Title: Leftovers jump.
Post by: ganyblack on 2008 June 09, 22:37:07
I have the Director's Cut for BV and the kittenkiller, as well as a few Kittenkiller fixed MATY fixes, nothing else. : | Now whenever my Sims go to the fridge to get Leftovers, they "jump" and the dialog for leftovers comes up, but it is always empty, regardless of how many leftovers should be there.

Any ideas? There must be a conflict, but I can't imagine in what, and I can't use Paladin's hack conflict detector, because I am not awesome.

What sucks is, I'm on a Mac. So it's not just a lack of awesomeness that keeps me from using Paladin's.

Is there an error log generated when your sims jump? Also, post a list of all your hacks here.

There's no error log, just the jump and the empty dialog box.

I haven't got a clue :D Have you tried buying a new fridge?

A jump means an error log. Attach the error log.

Okay, here's a stupid question. Have you got any custom content fridges that you've had since before seasons, that aren't updated for seasons or beyond?

If so, would that fridge be the one that's having the problem?

Title: Re: Leftovers jump.
Post by: ganyblack on 2008 June 10, 21:44:00
Tried buying new fridges, no change. : \ And it's with both EAxis fridges and custom. New lots, old lots, whatever.
Also, there is no log generated that I can find. In EA > Logs there is no corresponding log for this error. And maybe it's not a jump. The animation drops, and the Sim ends up standing their, their arms by their side, and they've lost any queue they might have had.

Do you have debug mode on to see if there's actually an error/reset while that happens?

Title: Re: Leftovers jump.
Post by: ganyblack on 2008 June 10, 22:27:36
With debug on, no error message appears, and no log is generated. :\

It really sounds like your food is shot.

Have you tried making more food and storing it as leftovers? It might just fix the shot food issue.

Title: Re: Leftovers jump.
Post by: ganyblack on 2008 June 12, 17:00:02
I've made a lot of different foods, and still the issue happens. No matter what food I use, if I put in in the fridge as leftovers, the jump occurs afterwards.

Title: Re: Leftovers jump.
Post by: Emma on 2008 June 13, 05:52:23
Don't use the leftover option. If you want to store food just make some and stuff in inventory.

[eta] It just occurred to me-you haven't installed lion's default replacement empty fridges have you?

I believe you shouldn't have perfect gardens *and* perfect plants installed together. That may be causing conflict. I would suggest you check your hacks for compatibility, one by one.

As I said, it's most likely a custom fridge. Try removing custom fridges from the game & see if that fixes it.

Also, reading comprehension ftw.

Sorry if my initial response to your initial question was not clear.
No, the fridge that I've been using was custom, but even with a different Maxis fridge, even with the custom fridges removed from the game, the issue continues.

With all my MATY hacks removed, the same. With all the Inteen nonsense removed, the same. : \ I'm at a loss.

What sucks is, I'm on a Mac. So it's not just a lack of awesomeness that keeps me from using Paladin's.

You can move your Mac "The Sims 2" directory in and out of a Windows system.   I do this from time to time to make in-game facial surgeries on insufficiently good looking Sims be inheritable by those Sims' offspring.

If you are unaverse to Arring VMware or Parallels (for Intel Macintoys) or VirtualPC (for PowerPC Macintoys) and can install a (preferably Arred!) Windows XP in that, then you can install a Windows version of TS2 (and all the same EPs you have) in that.   DO NOT RUN THE GAME IN THE VIRTUAL MACHINE.

You can then use Finder > File > Compress in your user Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 directory, which creates a .zip, which you can import (probably just by dragging) into your Windows virtual machine My Documents directory.   Unzip it there, and then install SimPE and whatever other tools you like.

Edit, fold, spindle, mutilate and conflict checker at will.   You could probably even run the game, but I don't trust EAxis code enough to let it touch anything I might possibly want to reimport into the Aspyr-fixed version on my Mac -- I have horrible visions of unnecessary byte sex flipping, catastrophic XML rewriting, and especially arbitrary file name changing.   If you're *just* doing conflict checking or the "manual binary search" method, then you're not going to reimport anything, so running the game or deleting files willy-nilly is harmless.  Just don't reimport the result.

When you're done in the rich world of third party external tools that are sadly unlikely ever to be ported to the Mac, *if* you're made changes you want to use in your game, just zip up the Windows game directory, import the Windows-made .zip back into your Mac, delete your old Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 directory, and finally unzip the Windows-made .zip in Documents/EA Games.

Finally, fire up your Mac game, visit several lots where you can see if the changes you made work (exit without saving from the first couple of those unless you are very trusting), and hopefully It Just Worked.

Be sure to use backups.   Occasionally zipping up the The Sims 2 directory (and putting the date and some notes into the file name) is a good policy and has saved my bacon (or at least my game) a couple of times, as has Time Machine.

I trashed my neighborhood and made a new clean one, and magically it works. : \ I'm not sure what had happened, or why it was affecting all the lots in my neighborhood, but I guess it's fixed... for now...
