Title: The Fresh Start Challenge
Post by: floopyboo on 2006 September 25, 03:08:16
Take one troubled Maxis teen from the neighbourhood of your choice and send them to college. Play them by the Legacy rules, with the following exceptions:

If you have to get their grades up to allow the move to college option, you may move them in with extended family members to facilitate this, or attempt to improve grades at home.

You should play them as estranged from their family. They may respond to contact by (maxis created) family members, but not initiate it. There's a reason they need the fresh start, after all!

You may not have anything in their backpack when they move to college except for the ReNuYu Porta-Chug. Any items or rewards obtained at uni are fair to bring back to the neighbourhood in the backpack, after all, they earned them.

After college, move them into an unoccupied lot costing between 15,800 & 20,000.

You may count adopted children in the family legacy if the heir is in a same-sex relationship. Alternatively, you may use hacks that allow homosexual procreation.(No need to force sims against their sexuality!)

How is this a challenge?

Quite. It's just Legacy with a Sim who already has friendships, and may already have skill points.

I thought that was more challenging than starting with someone neutral, particularly since being in the red like that usually indicates total lack of friends. It did in my case, as I played with Lilith Pleasant. I got more of a sense of achievement dragging her up from rock bottom & having her achieve her life's goal than I ever did starting with a CAS legacy founder. You also forget that the person not only has a few friends (if they actually do!) but usually has a buttload of enemies. You guys play your easy games. I'll have my challenge & enjoy it, ta.

I didn't think to do it as a legacy start at the time, but pulling Dustin Broke up from the red was a nice little chore. Between doing his homework to keep the social worker away, going to work, and taking care of his toddler brother while pregnant Brandi slept all day, I'm surprised that boy didn't go postal.

The SS doesn't take teens for any reason.

Can't teens be sent to millitary school?

Nope. Some code references exist for "military school", but this is believed to be a TS1 relic where kids that failed were sent to military school (and never returned).

I prefer that method, where they are taken away to military school and returned eventually. You lose any skilling the child would have potentially gotten. Kind of like running away. Of course, it would be a bad memory for anyone other than mean people.

Gah, I think the best solution for Dustin is to move him into a foster family!
