my sims went out to dine in the downtown and i have no idea why everytime i ordered...
the waitor came with food and went "tada!" and left no food on the table.
then i checked the npc, it said i have to order again.
and i did it over and over again but there is still no food while i have to pay for the ordering fee...
what happened?

The table is borked. Is something on the table? Try forcing an error on the table.

Could be one of those custom food hacks that caused so much trouble with OFB.

I've got Mary Lou's custom foods and restaurants work fine.

I was thinking of this hack: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=127957
It caused a lot of problems when OFB came out.

This has happened to me when there were certain kinds of lights on the table, like the "Anytime Candles" on the patio tables at Crypt O'Night Club.  When I replaced them with the "Romantic Romance" candle/flower thing that's on the indoor tables, the food would appear as normal.  Maybe the size of the light or decoration on the table is the problem, since I haven't had any trouble with restaurant-specific ones like the napkin dispenser (which many of my sims have received as gifts after dates, gee thanks!).  This is with the one-/two-square tables, I don't know about the really big ones.

Don't knock them -- you could put one on the table at home, and it'll keep the sim who cooks from plopping plates for every sim in the house on the table. They'll just put the serving platter on the counter and take their own dish. The anytime light and romantic candles have the same affect in residential lots.

My irk is some stranger coming to the table and picking up my sim's guest's food, then walking off and eating it, leaving MY sim stuck with the bill and the guest stuck in an "I want to order ___" thoughtbubble and menu loop.

jsalemi,

What a great tip! I never though to do this.

I hate that they "serve' the food. If you cancel the action they put the damn plate on the floor & if you cancel before they 'serve' they plop it on the counter but the "grab a plate" option does not appear. I know this was different in the base game - I wish they hadn;t changed it.

I am going to try your fix right now Smiley

I always get annoyed by the swarm of hungry Sims sitting down to the table while the cook is putting down the plates, which forces them to Walk Away and put the plate on the floor - grr! So if I can prevent that, my houses are going to experience a sudden deluge of napkin dispensers and candles Tongue
