Title: Game Crash *fixed*
Post by: Dea on 2008 December 04, 16:32:12
I previously have all Eps and Sps installed but Ikea and M&G.  The game was fine for about 5 months until about a month ago and it started crashing so I uninstalled everything.  .  Now I have installed the Base game, Seasons, and Apartments.  The game loaded fine the first time but now every time I start the game it crashes at Performing Pops and Locks in the loading screen.  I have been able to successfully start Body Shop numerous times.  No custom content at all now.

The specs are Windows Vista SP1 Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz, 2.0GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS

The game works fine on my other pc and its a piece of shit Windows XP Intel 4 2.00Ghz, 512MB RAM,  Intel 82845 chipset.  The problem with that is the computer shuts off randomly so I can't use it now.

edit:  No securom, I have the no-cd crack.

Did you do the obvious and delete groups.cache and all the other related files?

Yes, many times.  Trying to think of anything else but I cant remember.  Ive searched for game crashes but everyone else has game crashes mid game.  Mine crashes at the same point every time.  Here is something weird, the EA video and the intro video doesn't play, and they aren't disabled.

I had this happen when I only had Pets installed. I wish I could offer some better advice. I just bought Seasons and installed it and that fixed the problem.  :-[

That most likely means you need a new power supply in that computer. It will probably die soon.

That's awesome actually.  I thought maybe it was the processor or motherboard so I didnt bother with it.  A new power supply I can handle though.

Check your internal temps as well. It'll shut down at random if it gets too hot in there. Does it truly shut down at random, or only when doing heavy functions like gaming or video processing or things like that?

It shuts down even if I'm just online or not actively doing anything and no programs are open.

Hm. Likely not heat.

Try testing your memory with Memtest.

How do I use mem test? I didn't see instructions.

Well, I feel dumb.  I set the game to run in XP mode and it works now.
