1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How often do you 'reboot'? on: 2008 August 15, 02:26:45
I just started on the fifth generation in my custom 'hood - which I started just after NL came out. So I guess... never?
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: The social worker made my sim pregnant! on: 2007 November 30, 00:39:40
I found it wasn't a hard problem to solve in my existing houses - delete the roof walls, replace them with regular walls, then re-roof the space. I use dormers extensively when building, proabbly because I usually build sim houses to look somewhat like my house  Smiley, and I was abe to fix them with no problem. No temp warnings, no snow in weird places.

I recently downloaded SimCity2000, and I quite enjoy playing that - in fact, it can be totally addictive, even now!  I still have all my original cities on diskettes, so I might copy some of those in too!

I remember SimCity 2000! Loved that game. I wonder if I still have that anywhere...  Smiley

The problem hasn't repeated itself since I posted the first time, so I am going with the "game was running too long" theory. Before BV I used to leave it running for hours on end, mostly because it takes nearly fifteen minutes to load completely. I'd start it up, go do other things, come back and play for a while, and repeat. I guess I won't be doing that anymore.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage flashing blue pain and no ffs content on: 2007 October 11, 21:55:27
I had a few maxis beds flashing blue or just looking somehow odd after installing BV. A qucik click with the design tool brought everything back to normal. Annoying, but not a big deal.

Have you tried lowering your graphics settings?

No, not yet, I was hoping to avoid that...

But I'm leaning towards the "it was running too long" theory, because after restarting (both the computer and the game) I was able to get back into that family with no problems. I went through about another sim day with them, and everything was fine. I've played another family also, and everything checked out ok.

So I'm baffled, too. We'll see if it happens again.

Was playing BV tonight with a family I hadn't played with since installing. All was going quite nicely, my sim had her baby, and everyone was happy - until the game just kind of... froze.

By froze, I mean that my sim who was eating just kept repeating the same motion, even after I hit pause. It was almost as if the graphics weren't keeping up with my inputs. I was able to get to the controls (save, etc.) and after a few minutes, all was fine again. I payed for another minute or two, and the problem resurfaced, at which point I gave up and quit. So, while my computer is busy making backups of all my neighborhoods and downloads, I thought I'd come here and ask some questions.

1. The game had been running for nearly seven hours by the time this happened (not all of it continuously playing, but it was up and running) so could this be related to the memory leak problem I've read about on other threads?

2. Or is it an actual graphics problem? I do have an Nvidia 5500 card (I know, I know) but I have been playing with no problems whatsoever since I got the game, even with graphics turned all the way up, and I've been figuring "If it ain't broke..."

I have 1 gig of ram on a 2.4 processor and the aforementioned Nvidia card. Any other info needed please let me know.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: fix for a pets/bv bug on: 2007 September 27, 13:04:12
I noticed this too, I thought it was a bit odd - but I've been playing families with pets quite a bit, and it doesn't seem to actually hurt anything. The only annoyance is you have to click on the pet to see it's mood, rather than going by the thumbnail background.
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Will my neighborhoods explode soon? :( on: 2007 September 13, 23:22:29
I think you're okay - my custom hood has 672 right now with all three BV destinations attached (and a downtown, business district and university) and I've been playing it since NL came out. (I play slow, I know)

Just for reference sake, though - I keep a plain vanilla, never been played Pleasantview on my computer (for testing new EP's before I add my downloads back - (I never save, so it's still frozen right at the EAxis beginning) and, as of right now, it has 634 character files.
9  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: EP5 seasonal trees spawning on built lots: unremovable by any means on: 2007 April 09, 14:49:22
Yes, I had the same problem - a maple tree growing in my sim's garage. The problem was caused, apparently, by a maple tree in the neighbor's yard - I went into the next door lot, moved the tree, and the problem was solved.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: How do you feel about accidental deaths in the Sims 2? on: 2007 March 29, 19:07:12
I haven't even had an accidental death in two years of playing the game - mine have all been from old age. I had a close call once - a sim set herself on fire while cooking (The stove didn't burn, but she did. It was sort of odd.) in a house without a fire alarm. She survived in the end, which is good because she's a favorite.  I wish some of my less favored sims would catch themselves on fire - shrink the neighborhood a little - but I'm a big softie. I can't kill them off deliberately.

My custom hood is N004, and it's fine.  Cheesy

12  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Game crashing, Sim invisible - what do I do? on: 2007 February 11, 19:09:14

One other odd thing that happened about a week ago was another lot I hadn't played in a long time wouldn't open. I moved the family out and moved them into another place, and the daughter's Wants panel was empty.

I don't know if the wants panel being empty is something to seriously worry about - I had that with a family right after installing NL - the little girl's wants kept coming up empty. She is now an elder, and as far as I can tell, she's fine - and I've been playing that neighborhood for over a year now. Her mother later developed a problem with screwy wants showing up, but she was permaplat -I left her alone, and she died not long after, quite uneventfully of old age.

Anyhow, my point is, that may not be anything to worry too much about.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Dumb question, re: pets' last names on: 2006 December 30, 22:28:40
I mean, whose cat has the last name of the cat breeder you bought it from?

Whose pet has a last name at all?

Well, according to our vet's charts, our cats are Princess (our last name), Natasha (our last name), etc. I'm sure they just do that so they know which pet goes with which owner, but it's still kind of funny to see that on their paperwork.
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What can each species/age do? on: 2006 October 31, 03:19:40
I have had sims in three different lots adopt either puppies or kittens - and in each case, the sim was able to pick the kitty/puppy up and carry it into the house or around the house, just by clicking "pick up" and then "go here." Although, unlike with toddlers, I had to click on the puppy/kitten itself to get the sim to put it down.

Toddlers will spontaneously cuddle puppies, it is WAY cute!
And of course, my goofy sims would proceed to pick the puppy back up again and play with it. Six sims in one family and all of them wanted to play with the puppy at the same time. Including the toddlers!
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ssssh! The eerie phantom sound... on: 2006 October 06, 19:20:19
I've had this too - in a few different houses. I couldn't get it to stop, either, and even though it is really irritating, I just try to ignore it.

(Although if someone knows how to fix it, I'd love to get rid of it!)
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Thanks For the Perma-Plat, But Two of Them Ain't My Kids! on: 2006 July 05, 02:22:21
I think this is an ongoing SWAF corruption in Ancient Sim land.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one... (I think?)  Wink
17  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Problems with very weird wants on: 2006 June 23, 03:27:12
Have you tried deleting your groups.cache file?

Tried that, and it worked! - for all the other sims, anyway. They now have their wants panels nicely filled. Still didn't fix poor old Amelia, though. I don't so much mind her being a little bugged, as she is only a few days away from the end. I'm just hoping whatever is bugging her won't spread to the rest of the neighborhood.

If it does, well, that's what we make backups for, right?
18  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Problems with very weird wants on: 2006 June 23, 02:43:10
I think you managed to corrupt your files. That qualifies as a BFBVFS.

Well, great. That's what I was afraid of. Good thing I made a backup several days before all this started.

Are you using the latest edition of SimPE?  Or possibly an older version that had errors?  I know there was at least one edition that was corrected and replaced fairly rapidly, but if that was the one you were using before the trouble began to show, maybe that's what set it off.

Have you checked the number of SWAF files against the number of characters in your hood?  If you have 353 character files, then you should have the same number of SWAF files.  If that checks out ok, you could try deleting the SWAF for each character with the problem and hopefully they will generate a new and complete set of wants and fears when you reload the game.  If you find you have a great deal more SWAF files than character files, look for any that have no owner, not even Unknown.  Delete these.  When you have done this, check and see if the numbers correlate, which hopefully they will.

Also check in Sim Relations for any relationships of unknown towards x, x towards unknown, or unknown towards unknown, and delete these from the list.

Pescado helped me to do this, as I was really having problems all due to deleting the half-dozen townie kids, so now I'm passing on what I hope is the advice I was given by him and a couple of others and which helped me save an even newer hood from a BFBVFS!

Well, I took a look, and there were only 343 SWAF files listed, which is really odd. I went through all those relations, deleted the unknowns,  and I tried deleting Amelia's SWAF file, but when I started the game up, nothing had changed. Which either means I did it wrong (entirely possible) or I managed to create one big huge ugly BFBVFS.
I created a backup before all this started happening, at least, which means that the neighborhood isn't a total loss. I was just hoping to avoid that, as several of my sims have had weddings and babies since I made that backup.
Oh, well.
19  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Problems with very weird wants on: 2006 June 22, 03:08:02
Okay, my first post, because this has me completely and totally freaked out.

A while back, right before installing NL, I started a new neighborhood. (I did not use DeleteAllCharacters in doing so) I set up one family, and then installed NL. Right after installing NL, this family showed up with blank want slots. Blank as in just plain blue, that is.
The problem seemed to resolve itself pretty quickly, though, so I kept on building my new neighborhood. Installed OFB after it came out, no new problems. The blank wants would pop up once in a while on members of that original family, but again, it always resolved itself.

But... the other day I opened SimPE just to nose around, and I browsed through the SWAF files. I thought I was being careful. I didn't hit anything. All I thought I did was look.
But the next time I opened the game, every sim that I had looked at (and only those who's SWAF files I had looked at) had blank want slots, and all the uni graduates had reverted to four instead of six. I used TJ's college adjuster to restore the missing slots and the new slots were also blank. Each sim had maybe one want - to go on a date, something like that - and several blank slots.
And each one of them had a completely new LTW, which I used the FFS lot debugger to reroll back to the original.
The weirdest problem, however, popped up in my oldest sim, the first one I created, who is now an elder about 6 or 7 days away from kissing simlife goodbye. Her panel included wants for a sim she has never met to become an overachiever, and three fears of townies (who are not dead) becoming zombies. I sent her to sleep for several sim hours, I had her check out her husband, I even fulfilled one of her normal wants by getting her son engaged, nothing.

So what do I do? Is this a sign that my neighborhood on it's way to becoming a BFBVFS?  Or will this weird problem resolve itself on it's own eventually?

I have no hacks, other than awesome ones (critical fixes and the lot debugger, and TJ's college adjuster) and the 'hood only has 353 sim character files in the folder.

I'm praying it's not a BFBVFS, because I am very attached to this neighborhood. And if I have to send Amelia (the elder sim with the wacky wants) to an early sim-grave, then I'll do it. She has already fulfilled two LTW's, she's permaplat, she can die happy.
