Hey, I like to sit on the floor -- it's better for you back and flexibility than sitting in a chair.

Of course, I practice yoga, so doing things on the floor is a lot more natural to me... :)

I don't mind them sitting on the floor to "hang out", but I wish they'd at least sit opposite each other, the way parents do when teaching toddlers to talk.  I had a teen couple today who were "hanging out" downtown, sitting on the floor with a pool table between them.  They couldn't even see each other!

The only adults who will autonomously hang-out are those who've been to Uni.  All mine do as I have a mod in that enables it.  I don't really see anything wrong with adults sitting on the floor - I sometimes watch TV that way, although I usually lean against the settee.

I think "Hang Out" has been enabled for everyone in OFB.

I do that too - I've done it since childhood, although my bones complain a bit nowadays.  Unfortunately, at this time of year I seem to do it less as this seems to be when the spiders take up residence in my house.  I am so afraid of them that I'm too paranoid to sit on the floor!

My only gripe with 'Hang Out' is when Sims feel compelled to block paths with the interaction. :-\
It would make more sense to check for a sensible open area or even do it outside (No Indoor Hang Out!)

I have TJ's "No autonomous Hang out" hack, thanks to Brynne.  :)

It is too bad that the option to "hang out" can't take place at a restaurant or bar where adults do meet in RL.

Or can it?  I've never tried.

I sit on the floor. Am I an adult or a teen?  ???

Sitting on the floor in a restaurant would be weird.

Sitting on the floor in a restaurant would be weird.

Unless it was a Japanese or Moroccan restaurant. :)

They can hang out anywhere - just like they can slow dance, pillow fight and play kicky ball anywhere, even without music, pillows or in restaurants. Sims apparently have no placement discretion.

It's so stupid that they have to sit on the floor to hang out. Why can't they find a bunch of couches to "hang out" in? Or maybe stand in a group?

Everytime they sit, they end up not only blocking things but, like someone said, sitting in weird positions that allow them no way to actually see each other. At least if they stood up they'd be talking over the pool table, not at it.

"The wood grain over here is really nice and polished."

"YEAH! It's the same over here!"

"That is totally cool."

"We are so cool for noticing."

Because "hanging out" while sitting in a bunch of couches requires no special action. The "Hang Out" action merely causess them to sit on the floor and yammer. If you simply have everyone sit in a couch, they will do that automatically. Even when you'd really rather they simply kept their mouths shut.

/me ponders the "Stop Talking Now" sign.

Sitting on a restaurant floor would be weird, and sitting on a bar floor would be really dirty and gross.

What bugs me is that since Uni, Sims invariably want dumb Uni things at parties: playing pranks, having pillowfights, and hanging out. I know when I have a party, the first thing I want to do is throw water balloons at my guests, followed by walloping them with pillows, and then a big pow-wow on the floor. ::)

I'm not sure why not being able to see each other would matter. Besides, they can probably see each other's legs under the pool table. Speaking is not a line-of-sight action. You don't need to see someone to talk to him, unless you want to zap him with your head-mounted lazor.

Didn't I ask someone to make me a thinking-cap remesh of a head-mounted lazor?

Don't know if you asked, but Paladin has a thinking-cap zapper over at simwardrobe -- it calls down lightning on your target.

It seems that your typing skills been slipping lately.  Are you sure you really are Pescado and not an impostor?? :P

And what is a "lazor"?

Title: Re: why you sit on the floor ?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 September 17, 06:58:00
And what is a "lazor"?
A lazor is like a laser, only not-real, as real lasers do not typically do the things commonly attributed to lazors, like, say, producing visible, slowly-moving beams and bolts even when fired in vacuum, and disintegrating people. You typically see these things in video games and bad sci-fi movies, often mislabelled as "laser cannons", yet fire little colored bolts that track slowly across your screen, in a very non-laserlike manner. This is why they are called "lazors" instead. When impacting targets, they may perform behaviors more commonly associated with BlueSoup's fat head, like popping or exploding, rather than behaviors typically associated with real lasers. Because if you can't be bothered to make it act like a real laser, I can't be bothered spelling it like one.
