Title: Post your creatures here
Post by: Insanity Prelude on 2008 September 17, 04:28:56
Because it's nice to have them all in one place.

For my thread-starting contribution, I present to you the Venomous Tentacula. (Unrelated to the thing mentioned in Harry Potter.) I think it's kind of cute with the poison spitters in place of eyes.

NO. Do not post them here. Post them in the challenge thread.

Since this is NOT a challenge creature, here is a Cwieberdink for your gaming pleasure.

I was trying to get the Cerberus achievement. Oddly, it didn't pop up, either when I made a three-headed (but only two different mouths) creature in the actual creature stage or this thing in the creature creator.

But hey. It still has five freaking heads.

Since most of my creatures are pretty upfront about their weapons:

Tunie
(http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee334/zazazuspore/Creatures/Tunie.png)
(the ones I'm actively playing through space...they have just one more level to achieve and are at 19 colonies)

Reben
(http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee334/zazazuspore/Creatures/Reben.png)
I just love the metallic sheen on them. They also have two mouths, but you can just barely see one.

Of course all mine are available through my sig. I'm up to 11 save games right now. I just love how different my creatures come out when they are evolved instead of created with everything available.

I think my creatures (http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=usr-Jesslla|2267420097) kinda suck. I've got 11 creatures, and I only like about three of them.

It's true, evolved creatures tend to go in very different directions than sandbox ones.  The limited budget and the desire to do stuff that will be immediately useful has a huge effect.

I have ... many. Some from the creature creator (all 48 of which are here (http://s131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/Lady_Faizah/Spore/)) and some from Spore itself (here (http://s131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/Lady_Faizah/Spore/More/)) - the latter link also includes some buildings, vehicles, and UFOs, for a current total of 120 post-Spore uploaded creations.

Some of my favourite creatures:

(http://hollingsworth.no-ip.info:8080/spore/Gellen.png) is the Gellen, because he looked kind of goopy and gel-like in cell stage; he's my first creature, and I have a whole playset of Gellen-themed accessories for him if anyone wants them. I also have a clothed version, but it's not so nice actually.

(http://hollingsworth.no-ip.info:8080/spore/Dracis.png) is my second creation, the Dracis. That's the one where I was going for the no-leg achievement I'd heard about. He's slow as hell, but actually flies pretty quickly.

(http://hollingsworth.no-ip.info:8080/spore/Vancars.png) is my boyfriend's creature, the Vancars. They fly or something.

OM NOM NOM. Delishus spore creatures; I ate them. I like that piratey squid of yours, Faizah, and the Dracis. Also, Cerberus is teh awesome.
I love how easy it is to steal other people's creations. I just drag and drop, baby.
Now you can have a few splotchs of mine. I know-- you were just dying to have them.   :P All I have is Creature Creator right now, btw.

Are all of your creatures hapless and mostly defenseless, or are they more like my monsters? You should see how hard it is in my game, when the game has started reusing the monsters *I* made in Creature and Tribal, and therefore I get to fight my way through my own vicious killerbeasts. And where have YOU been lately? You need to show up more so we can abuse you. Stupid Chastity.

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: Zazazu on 2008 September 22, 16:39:18
Tunie is kind of midling on the kill factor. The Reben is pretty high...that ball on his tail is actually the highest-level mace. One of his mouths is either a 4 or 5 on bite. You could also hide things under the nose...I chose not to.

Yes, I'm regretting making some of my creatures so deadly. Stupid Mesca.

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: Insanity Prelude on 2008 September 22, 17:14:42
So far I've been building mine more around "hey, that looks cool" (the Hydra) or "that would be useful in creature stage" (the Arrakis and Soliandon) so they aren't especially deadly.

Then again, the Soliandon didn't *need* to be deadly. Even though I was on Hard, I managed to befriend three rogue creatures.  ;D

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/technobubblegum/spore_creatures/Soliandon3.png) <- and there it is. I did put a decent striker on it.

Here's the vanilla Arrakis while I'm at it, since it was uploaded alongside the space version:

Incidentally, I wanted to put weapons on the Hydra but having five heads filled up the complexity meter fast.

Yeah. I am thinking of making some weak-ass chickenshit monsters. My first foray into Tribal had some unhappy encounters with a neighbouring tribe of Froggies.

If you encounter a tribe of my good critters, I suggest you gift them, fast. Because all the combat advantages you're used to against EAxis creatures simply don't exist vs. mine, and you will get mauled.

If you encounter a tribe of Kewhales, on the other hand, break out the harpoons! I got an announcement I was being raided by the Kewhale tribe, so I equipped my entire tribe with throwing harpoons and met the slowly moving whales in the field (being beached whales, they move painfully slowly), where they came at me with their axes gripped in their baleen. I ordered my dudes to hurl their harpoons at it, and pretty soon all the Kewhales were dead on the field with multiple harpoons sticking out of them. It was awesome. They never even touched me.

I'm a big fan of creature stage, and so most of these haven't made it out -

Oh, look...more shiny critters!

I actually keep the bottom coat with exactly the texture the cell stage gives me initially, so it's odd that I keep getting these shiny ones.
Brucks
(http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee334/zazazuspore/Creatures/Brucks.png)
He is lobsterish. He is shiny. He is love.

Cordot
(http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee334/zazazuspore/Creatures/Cordot.png)
Cute as crap. The fins hide teeny-tiny wings that do allow him to fly. Very high on social skills but middling on combat.

And now for a crappy easily-killed/impressed one:
Fuzzy Pumpkin

Playing for the devolution challenge.

Cell is my favorite stage, but I've got a couple creatures lying around to share:

Klob; my very first creature.

Cotee; I was going for something dinosaur/terror bird-esque.

Whalark; played the Creature stage for ages before I was finally happy with this guy.

I improved upon the original Venomous Tentacula. Flagella make excellent tentacles, and feet animate better than hand-walkers.

It lost a bit in the weapons department- I could only fit so much within the constraints of the complexity meter. But hey, at least it still has *a* level 5 ability (Bite,) and I improved the spitters.

Post by: Zazazu on 2008 September 28, 03:31:22
Flagella make fantastic tails, too.
Garite (creature)
Nice lower-level creature. Only has a 3 in sing and 2 in charm, or vice versa.

Garite (space)

Well, just got Spore and haz been playing. My first creature was killah! The entire way through until the space stage (haven't played it enough). But here is the Klaymore:

(Creature)

(Tribal)

(and Civilization.... would this also count as Space because nothing changed for their dress between the Civ. and Space stages?)

My other creature (halfway through the Creature stage) is available here: http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp328/BarkingPup49/Spore/ (http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp328/BarkingPup49/Spore/). The entire album is sadly empty because I have been unable to create a third game without glitches and crashes littering the landscape. Also available -if you reeeally want them- are the Cell stages of both creatures.

Space also pollinates with Civ-dressed creatures at Space level, so that does still 'work' for adding new races to encounter.

So I would have to make/download Civ. creatures to get new Space races? I thought it was odd that all of the Civ. creatures were my own race or is that normal? *has not played enough to check*

[edit: fixed 1am brain fart]

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: Faizah on 2008 September 28, 08:27:55
Yes, all other Civ cities in Civ stage are your own race. Space stage pollinates the space-faring neighbours from random Civ and Space level races. (Plus other levels, on worlds that you can drop a monolith onto, but I've never had a monolithed race evolve with clothes...)

Post by: Zazazu on 2008 September 28, 18:47:56
Nice tidbit: you can subfolder your creatures folder (and the others) and still have them all show. It was starting to get hard to ID my stuff.

Have we determined a way to share our creatures without sharing our personal info?

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: rohina on 2008 September 29, 03:22:14
I believe the answer to that is not to name your computer your real name. Which Pescado says is a bad idea anyway.

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: kutto on 2008 September 29, 03:33:23
My computer is not named my real name, but my XP account is named my real name, which is what Spore seems to be using.

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: Zazazu on 2008 September 29, 03:38:42
Use an alternate account? I believe one solution is to take your creation .pngs from the account you don't want the name of public, load up the game in an alternate anonymous account, make some miniscule change and save. It should now be under your name. Hence all the recolored EAxis items in the Sporepedia under member names.

I made a very basic creature the other day, mainly because I'd just discovered this technique. I call it Boxo, and it has three versions: Creature, Civ and Space.

(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/Lady_Faizah/Spore/More/Boxo.png)(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/Lady_Faizah/Spore/More/Boxo1.png)(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p282/Lady_Faizah/Spore/More/Boxo2.png)

I can't take all the credit for that though, I stumbled across the tip in my browsing. (I think it was a 1950s style robot on the Sporepedia, would've been either in the featured or the most popular list.) Feel free to dissect the creature to see what I did there.

Has anyone seen any good creature creator tutorials? Everything I've seen does the basics. I've figured out a few things myself (scaling items that don't seem to be scalable and using TAB to access more tilt controls) but there are lots of things I see that I can't figure out.

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: Gus Smedstad on 2008 September 30, 15:16:25
I've seen a couple for asymmetric parts, but they're flakey.  Even when you manage it, it's very difficult to manipulate the parts, because if you select the part it reverts to normal.  Since I almost always have to tweak a part after I place it, I don't find it very useful.

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: Faizah on 2008 September 30, 16:20:47
I'd be interested in a good tutorial or three myself, so far I've been 'learning' by taking things apart, which has taught me new places to hide stuff. Then there was that tip at the start of the vehicle thread here, building an inner skeleton to make the parts 'sink' slightly. (Which I later used on my Starbug, posted in the same thread.)

Also, that that one diamond-shaped +health part (I am terrible with names...) makes good boxes, if you flip it around.

But mainly I've been taking things apart and seeing if I can put them back together. I love that I can do that, I have to say. Have a bit of a tinker, see what they did there, educational and fun.

Title: Re: Post your creatures here
Post by: Zazazu on 2008 September 30, 17:17:44
Most of the spit things make good noses when flipped around, plus of course give you the ability. I don't like the looks of them top-up. My current killer on Hard has one as his nose, keeping him looking thoroughly like a barely-evolved cellular creature.

I added about 6 MATY creatures in, they were everywhere, like the game was only using those. The saddest part was the tribal stage I played last night. About 4 of the other five tribes were Assmittens. Two of them hated me. I couldn't deal with the angst, so I took the creatures all out and restarted the level.

Oh, this reminds me...my current two races that are getting in position to work on the Grox (though I'm now thinking I might want more than two races in the pincer attack):

Orine

Salmine
(http://i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee334/zazazuspore/Creatures/Salmine.png)

And others, which were designed to be not too tough of a challenge if you happen to need to social/kill them:

Rabboo

(I was going for a semi-evolved look)

Domondy

(his belly is actually the top of his leg)

Some civ/space versions are available in my sig.

(http://ll-171.ea.com/spore/static/thumb/500/148/171/500148171953.png) It had been a long day and I was in serious need of hilarity - that is, duck-related hilarity.

(http://ll-285.ea.com/spore/static/thumb/500/041/285/500041285026.png) Voracera - my most vicious creation yet.  I modeled him after the early screen shots of the game in which Will Wright had made a two-legged one-armed thing similar to this (except his was green).

(http://ll-571.ea.com/spore/static/thumb/500/027/571/500027571214.png) The first race I played to space.  Unfortunately a freeze that completely wiped my save (I would have saved if I had expected the possibility of a freeze, yes I'm a moron) kept me from a.) getting past tribal stage since and b.) getting very far into the space stage.

And I know these aren't creatures, but I'm more proud of them and worked harder on them than anything else I have done up to this point.

Edit - if these aren't showing up because I linked to EA, please let me know and I will sign up for photobucket or something.
