Title: Broken Resource.cfg file
Post by: Noenmity on 2010 August 14, 01:20:08
When opening the resource cfg file, I accidently forgot to unclick always open with notepad. So in my google quest to find how to undo that, I came across some instructions to always open with command prompt and being the tech noob that I am, I set to always open with CMD. Now I can't undo that and am in dire need of help from the pro's. Can anyone help please?

Wow.

Right-click, click "Open With" -> "Choose default program".

Thanks but that doesn't work. And since I don't know what program to set the resource file to always open with, i've tried setting it back to notepad but I don't get an option to use always open with. I've also tried using undo keyboard command and that doesn't work either.

What program are you trying to open it with? Is the Windows standard checkbox of "always open this type of file with this program" not there, or greyed out, or what?

More information required.

The standard checkbox is greyed out. I can open the files with notepad, however, the file itself is set to always open with command prompt. I haven't tested it in game to see if it is broken or not in this situation.

Unless you need to open/edit the cfg file, it shouldn't matter what the default opening program is.

I tested it in game and it works with no apparent problems. But I would really like to know how to get it back to its original format in that it's not attached to any particular program for opening.

That's not actually a property of the file, but in fact, just something your OS stores. It doesn't change a thing about how it functions when called by a program.
