Simgoose, you don't have an option to select which fruit to use for a recipe that uses generic fruit. It will pick one for you based on what you have and it seems to go in a certain order.  For instance if you have apples, you'll always use apples for pancakes and other recipes. I had some of each fruit in the fridge, and first it used all the apples, then the grapes, then the limes, and then the watermelons. If you are trying to control which fruit you use in a recipe, make sure that fruit is the only fruit in your fridge. Have a different sim pull out all fruit you do not want to use and leave only the thing you do want to use.

Why would Prima print two different sizes of the same guide? Is the smaller guide at Wal-Mart cheaper?

OH MY FUCKING GOD! That's what this whole thread is about! WTF!

This post is just for idiots like me who:

1. Would buy a Prima Guide in the first place.
2. Would pick up a book the size of a paper back and expect it to have legible font size.

The guide Wal-Mart has is tiny and the printing is so small, I'd expect this book was made for insects to read. Don't bother with this edition unless you want to go completely blind. I will now have to march to Wal-Mart and stage a hissy fit in order to get a refund, because they do not like to refund books.

As you've taken the plunge on loser street, any chance you could have a look at the guitar challenges section and tell me what it says about the playing at 10 parties/venues? I can't clear it and it's pissing me off.

This is all it says "Guitar Star - Guitar Stars must play at 10 parties and venues in the town to earn their title. Afterward, they earn even more money for tips and performances."

In other words, sorry it's no help. I've wondered about that myself, and haven't found an answer.

I bought my copy of the Prima guide at GameStop and I can read the font just fine. In fact, several of my paperback novels have smaller font than the guide. I got it for 20% off and I had some money on my Edge card for some trade-ins I did awhile back, so I only paid like $4 out of pocket for it. I'm kind of glad I got it since I can't play the game until the crashing stops (I'm downloading 3dmark06 right now and I'm thinking of swapping with my brother's 8800 GTS to see if it's my card) so I've been reading the guide in the meantime. I know some of the info is probably wrong, especially if they wrote it using an earlier build of the game and EAxis changed things later. But it's still kind of interesting to read.

The guide they sell at Gamestop is the full size guide. I got my refund from Walmart today and bought the one at Gamestop. It's so much better. My whole point was to warn people off the one they have at Walmart because its really small, does not have the pull-out map, and is much inferior to the one at all the other stores.

Oh and yes, it is sealed in plastic. I was not even allowed to touch the thing, they had it in a locked case, they took it out and immediately locked it into a little security box for me to take to the front as if it was some sort of solid gold goose egg. I saw that the book itself was about the size of the DVD case, and I assumed that the text would be sized appropriately. Instead I find they merely shrunk the page down until the font is unreadable and the pictures look like postage stamps. I really had no way of knowing this.

My intention was not to get on here and bitch for sympathy though, I just wanted to let anyone considering buying this guide know, don't buy it at Wal-Mart.
56  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Installing a Bought Version on: 2009 June 04, 14:21:38
I had reloaded. I just uninstalled it and installed my legal copy. I told it to not delete my saved games. I didn't bother backing them up because I don't mind starting over. Anyways after install my family was still there. I then got all the store stuff from the thread in peasantry and it all worked too.

I did have a mess with my second computer though. I went to game copy world for the no-cd crack, and clicked a link that had a virus infested pop up. First thing it did was shut off my firewall. AVG couldn't find or clean it. The launcher was stuffing up and crashing my whole computer. I routed the shortcut around to the .exe to avoid the launcher and was able to load the game but then had big nasty crashes after about 20-30 minutes in the game.

I finally gave in and did a good old fashioned nuke and pave on that machine. So you might consider viruses if you have a similar situation, even if your virus scanner doesn't find anything.

I think you mean BUY not BY.

But you needn't have posted this warning.  Nobody here is dumb enough to believe a Prima Guide, let alone waste money on one.  Oh, and I *do* pick up books the size of paperbacks and find they have legible font sizes (even without my glasses) - this from someone who started wearing bifocals a few years back.

Fixed, and that was kind of my point. I can read paperbacks, and expected to be able to read this one. Oh well.

Yes, and the guide that comes in the CE is FOUR PAGES LONG and completely worthless. So yippee!

So you are essentially admitting you can't do your job?

Sure I could do my job, if I devoted more time to it than there is hours in the day. So no, I cannot do my job. If you think you can, be my guest.

*by the way, that might not be relevant since I am not actually a teacher!
60  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Important notice from the GRAMMAR POLICE. Plz read. This means you. on: 2009 June 03, 01:52:33
It's sad, really.  I noticed that my son's teachers don't bother to correct his spelling or grammar on most of his assignments because it's "the substance that matters" to them.  Apparently, AOLspeak is changing the way papers are graded.  Why in the hell has it become commonplace?

This probably also has something to do with overly PC public school teachers nowadays that are afraid to correct kids, fearing the wrath of child-centered parents.

Actually it probably has more to do with the fact that your kid's classes probably have 38+ students in each class. When you teach at least 200 students a day you cannot correct everything on each assignment. Next year in our district the classes are going up to 42. We save that kind of grading for the big important writing assignments and give everything else a few "pity points" for effort.
61  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 June 01, 19:20:44
So is it possible to have twins/triplets that aren't all of the same gender?  So far, I've only seen reports of all boys/all girls.  Anyone have a mixed batch?  It seems stupid to not be able to have fraternal twins.

I have not had mixed genders, but I have had what must be fraternal girl twins because they were not at all identical.
62  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: No censor hack for TS3 on: 2009 May 31, 20:24:25
This is SO not true. IRL normal people do woohoo during pregnancy  Wink Why on Earth would one suddenly become a nun after getting knocked up? Ask your doctor: you may and even should - it's healthy for the relationship.
Well, I suppose if you don't really want to keep the baby, that's one way of getting rid of it. Otherwise, I would think that the physicality of the process would be extremely harmful to contained objects.

JM, finally you are wrong about something.  Sex cannot harm the baby as long as the man isn't laying his full weight directly on the baby, and that is only likely to be so uncomfortable that you get kicked off long before you can crush it or anything.

Also sperm has chemicals in it that has cervix softening and pain reducing properties that have real benefits for women who are close to going into labor.

P.S. Have you never heard of doggy style?
63  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 May 30, 19:28:26
That means you can't eat fruit parfait, french toast, or eggs machiavellian. It's also possible that either or could be in pancakes or PB&J. Five meals that are effectively banned from pregnant women if you don't want sex determined, leaving only cereal (quick meal) or waffles for breakfast. That seems...terribly restrictive.

It is restrictive, but it's only for a few days. I also think we need to know more about how it works, because there are lots of good questions being raised in this thread. You can also try just not having any apples or watermelon in the fridge, but have other fruit and that should allow you to make any recipe that is just "fruit" and not specifically apple or watermelon.
64  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / About Collection Items on: 2009 May 30, 18:02:43
Do they spawn in random places or exact places that can be cataloged? So far I have failed at remembering exactly where I have found something before and I'm wondering if its worth it to keep notes.
65  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 May 30, 18:00:43
5 boys in a row, had her eat watermelon while pregnant, a a girl was born. I don't like it...its too predictable. I want babies genders to be a surprise.

So avoid apples and watermelon. Eat only fish or something and it should still be random.
66  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 29, 13:43:27
I'm getting really tired of the "feature" which causes my Sims to leave town. It irks me that after spending time creating them, and fostering a career and relationships they can just pack up and go. I have been losing my Sims left and right only to have them replaced by townies, and my Sims spawning. They need some sort of "lock household" feature. The only thing I am liking about the new game is that I can move Sims into a lot and not have to actually enter the lots.

The hair styles all look like they were developed as a collaboration between Peggy and XM Sims. Really the whole games reeks of having been cooked up by a team of pay site artists. The hair styles for sale in the store do not look any better.

Another thing this game is in serious want of is an eyedropper tool for the paint workshop. Is there one and I am too blind to see it? It would be fair easier to grab color off an object to match it than have to save the pattern.

There's no eyedropper, but you can use the create a style edit feature to go into the object that has your desired texture, drag it out of CAS onto the item you want to inherit that texture. You'll then get a pop up asking which place on the new object to put that texture. I hope that made sense... I've been awake all night.

Slang.  There are lots of words for the same body part.

Hook

My native language is Russian and I am telling you: NO apples. Not on telly or in books or in everyday slang (where I used to live anyway).

Do you mean apple is or is not slang for testicles? You are not exactly clear.

You do realise how contradictive you all are though right? Because everytime you call me a name or tedious etc. etc, you really are also describing yourselves. Why can't anyone have a calm and mature conversation without all sorts thrown in? And i don't know how i have not shown understanding of your concept of how this site works. And i'm not even one of the type's of people that plaster smilies and 'txtspk' everywhere. All i like is friendliness.

Jesus, you just don't get it. These are not nice friendly people. If you don't like how they talk to you, stop talking to them. Lurk around, absorb the helpful information, and stay out of the bullshit. If you want a nice friendly forum, go find one, because this isn't it.
69  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 May 29, 12:44:26
Ok... convinced.  My same couple had a second pregnancy. I had the woman eat nothing but store bought watermelon straight from her buttpack since she doesn't know any recipes to cook with watermelon. She had girls with ten straight reloads. That's a nice feature since I hate boys.
70  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 May 29, 05:35:17
After reading this i went back to playing on my newly pregnant sim.  I had her eat nothing but store bought watermelon directly from the inventory.  I ended up with twin girls, coincidence or not?  More testing required.

I've noticed one thing when you ONLY want ONE kid you always end up with twins or triplets.  Nevermind the fact that raising 2+ toddlers at once is complete and utter HELL.

Hire a babysitter?
71  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 May 29, 02:50:14
Gender in TS3 appears to be somewhat more controllable than in TS2: There's a cheesecake effect at work. Eating foods containing "watermelon" increases the chance of females, eating foods containing "apple" increases males.
I never got the Prima Guide for TS2, and heard about the "Cheese Cake Twins" from here (MATY). My question to any one with the Prima Guide for TS2: Was, 'how to have twins' mentioned in the guide?
Because without having the awesomeness that Pes has, how would your Average Joe now that by eating Apples and Watermelon would determine the sex of the baby in TS3?

The guide did mention it, but of course what they said was wrong.  They said cheesecake gave you only an increased chance, but in reality cheesecake gave you 100% chance of twins.

Oh good lord. Those friggin' apples!

To CharleeRose, no I only tried one family 8-9 reloads and then gave up.

So JM, when is the gender actually determined? From what you said I'm guessing its still at birth, and the game will look at actions during the pregnancy and determine it then? In my case, this family ate nothing but apple pancakes so by the time it was born there was 100% chance of boy?
73  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 May 29, 00:12:02
by reloading and trying again, Yes or No?

I've tried reloading four times and got boys all 4 times. This makes me think sex might be determined at woohoo (unlike sims2), but it's of course not enough attempts to be sure. Anyone confirm this?
74  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Career Profitability and Perks on: 2009 May 28, 06:26:00
On the subject of novels, there are two hidden genres that become available after you've mastered the three Writing skill challenges: Vaudeville and Masterpiece.

Vaudeville novels are 1250 pages in length and have a royalty value rating of 4. Masterpiece novels are 2000 pages in length and have a royalty value rating of 5. My sim earned around 8000/week for a Vaudeville novel, and over 12000/week for a Masterpiece. Both were best-sellers.

I didn't get these perks directly after fulfilling the three writing challenges, because as soon as you mentioned this I checked my male Sim's options and he didn't have either Vaudeville or Masterpiece.  He got the Masterpiece after a couple more novels though, but still no vaudeville...

I think Vaudeville and masterpiece are not tied to completing those challenges. I have received masterpiece and have only completed two of the three challenges. I still haven't gotten to $30k royalties. I have had 25 bestsellers, so I think I received masterpiece because of that. Not sure exactly when it was earned though.

Just a thanks...  This is my first time ever using a torrent, and I managed to do it despite being sure I was way too stupid to figure it out. I had to read about six million posts here before I could manage it so I really appreciate all the posts with questions and the great answers they received because it kept me from having to whine about it when I had problems.

Anyway BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh.
