfering.   i play the game mainly for building and interior design fun so this is putting the old kibosh on things for me, heh.

this is on maxis made, in-game lots btw, not lots i've downloaded from a site.

i hope you will be able to update this hack for ofb, it's one of my few can't-do-withouts.
