1  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: New Pets patch 1.29 on: 2011 December 15, 09:51:39
Just updated to 1.29 patch and I have to say, what a dumptruck of fail.

Go to launch game.  Game says my mods may be obsolete.  Try to run anyway.  Game crashes.  Odd, just got the newest "1.29 compatible" versions of my mods, but whatever.  Time to track down the culprit.

Began by removing a mod.  Same message.  Game crashes.  Removed another.  Same message.  Game crashes.  Wash, rinse and repeat until I have NO MODS LEFT in the game.

Same message.  Game crashes.

So to recap: I remove every mod from my mods folder, including the folder itself and the game still just says I have obsolete mods and crashes.

Guess I'll be playing something else and hope EA can pull their heads out of their asses for 1.30 patch...

A note on Sims 3 painting and the belief that blurry paintings are realistic while smudgy painting are not...

These are not photographs.  These are paintings.

So yes, I'd like to think that a Sim with level 10 painting and perhaps the Perfectionist train could realistically do away with the gamey Photoshop filters that are arbitrarily shoved down the player's throats by the game.

3  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Sick of my game's crashes! on: 2009 September 23, 02:43:04
I run into the exact same problem.  The game loads just fine with no hang-ups or delays, but as soon as I go to select any neighborhood or create a new one, I get an instant crash to desktop.

Here is a wall of text, which I'm assuming is some sort of crash log.  I hope it helps.

ADDENUM: Problem solved!

In my slackness I simply forgot to update to 1.4.6.  After re-reading the instructions (again) I noticed what I had previously missed, namely, that Awesomemod doesn't work with horribly unpatched/outdated versions of the game.  Doh!  Additional good news is that after patching I didn't even have to clear the cache files or anything else.  After that patch it fired up and ran without a glitch.  Yay!

Based on my observations, sims in committed relationships are VERY unlike to accept flirts, unless they have the flirty trait; you should consider this, too: maybe Nancy Landgraab rejects your flirts just because she's married.

This is correct, and seems to be even more the case with with the Awesomod installed.  As your said, them having the Flirty trait seems to open the door to flirting somewhat, as does having the trait yourself.  I believe that Charisma is also a factor, for obvious reasons.  Their mood is also an issue, so try to flirt in rooms with absurdly high decoration values, right after they just ate a great meal, and/or have all the furniture buffed up by Mad Scientists.  Anyone can be broken in optimal conditions, but optimal conditions often means you having the flirty trait, maximum charaisma, and them being in a perfect mood.  That last part can be the hardests, as your target will often be coming over right after work and have very low mood bars across the board because of it.

However, being receptive to flirts seems to be a flag value because if you can pull it off just once then it quickly snowballs into a Romantic Interest easily.  So if you really want to get Nancy Landgrab and have the Awesomod, there is an obvious (cheat) workaround to this: Use the CTRL+click to select her, make her flirt with your character once, and then switch back.  She's now flagged as being interested and will give a positive response to your own flirts, now.

I would theorize that TS3 does not actually meld the nmumeric values of facial traits into an average of the two parents.  Rather for each characteristic (nose, eyes, mouth, etc) it simply picks one parent at random and does a copy/paste of that value.  So what you end up with is a mix & match of the absolute, original values from the parents rather than an actual blend.

Some examples: One parent has a huge schnooz, the other has a small one.  The child will not get an average sized schnooz.  Instead they will either get a huge one or a small one.  If one parent is Asian and the other Irish, you won't get green eyes with an Asian angle.  Instead you will either get totally Asian eyes or totally Irish ones.  The worst violator of reality is, of course, skin tone.  If you have one dark brown parent and one light pink one, you will not get a nicely tanned child like you would in real life.  Instead they'll either be dark brown or light pink.  One or the other, never a blend.

This seems especially disappointing to me considering that the system makes so much use sliders and numberical range values instead of absolutes when customizing characters for traits.  It would seem like doing blending of these traits would be 3rd grade math for the programmers.  Instead they opt for the coin-flip method?  Highly illogical.
