176  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Check this for me on: 2006 October 22, 03:49:49
1. I updated all my hacks.  It's still happening.

2. I had the problem in a game without any hacks, or custom content.
177  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Check this for me on: 2006 October 21, 18:05:32
I'm having this problem with my regular game and with my vanilla--no CC, no hacks-- version.

Whenever I try to adopt a child or call an exterminator the Sim talks for a few seconds then jumps out of the action.   Everything's fine for all the other services including the adopt a pet, though I'll sometimes have to tell them to call services a couple of times without them jumping out.

At one point I was getting a "Error-something something--wrong species-something something Cancel Reset Delete" message when I tried to adopt a child.

WIll someone else check and see if it's happening to them.

Nero has a way of really embedding itself in your system.  A friend put it on mine while trying to solve a problem with my DVD.  And while I officially uninstalled it a month or so ago, it still pops up when I use my DVD.

It has not, so far as I can tell, caused any problems with the Sims2.  And I have no idea what you, or I, can do about it.
179  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Found 3 interesting OFB fixes at Sims Wardrobe- anyone using them? on: 2006 May 18, 22:18:02
My absolute particular hatred is the blue female politics suit. I hate it with a passion.

Yep, I can feel the polyesther itch everytime I see it and the similar business one.

I guess, by contrast, I do have a life.  (Doesn't feel like it.)
181  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: MTS2 now MYL2 on: 2006 April 01, 04:18:52
Gotta be less fuss than last year when they announced MTS2 was becoming part of TSR.... Grin
182  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Well so much for the elevators! on: 2006 March 17, 17:49:38
OTOH, the fact that the damn things don't drop is driving me nuts. Tongue

Give them time, they'll drop, or force them to! It's slightly comical.

Wrong kind of drop.  Cheesy I should have said, "drop out of sight".  In other words--never ever place them in the center of a room.
183  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Well so much for the elevators! on: 2006 March 17, 06:55:13
I've definitely had two Sims get on the elevator at the same time, in the one building (a dorm) I've used them in.  And I've had Sims go in and out of the elevator a couple of times, but not endlessly.

OTOH, the fact that the damn things don't drop is driving me nuts. Tongue

185  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Cheerleaders in Llama Suits on: 2006 February 21, 05:56:57
And Llamas in llama suits.  I'm sure they have their place.  (In a doorless room.) However, I have a Greek House which has had a number of cheerleaders and llamas join and then go out into the big world upon graduation.

However, they seem to be forever after doomed to wearing the Llama suit whenever they're out of their own house.  This includes dates and family outings.   It's getting old and confusing.

The Greek House recently passed a rule that neither llamas, cows no cheerleaders may move in in future, but has anyone/ could anyone, please cure them of the compulsion to dress like a large camelid on all possible occasions?

186  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: faceless guy on: 2006 January 24, 06:37:39
Had the "matrix face" show up on Ricky Cormier after I sent him to UNI, when he transitioned from YA to Adult.   Luckily it went away as soon as I moved him into his own place.    (And I was using his default hair and skin, so you can't blame it on CC.)
187  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / OK, I'll try it here: TV Commercials on: 2006 January 12, 21:43:49
In the folder \Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Movies\Broadcast\Commercials are six files -- all with .movie suffixes.  They are titled :tv_commercial_alien, tv_commercial_bunny, tv_commercial_car, Tv_commercial_pizza, tv_commercial_shampoo, tv_commercial_sitcom.

I clearly remember seeing these commercials on the Sims TVs when the Sims2 first came out.  They no longer appear, not even when I have only the unpatched original game installed.

What is going on with them?  Does anyone else get them.  Does anyone else not get them?  What happened?

Am I just a loser?

Seriously this is driving me buggy, and whenever I ask about this on less awesome boards people tell me about places I can download commercials made by other people.   I just want to know what happened to these!!!
188  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics Glitches driving me buggy on: 2005 December 28, 05:17:54
Yeah, the cables have been checked.  Smiley  The DVD reads data just fine, but with or without the new graphics card, any movie I run in it has a scrambled picture.   Tongue
189  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics Glitches driving me buggy on: 2005 December 27, 19:01:23
My hubby got me a Radeon 9550 and I took out the neighborhood objects.   Everything is running fine.   (BTW, I should have mentioned that I'd taken out the camera view that allowed me to see the whole neighborhood and the flashing thingies were still there, so it wasn't that.)

Anyway, no reoccurence of the crashing or flashing blue screen, which is the main thing.  And for the first time I can see bump maps and get the special events camera (which will get old awfully fast, but is fun for now.)

Thanks for all advice.

Now we just have to figure out why my new shiney DVD player has the same problems my old DVD player had.....
190  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics Glitches driving me buggy on: 2005 December 26, 18:05:54
I'm using custom neighborhood objects, I'm trying to find the stupid things in the folder to remove them, because I just thought of that myself.  I'll have to live without stonehenge, I guess.

My husband is planning to go out and pick me up a new Video Card (and DVD player since both of ours have crapped out recently) today.  We'll see if that takes care of the other problems.
191  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Graphics Glitches driving me buggy on: 2005 December 26, 06:39:05
Well, I tried at N99 and I tried at MTS2, you are my only hope:

I haven't found any of this listed anywhere, but over the last week my game went from just fine to nearly unplayable.

Twice while playing the same household I had sudden crashes, not just to desktop, but an entire system reboot. The second time it happened I was sent to this error message when I reported this to Microsoft:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.aspx?SGD=5f2d6e7e-ab10-4e36-be9a-14f22e0c06ff&SID=11

On that advice I updated my drivers.

This has made the problem worse. When I go into any neighborhood I get strange graphics glitches like the big silver wing thing in this picture:

This usually occurs when I'm rotating or zooming in.

Worse, whether in neighborhood or on a lot, the screen sometimes goes to a blank blue screen when I rotate or zoom in, during which time the harddrive is being accessed. It will do this a few times and then reboot the system. When I report to Microsoft I get either the error above, or a page saying This Error is Being Researched.

When I remove all downloads the problem goes away. It does not reoccur when I put in hacks, or skins. I spent most of today putting my objects back in a few at a time, and then rotating them out to an "OK folder." With each small batch the problem was gone. After I had gone through every object the problem didn't happen. I put everything back in and it started the game. And the graphics glitch and the blue screen thing started right up again, so it isn't apparently caused by a single object.

Wondering if I'd hit some sort of limit on downloads I took out about 500MB of objects, to well below the amount of downloaded objects when the problem started.

I'm running Sims2 Uni, NL and the holiday pack.

My system is:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

AMD Athelon XP 2500+
1.85 GHZ 1GB RAM

NVidia GEForce4 MX 4000
128 MB memory
Driver 6.14.0010.8195

I notice that my graphics card isn't supported for NL, though it ran just fine until early last week. (Until just after the new XP automatic update...) I'm thinking the problem may be that the poor old Graphics card just can't take it any more.

Thank you for this, Awesome One!  It is one of the most useful hacks since the phone hack.
193  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Welcome, TwoJeffs! on: 2005 October 31, 03:34:11
Good to see you.  Hope it works out well here.  You're pretty awesome, so I don't see why it wouldn't.

194  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Another deleted goodbye on: 2005 October 28, 05:35:06
Our first computer was a Commodore Vic 20.   And I clung to my Amiga 500 until I absolutely had to have a computer that had software that was compatible with my co-author's PC.  (That was in 1997.)

195  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Missing J.M.'s hacks........... on: 2005 October 25, 16:29:31
I just want a hack that stops them "farting hearts"* everytime they see someone they're attracted to.

I wouldn't mind if it only happened once per Sim, or once a day even.  But with married couples the constant -- Wow, s/he's hot" routine gets really old really really fast.

* Not my description.  Attribute to SlipKnotBondage at N99.
196  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Both Patches are Available on: 2005 October 13, 23:03:46
Anybody else having their nannies get an cancel/reset/delete error since the patch?  (The only one that works is "delete" which means the baby gets left alone.)
197  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Both Patches are Available on: 2005 October 12, 20:30:13
And the announcement is up on the main board.

Getting ready to install it now.
198  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Both Patches are Available on: 2005 October 12, 20:21:56
NL and UN patches are available at the main site, though the front page hasn't announced it.  Go to help and then click patches.

NL patch includes UNI patch.   The list of fixed stuff is pretyy awesome, but not so Awesome as Our Fearless Leader.

I hadn't noticed I didn't have bowling sounds either, but the strange thing is that i did have singing with the kareoke machine.   Huh

I'm having problems with blank want slots on a couple of Sims, too.  Both of them are NPC Sims who were originally teenagers in the neighborhood who I sent to college and am now playing in the regular hood.
