So, Jezzer, thanks for your VERY helpful comment. I love when you guys take the time to give us normals so much attention. Obviously nothing better to do. At least Wizard gave me an answer, even with the silly little closer that was meant to make him feel big and me small but just made me feel a little sad and very thankful.
Yeah, no one cares about your pwecious widdle feewings. Save them for your LJ.

I suspected it was the patch since it occurred after I had installed it and only when playing the game. However, if it's a hardware failure like you're suggesting I'm obviously looking in the wrong direction. Do you have any specific idea of what it could be? I'm not really looking forward to bringing the computer to a computer store to have it dissected without knowing the probable cause and whether they'd actually fix it.
There were no issues at all yesterday when the game was on for a few hours in the afternoon and most of the evening, but today the computer shut down (again without warning) only an hour in and it had been on for maybe 1-1.5 hours prior to starting the game. It's so unpredictable and my knowledge of computer hardware is limited, making it difficult to figure out what's going on.
The problem is, there are a lot of things that can cause random shutdowns. It could be something as simple as, like BaronElectricPhase said, dust buildup, to something as potentially expensive as a core component in its death throes. I had a computer once that was randomly shutting down due to a short in one of the interior power supply connectors. If cleaning out the dust doesn't help, try using a heat monitor to see if any of your components are overheating, and if all else fails, take it to a computer repair shop to see if they can find the cause.

It also appears that the last fundraising did not quite meet the quota needed? Apparently since the site is still going, someone would have made up the needed difference. If I donate, would my donation go to the next years' need, or just help to make up the last years' need that someone fulfilled temporarily until the money came in? The site wouldn't be here if the quota wasn't met. Not everyone announces their donations, and the FOJ doesn't always announce that the quota has been met, but if the site is still up past the deadline, the quota was met.

You don't help the Betatard. Why not? Is it because it annoys the Alphatards, or because you're afraid that the shock of getting a helpful answer might just kill her? If I thought a helpful answer would kill her, I would have been helping her all along. You don't help the Betatard because she is the fucking Betatard, and you don't encourage her. She's not allowed to post in here in the first place.

I noticed something after I put awesome mod in my game. After I introduce my teen sim to adult or elder they are not able to speak with each other autonomous. They just stand there. I think its the same with child and adult. But it work fine when they are conversing autonomous with parents (family). Maybe because they already know each other from start. I tested that with new game.
I like it. 12s should be seen and not heard.

Darkwolf Jr. was have [sic] computer problems and we have not heard from him in over 5 months.
I think we was have problems caring about creating new mods for a game that's been dead for four and a half years.

I've been playing Sims 3 on Windows 8.1 like I always do from previous versions of Windows and there's not a single problem caused by Windows. If you get any errors, it's the game.
Let's not rule out PEBKAC here. Most of the "game errors" that get reported around here can be easily fixed by swapping out the user.
