Title: Will real parties ever be possible?
Post by: MyPrecious on 2007 July 16, 19:43:00
I have a question, I know you guys generally fix things and I could go to non-awesome site but his one is the best so I'm guessing I will get an answer instead of a- "I don't know, maybe you should try Maty?"

For a long time I've been playing nightclubs and finally I'm fed-up with the fighting and bitching and LACK of alcohol. It would make more sense if their obnoxious behaviour could be put down to a couple of beers, but juice? (Or maybe it's the prohibition that pisses them off who knows?).

So my question is how does the bar affect the drinking Sims if at all? A long time ago I read in thread elsewhere that someone had moused over the picture while her Sim was at the bar and the message read "getting drunk". But no matter how many times I try this or how long they sit there all I get is "having a drink" and a desperate need to run to the bathroom.

If the answer is, it has no affect at all, can that be changed? I'm not talking about falling down lashed, although that would be funny to watch; I just think it would make more sense and be more realistic if they at least attempted to flirt or something after a couple of drinks at the bar.
Oh while I think of it, does the champagne (used for toasting and parties) have any effect, after all that is alcohol? I always forget about it but I'm hoping someone may use it and have an insight into its effects.

Thanks.

So far as I know, none of the drinks (juice or champagne) that came with the game do anything except what's obvious - decrease bladder, increase fun or whatever.

I have some hacks that allow me to serve beer, wine, wine coolers and the like, instead but I don't think any of them really do anything either - just change the mesh to something besides juice. Sorry but if I'm gonna have an alkie in the game (and some of my sims are just that way), I want it not to be on the same thing their kids drink.

There is this beer keg that has drunk actions and animations, if you aren't already aware of it:

http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=200435

That's the only one I know about though, and it's only good for some places.

There's another keg from SimSlice available in booty:  http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/booty/simslice/objects/
I enjoy this keg but some people have had some bad experiences with this, apparently.  I think I've heard people saying they saw their sims trying to flirt with siblings/parents/etc when drunk.  I haven't seen this but I really only use the keg in lots with singles as I don't think a keg is really something that sims with children would keep around the house.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

I guessed that there was nothing connected to the bar that could change behaviour, however small. I think I will give the beer keg at Simslice  a miss, a I don't fancy any horrendous parent/sibling interactions.  :(

The MTS2 link sounds interesting and thanks for the info.

I guess I miss the bar the Sims1 had, they would have a drink and hiccup, harmless but it made me smile anyway…I don't have any Sims in my game that would take to drink for any reason, (they are nearly all knowledge Sims on the main neighbourhood with a few family Sims to annoy me) I play too restrained for that…damn! I have a few Romance Sims living on a Nightlife NH that could be excused a beer or two considering their hectic lifestyle…

It's odd that we have the power to torment and kill but not to down a couple of beers and giggle and flirt? I know real life is a lot different but this is nothing more than a game and booze and humans (along with a lot of other mammals) have a history with the ripe fruit. A little giggling and flirting and maybe singing would be a lot of fun. (As it is a game the power to annihilate the larger lout through code would be welcome.)

Thanks again for the links and information.  ;D

x2. I've kind of needed this... And I need a drink as well...

I think the problem with such a thing is that either nobody touches it, or everyone immediately turns into a lush on sight of such a thing. It'd get quite annoying. Perhaps if there was an addiction token, but then you'd need a ton of other links to drunkenness, and animations, and it'd just be a huge thing. Sim-intoxication is something much more extensive than what is really practical to do. But you're welcome to settle for the half-assed approaches of the non-Awesome, if that's what you wish.

It wouldn't be too bad as a community lot-only item; that way, you wouldn't have to deal with sims getting drunk at home, they'd do it at the bar and take the taxi home... or drive home drunk... might be interesting if that resulted in the cop showing up to give your sim a hefty fine.

Title: Re: Will real parties ever be possible?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2007 July 17, 08:29:53
I'm pretty sure that would make it worse. At least if were home-only, the potential pool would be restricted. As it stands, I do not think letting them get drunk on community lots and start flirting with everything in sight is a good plan.

Parties aren't fun. They're work not fun as Maxis made them. Why didn't they make it so they were fun? Stupid Maxis.

Simslice beer 6pack was almost fun: the sim keeps going for a beer until they 'get dizzy' and pass out. The 'dizzy' part tho was awful. The camera was made to spin around the sim and it goeson for ever and it generalluy sucked. I haven't tried the keg but I would guess it works just like the pack.

I haven't tried the MTS2 keg either.

It would be great if the beer  made them want to drink (like the simslice beer pack does), not pee too often as that just gets irratating (in real life too!), and made them start flirting and having fun--but the flirting and having fun should be applied as a multiplier to whatever their personaility points are. ie-- a shy sim would get a bit braver and playful, but an outgoing sim would get way brave and wolf whistle at everyone and dance like crazy etc. It would be nice if that multiplier ramdomized now. Grouchy sims could be 'mean drunks' get angry and start fights--but that should be randomized too a bit. Drinking more beers would eventually lead to passing out.

The same type of thing should be used for other parties--like maybe drinking punch at a birthday parties makes the sims more playful. There are lots of good play animations to tap into. Why didn't Maxis DO this??
But, face it: Maxis will NEVER make anything like real parties...

Heck, they turned the original keg they made into a pineapple because before it looked too much like a real keg!  EA will never do real parties..

I like the original better.  I wonder if it's lurking in the game files somewhere..

What are those green and orange things on the floor next to the keg? I never really looked at them before.

Actually I have noticed that when sims use the bar in the house, their facial expressions seem to change and they talk in a more animated manner. Well that , and the fact they can't seem to leave the drinks bar for minute even neglecting other things, seems like alchohol to me.  ;D

So a party is only a party if you're shitfaced?

I wonder how easy it would be to rig bars so that a sim who has a drink treats their relationships with everyone else as a few points higher or lower than they actually are.  This would cause sims who were either too friendly, too sullen, or occasionally two sims drink and get along better than they would have otherwise.  Anything more than that would be either hacked together like the above mentioned kegs, or else way more overhead than is practical to ask of a modder.

If the Maxian slang of "juice" bothers you so much, text hacks are also relatively simple.  The wink-and-nod euphemism never really upset my suspension of disbelief, but if "juice" and "bubble blowers" feel more out of place than spin-changes and the reanimated dead, at least that little bit is easy to change.

I seem to recall (but this might have been TS1) thta while sitting at a bar drinking juice, you could flirt with other sims as long as the cup was in your hand, or other drunken interactions.

Title: Re: Will real parties ever be possible?
Post by: Ellatrue on 2007 July 18, 04:18:16
Is it juice in the British version, or only in the American? I know in the German version it is Schnaps, etc.

What gets me is that if it is only a "juice" bar, kids and teens should be able to use it!

I miss the parties in TS1. And the party objects. House Party was so awesome. And you weren't limited by a stupid party score from doing interesting things- you just had to make sure everyone's needs were up! So there was a point to dancing, the hot tub, etc. Plus, since the game could handle more sims, you could have really wild parties.

yes, the parties in the Sims 1 were a lot of fun (until Drew Carey showed up and cleared the room)

and I still miss the bowls of party treats from SimSlice. I don't think they even added anything new, just used needs drops, and one sided (perceived) relationship rises, stuff that was already in the game, resulting in pants wetting, random flirting/marriage proposals to perfect strangers, passing out on the spot (and that sim being mad at you for 'drugging him')

good times... :D

I never did get a good party in house party... I had that moose and it was always dooping. Sometimes that damned mime showed up. Never could figure it out: I served food, put on music, stuck someone in a hottub to invite others in, sometimes pulled out the costume trunk, but never any luck. however, they WOULD pass out on my floor and spend the entire next day sleeping. Freeloaders.

Remember the stripper that popped out of the cake?  That was the best part of ts1 parties, IMO.  The stripper would inevidibly flirt with someone inappropriate and fighting would begin...ah, good times.

Ah, yes, and there was that weird monkey chick stripper you'd get sometimes... was it a monkey?

My memory must be fuzzy, I don't recall ever getting a monkey looking stripper.  I always got a pretty one in a little black teddy type outfit.  But it was so long ago now...
Ah, simpler days when sim children were pointless and creepy.

There were 3 strippers: a male, a female, and if you had one of each on the lot already there was a furry one.

By the way which expansion pack added that creepy clown that barged into your house if you had that scary clown painting?

There were 3 strippers: a male, a female, and if you had one of each on the lot already there was a furry one.

I believe it was a pink gorllia with lipstick. Guess they recycled the mesh for Sims 2.

I may be remembering incorrectly, but the gorilla showed up randomly if certain conditions were not optimal. The male/female seemed to be related to whatever gender Sim interacted with the cake.

As NPCs, they were fairly useless; there were CC dancers that were spawned by marked floor tiles and that were far more amusing to watch interact with Sims.

SimWardrobe had a most excellent anti-Mime Squad mod that would respond to distress calls and chase the mime around with a disintegrator ray; he also had an anti-Clown Squad mod. Very amusing.

I replaced Drew Carey with NPC Replacer tools and turned him into an equally annoying celebrity. Alas, Sims still had the thought bubbles about Drew Carey, which was somewhat funny, as it looked like the arrogant celeb was being mistaken for Drew Carey and swarmed by Drew fans. Then again, I replaced every Townie and NPC with Sims I found mnore attractive or amusing. There were no default EAxian Sims in my hood.

Celebrations for Sims 2 should have had a stripper cake, I might have even acquired it in a fit of nostalgia if they did. That was amusing shit.

I never realized the moose was a party success indicator, as I didn't want a moose head on my walls, until I got SS or MM.

In MM, I stashed some furniture items up in the little cloud area with the sleeping Wright giant and had Sims skill or veg out up there, just to amuse myself. It served no other useful purpose.

The Portable Hole was a similarly clever touch.

I remember Butlers were typically closet lushes who would swarm the minibars in houses. I miss the minibars. They were easier to integrate into Sim houses.

I never messed much with Servos in Sims1, either.

My fave custom content was a SimFerret that did much of what SimCats did. They were cute to watch.

The animated 'spooky' paintings were a nice touch in MM. I never messed much with carnival rides or drunken gnomes or dragon pets. The recipes and potions were a nice touch, glad they reworked much of that for Seasons.

Both the MM magic dueling and SS skilling were a bit too easy to figure out, but the coded results were hilarial. I never tired of seeing Sims hop onto speakers, ride giant yellow ducks while clad in tinfoil, emote as angsty slam poets, or get dressed as teapots.

It's kind of amusing to look at the pixelated isometric (?) Sim1 universe now.

Well, I dusted off my Sims 1 game; and using a female sim I could only order a female and male performer from the cakes.  No gorilla. :(  I didn't have her start a party so I'll have to try that to see if it makes a difference.

Lorelei, do you still have the sim ferret?  I searched and searched but I could never find it. :(

If I recall correctly the pink gorilla will come out of the cake if most of the guests are children. But it's been years since I played Sims 1 so I could be wrong.

I remember the Sims 1 campfire. Sims could roast marshmallows and tell ghost stories around it. Telling ghost stories would result in a ghost popping out of the fire and scaring the sims.  :D Such fun! I hope we'll have that available with the campfires in Bon Voyage.

You can't order a gorilla, it just sort of... happens. I noticed it when I placed lots and lots of cakes and just kept alternating male and female performers. It's a female I think.

I never bothered with MM or SS because I figured TS2 was coming out so soon the last two EPs were just going to be thrown together garbage or a last ditch attempt to get 40 more dollars out of me before I spent another 40 on TS2 and never use any of the TS1 games again.  I'm kind of happy with that choice because once I got TS2 I couldn't go back and I haven't played TS1 again since.  I'm sure I still have the CDs around somewhere, but I don't know where.  I don't know if I'll buy the last few EPs for TS2 or no.  I'll probably get Bon Voyage because I really did like Vacation a lot.  I guess it depends on how excited I am by the prospect of TS3.  So far there isn't any solid information about it, and if it's not mod-friendly I doubt I'll buy it until someone figures out how to mod it.  But it sounds like most of you really enjoyed the last two EPs for TS1, so maybe I did miss out on something.  I'd love some opinions!

I'm sure I do, it's just going to be on my other machine. I'll have to poke around and see if I can find it, transfer it to a portable drive, load portable drive to main machine, then upload to 4shared.

May take a while, as I'm knee-deep in commission work and school projects, but if you can't find it, I'll do it.

Katy76 has not only drunkeness but pot you can smoke or eat- now available for toddlers! I think it gives a motive boost and platinum aspiration.

Title: Re: Will real parties ever be possible?
Post by: Invisigoth on 2007 July 21, 19:12:17
The pot object by katy on mts2 was a disaster for me. It threw errors the minute I popped it down on the lot, it flashed and disappeared when it felt like it, and then it got stuck so I had to use stuck object burnination box to kill it. Fortunately it was in my test hood.
There is another pot object out there, can't remember who makes it, but as far as I know its the only other one.  I'm pretty sure its on mts2 as well, but with all this pixelated pot I'm trying its hard to recall.  Anyway, that one didn't glitch or act funky but the drop the sims get in their hunger bar from smoking it could be lethal in about 10 to 20 sim minutes. It doesn't boost fun enough to be worth the whole death trap thing. Plus you have to grow it yourself from garden plots that can only be removed with moveobjects on.

There's no rush.  Do it when you have a bit of time.  Thanks! :)

And I found more info on the gorilla thing..
Surprise cake dancers:
Buy two cake dancing cakes. Then, hire a male cake dancer. Then, try to hire another male dancer with the other cake. The message "You've already hired that cake dancer!" will appear. Ignore this, and click "OK". Keep trying to hire another male cake dancer, and sooner or later you will either get the Tragic Clown or Elvis. The same can be done with hiring two females, but you will get someone in a pink gorilla suit.

Oh my God! I forgot how cool parties could be in the Sims1. The stripper cake? The other stuff? LMFAO! Oh Yeah! Good times; bad animations and guests; Death to all mimes…
 .

Soylent sim- Yeah, a party isn't a party without being shitfaced if you are a biker like me, but that's not what I asked for, I asked for a compromise. I like your ideas concerning matching personality to booze intake, that way it would reflect real life a little better. But there is a limit what can be hacked so that's ok, I just wondered if I had missed a golden party opportunity.  I'm not keen on just text to make it more real, so I will go with what I have and remember with fondness the Sim1 parties that I was quite good at.

A community lot only item sounds good and kid/ teen restrictions too (I'm a parent ok, do as I say not as I do until you leave and wash your own socks).  :P

"Sim-intoxication is something much more extensive than what is really practical to do. But you're welcome to settle for the half-assed approaches of the non-Awesome, if that's what you wish"

Hell, no-one wants half-assed awesomeness that's why we are here. If Stupid Maxis/EAgames are too scared to allow a Sim1 type party the so be it, but I think it was worth asking if there is/was a chance someone out here could make it an awesome possibility.

"As it stands, I do not think letting them get drunk on community lots and start flirting with everything in sight is a good plan."
If you were me you would see the beauty of this, I need a kick up the ass to make this game more interesting, and random flirting and marriage proposals (as has been mentioned ) sounds like a challenge to me, (says I with my Romance mod firmly in place...see what I mean?)   ;D

The Sims1; Game, a game barely alive…People we can re-build it, we have the technology, we have the capability to make the World's first believable game. The Sims2 will be that Game; better than it was before, better, stronger, faster, (cue Sims video and insert fantasy of choice here) cue dramatic closing music…

No, not in sims 2, but yes I loved the parties in sims 1.  My sims were partying fools.  I had all the cool stuff.   The cake with the strippers and the pink gorilla.   The party favor bowls,  and a hack that made them stay all nite.  They would all be dancing and one would be playing the guitar.

And then some would get into the party favors and pass out .  And upstairs I had another party going on with the preachers pulpit.  I loved that thing too.  They would all boo the preacher if his charisma skill was low but if a sim with high charisma would preach they would all clap and pray.

Then sometimes during the party I would call up SimWardrobes, dial a slap and the bear or gorilla would come running in and slap somebody and they would start cying.   rofl    or I would get out the little voodoo doll and make one sim stick pins in another and they would run in and slap the sims who used the doll on them.   Yes, those were the days.   ;D

In sims 2, nobody can get along with anybody else long enough to have some real fun.  >:(
