Of course, everyone wants to live on the good side of town. I have several run down trailers (not the nice ones from Laverwinklesims) and a ghetto. They can't be full of townies. We need a couple of brave MATY souls to live there so we can do a rags to riches story.  Any volunteers?

Hey, I've lived in a crappy trailer before. I don't have a problem starting out "low". :) Actually, you can put Sim-me in any housing or any living situation. I'm not picky.

The third picture above (the one sim-me is in) is a lot with 5 individual small house/apartments on it. I'm using Inge's security system to assign each apartment. I also have some "high-rise" apartments that are more middle class that I'm still working on. Right now, I'm just finishing up the old industrial section that has become the neglected slum area.

How about putting you in the Ethiopian E-Mail Challenge? :P

OMG!  I know I wanted rags to riches for my sim me, but I'm scared of the inside of that trailer!  Put me in there, but don't leave me there!

That trailer I lived in had no heat. None. And no insulation to speak of. That winter, we had a spell of temperatures in the teens that lasted several weeks. If I left a glass of water out overnight, there would be ice on it in the morning. I've lived with no money, with a baby, but no car or refrigerator. And I've never been on public assistance of any kind (not that there's anything wrong with it). I could go on about hardship but that would just sound whiny. In short, your challenge does not phase me in the least, except for the crying baby part.

You're part of the reason I made this post! I've been reading and re-reading what people have posted about their self-sims trying to match some things up. I misread where you posted this:

"Naturally, if you are a true MATY member, you would ensure that my sim experiences the complete opposite of all my desires, which would be no woohoo, living in a shack with an overweight, scruffy, smelly woman!  Maybe that's what I deserve!"

and in my notes had that you wanted to live in a shack. I am trying to match what people say about themself with what the story line in the hood is (as much as possible). I decided it best not to just stick someone in the slums without them knowing ahead of time. I didn't want anyone to misread my intentions or to be upset (especially because I make my slums to be "slums").

Hehe... if you got lots of you slummy stuff over at MTS2 you'll note that I did a bunch of the updating for University...  Not to mention that I made some trashy stuff too.  So likely I'll have fun playing myself in that enviroment, LOL

I'd like to live in the ghetto and slum areas - I'd get bored living the good life for too long!

Simmiecal, thanks for listening.  I'll quietly slink into that trailer with that overweight, scruffy smelly woman.  Consort's got a fantastic male 'fat' mesh - I've got a female one from MTS, but I'm not sure who made it.  I'll double check then add it here.  ;D

If you don't mind me asking..where did you get your "slum" type things..such as the wallpapers and foundation that has wheels?

Anywhere mysterious explosions would be unnerving is good. People never expect the next Dr. Evil to be living in a ghetto. ;-D

The siding and the "dirty" furniture came from MTS2. Just search for "trashed" and you'll find a bunch. Actually, there is a lot on there already built that looks a lot like the one I built. (I had previously downloaded that lot and played it in my personal hood.) I liked that lot but the trailer was a little too narrow for my tastes but I definitely got my "ideas" for my trailer from that one. If you download that trailer, you will get a lot of the trash stuff along with it.

The wheels that are on the trailer got into the game from Witch's hippie commune "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" that was imported into the hood. Witch will have to tell you where she got them. (Heehee - but now that I have them, I'm using them.)

The slummy stuff is likely from MTS2...  I think I recoginze the outside rusted tin siding as being by KThompson. 
The thread I'm posting has lots of stuff, and it's scattered throughout the thread too.  Not everything is there though, as some folks have made trashed stuff later.  Wireless guy has a nice set of "second hand" worn wood recolors too.

One of those apartment places sounds fine if there is one vacant. I don't mind having to work for things but I want a few people to socialize with in the meantime.

I'm pretty much a suburbanite at heart, but if all the other mid-range houses are taken, my Sim boyfriend and I could live in a trailer.   :D

I've noticed that in your pictures the mailbox (and trashcan) have been moved, does the mailman have any problems with it being moved away from the road?

Not that I've experienced. Just make sure that there is a clear path to it and it's not blocked. Someone please speak up if they've found otherwise.

wonderful news! now I will shift some mailboxs and trashcans on some of my pre-NL lots so I can fit a driveway in *laughs*

Reminds me of the one that guy in the forest near my school lived in.
When he died they found out the old nut was some rich old something or another who snapped back in the 50's.
Dude had like half a mill in cash and all sorts of "treasures" in that tin can of his.

Now I kinda wanna make a sim of him and stick him in that trailer if I could possibly get it from you.

If you were able to get my lots and my family ,you can put "Nana" in that trailer.  :)  She'd love it!!!  (Nana is based on my RL mother in law) ;)  Besides, I'd love to see the old broad tortured.  hehehe

I've never had any problems and I move both the trashcan and the mailbox all the time. However, it will make sims walk all over your lot. Every sim that walks by, as well as all delivery people, HAVE to stop by the mailbox as they pass. So if the mailbox is somewhere in the middle of the lot, that's where they'll all go. Gets very annoying. I mostly keep it within a few squares of the road for that reason.

When I get home tonight, I upload the lot for you (or anyone else that wants it).

It is Blink13y 's trailer. This is the lot that "inspired" me to build mine. I have downloaded this lot and played it in my personal hood. That lot is bigger than mine, but my trailer is wider than that one. I found the MTS2 to be too narrow for me. This lot also has a lot of the "trashed" items in it, so if you're looking for that stuff, it might save you from doing a bunch of downloads separately.

ahhh...ok,  I will keep that in mind  8)  Can't have everyone under the sim sun messing up my sims yards!!  ;D

Wow, that second picture looks like it ought to be condemned...

I wasn't finding the type of highrise apartment buildings that I wanted for part of the hood. I wanted something modern looking and "steel". I decided to build one. The building is currently hollow as I am going to use this as a template. It has Targa's elevators in it (get them at http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=97172&highlight=targa+elevator ), some custom walls, windows and doors. (Custom wall from: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=65694&highlight=elevator and custom windows and doors at TSR) The lowest level is a six car garage. The next level up is the lobby - rec room area. Above that are three apartments. Each apartment has two levels, a balcony and an area with cathedral ceilings. It's nice, but I don't think my machine would ever let me play it.  :'(  I really need to spend more money on my computer (like I don't spend all my extra money on computer stuff as it is.)  :P

This reminds me of the architecture of Chicago, for some reason... especially the marina apartments...

Ah, the mind works in mysterious ways.....considering I grew up in Chicago, I'm sure Chicago architecture comes to mind first when I'm designing and building.

It's such a beautiful city... I grew up there as well, and the architecture is one of the things I miss the most.

the apartments are beautiful!...  Um, I'm thinking somehow I need to move up to that before jumping into a condo then a 2 story 6 bedroom house like I have now, lol.

I don't mind living in the trailer either Simmiecal, as long as I get out eventually. I'm dirt-poor right now, although I do have enough to afford a house to live in. Darn tuitions...(thank goodness for scholarships :D)

The apartment house is a beauty, although my machine will most likely not let me get away with playing it either. But I will stick it into the downtown area for the looks.

I don't mind if my sim(s) live in the poorer part of town, but, um, maybe not quite as poor as the trailer in the first picture... brings up bad memories, and as silly as it sounds, it would pain me a little to have my pixel-self(selves) having to live like that. Poor is okay, but relatively clean, neat, and doing as well as finances allow poor.

I'm not that thrilled with this apartment building but it does have a roof top pool.

The trashed trailer is something I had on my game for a while and it's very "me".  I can live in surroundings like that and literally not even notice (well, I more or less do anyway except there are no wheels).  As long as I had a computer and the electricity to run it (which, of course, Sims apparently don't need), what else was there/not there wouldn't matter.  Ideally though, I'd be in the Lucy in the Sky complex, which I also have.  I absolutely adore caravans and would love to live in a genuine Romany caravan, giving the occasional tarot reading to earn a bit of cash, but otherwise hiding from the rest of the world. 

I dont care where sim me lives.........however if you stick me there have sim me clean up the trash in and around my trailer and a cheap paint job would be nice after all sim me could be there awhile might as well beautify my own shack if possible 8) other than having sim me fix up my hovel a bit and make it liveable by all means  move me into the ghetto.even thee ghetto can be made a nicer place to live with a little paint and elbow grease
