Title: Sims3 Home Improvements Pack found
Post by: Firefly on 2010 May 20, 15:49:17
July 2010 Issue 202 PC Gamer Magazine CD, offers The Sims3 Home Improvements Pack. An exclusive for PC Gamer magazine, offering the best player created loot. Did not pay the ten spot to find out what is on the CD. Maybe someone else might be interested.

Sounds like they're putting stuff from the Exchange on the free CD that goes with the magazine.

Okay after getting chatty with the store clerk, when no other employee was around, here is what you get on the CD.

Clothing 3.5 MB
Household 4.3 MB
Lots 59.7 MB
Objects 107.9 MB
Sim 19.3 MB
Sims Part 2 17.6

There is a grand total of 202.3 MB content and it is in .rar format.   In addition to the content, you receive  two pictures and one movie featuring the Sim Ambitions new jobs. The manager came in before we could unrar the object file to take a quick peek inside.  Major bummer so close, but yet so far away.

Doesn't seem worth it. Could be if someone could examine the actual content. Do you think you could go back another time when the manager is gone?

I actually have the CD and as far as I could tell, it is all Exchange crap. I didn't try installing anything, but if anyone wants to, I uploaded the files here:

That .rar includes everything except for 2 screenshots (nothing new) and the first Ambitions trailer with Rise Against's song "Savior" in Simlish.

Well, my brother didn't pay for his disc. He's had a subscription for the regular PC Gamer without the CDs for going on 3 years and for whatever reason, we've been getting the one with the CD in the mail for a few months now. On the disc after it talks about the Crysis 2 content, it says "Sims 3 Home Improvements Pack: The best player-created loot - a PC Gamer exclusive!" When I saw this I was definitely wondering about that statement even before checking the disc. I mean, if you asked a bunch of people who creates the best custom content, you'd get tons of different answers because it's all down to personal preference. So who decided that the stuff on the CD is the "best"? When I checked the CD and noticed that the majority of the stuff doesn't say who made it, and there's no pics of anything, I was definitely questioning PC Gamer and their idea of "best".

If it's all Exchange crap, than "player-created" is misleading at best.  "Player-recolored" or "player-patterned" is probably closer to the mark.

Unless there are lots and worlds on the disk, which I expect there are.

Installing and checking the stuff out. Might be something good on the CD (Yeah right....).

EDIT: I was right, it's all mostly shit.

Thanks for putting me out of my misery. Glad someone was able to get the CD: especially for free. Like to preview before buying; to many disappointments. I really expected more from PC Gamer. This stuff must be really old, tried six clothing items and ended up with my hood underwater. Have not had time to investigate which file or files caused this. I removed everything.
