Title: too many .bak files
Post by: simmerphi on 2007 December 22, 15:10:28
While using JMO's tutorial to delete some unwanted character files from my game, I noticed there were a lot of .bak files in my character folders.  I checked and they are even in the character folders for 'hoods I've  never played.  They are all the exact same size as the originals.

Are these files necessary and if not, can they just be deleted?

Any .bak file is too many.  Delete them; they do nothing.

Thanks for the quick answer.  I thought as much but with this game I didn't want to take any chances ;D

I believe that the .bak files are just back-ups, correct? So they should be safe to delete.

Yeah, it's just SimPE backing up everything in case you happen to have the average intelligence of a BBSer. I think the option to stop creating them should be in SimPE's options somewhere.

I know it's been 30 days since anyone posted in this thread, but I didn't see the point in starting a new one when we could just have all the information together in this thread (makes searching a lot easier).

I have recently discovered a load of .bak files in my folder where I keep all my custom clothes and some of them are over 3Mb big. Is it safe to just delete these same as the sim .bak files or will deleting them affect my custom content?

All .bak files are backups.  You do not need them.

And necromancy is bad m'kay especially when the dead thread had already answered your question.
