76  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: EAxis House of Phail: January 09 on: 2009 January 30, 07:12:14
I could never do a Legacy challenge... it's too much fun doing the goofy stuff.  Cracked me up, too, when Pescado made an appearance to check things out during testing.  Grabbed a drink, laughed at a few people, sprinted upstairs to do some spying when nobody else had wandered up yet, and then apparently remembered another appointment and ran off the lot.  It's in the slideshow, though the speed of the inspection was what really made it funny.

Witch, I have your lots snagged for next play session - I don't have any playable witches in this hood yet, and I want to get enough of them to use all those landing porches at the same time.   Tongue

So many cool houses this month.  Might have to make a neighborhood just for them.   Tongue

Here's one more... in under deadline!  It took me a while to figure out what to do with this lot.  The path was a bit of a nuisance. I kept wishing it would just disappear.

_____

Crickets chirp and all is peaceful near this quiet, unassuming mountain home.

Day breaks...

We see now that the home is a bit older, with some fresh paint and some signs of weather.  It's a small home, suitable for someone's grandparents, perhaps.

The yard is landscaped, but slightly overgrown.

The first floor contains a living room, kitchen with dining area, and bathroom.

The second floor features a large bedroom and a full bath.  Just one bedroom; the owners must not have many visitors.

The occupants can curl up with some good books before retiring.

This concludes our visit.  Shall we be on our way?

You've found the Underground!  It's the hottest club in town, but there are no signs anywhere, and if you don't have the most current passphrase, you may find yourself invited to partake of deelicious caek in the attached Eradication Zone.

For most visitors, the Underground is merely a nightclub, and a great one at that.  Sure, nobody talks about that certain club, and the Bubble Box may be slightly south-west of the legal line.  But you can't really get into too much trouble here... unless the club owner slides you a key to the second floor.

The second floor is where the Underground Elite meet to build skills, develop alliances and devious plans, and get thier marching orders.  From here, the UE can spy on the entire neighborhood (or the local college's women's dorm), and plot their takeover.

For fresh air, sweat, and playing the deity, the UE visits the training compound, convenienty located on the roof.

NOTES AND RECOMMENDED HACKS

The Underground

My game has an active underground, identified via Simlogical's Color Keys System. Criminals, vampires, evil witches, Landgraabs, members of secret military societies, and the occasional sweet teenage girl who turns out to be a criminal prodigy all get a key.  Most seemingly innocent community lots have back room poker and shady dealings.  This lot was designed to be their headquarters, a place to build skills and alliances to further their devious plans!  In my game, I'll be locking the second floor to allow members of the underground only.

To make best use of the training facility, replace the upstairs podium with Simwardrobe's Vocational Training controller, located under Objects > Business Facilitators.

The Watchful Cook

The hideout kitchen is designed for the uni NPC cook, spawned by the uni stove on all lots by the Simlogical ShinyTyme NPC Everywhere Patch. He'll make just two plates at a time, clean as he goes, and won't be tempted to serve food upstairs.  After taking these pictures, I gave him a bit of a makeover and now strongly suspect he's the brains behind the whole operation, watching everything...

This doesn't count because I was testing things.  Still made me laugh.

Side note... I was having trouble getting my pixel peeps to fight on their own.  Installing Rohina fixed that almost immediately.  Bubbly mean face FTW.    Grin
79  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sharable Custom set of townies? on: 2009 January 15, 01:34:59
Madame Mim has neighborhoods at Genensims that seem to do this.  I keep planning to try them, but haven't yet.  This is, admittedly, not helpful in itself, but it looks like a good place to start.
80  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More FUBAR Than You January: Gameplay Glitches on: 2009 January 14, 23:58:36
Not as FUBAR as some, but . . .

I had a babby go invisible.  Thanks to the batbox, she's visible again.

Oh, I so would have left babby invisible - and moved them to the psych ward.    Cheesy
81  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: EAxis House of Phail: January 09 on: 2009 January 07, 19:02:22
Ha!  That's the sort of house that makes the neighbors cluck disapprovingly while everyone at the house is having fantastic fun.  Love it.
82  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: sim or object floating, or flying. on: 2009 January 05, 23:59:50
SimMacFly potion is fun.
83  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: All Sims on Lot are Frozen on: 2009 January 04, 16:23:01
This is going to sound weird, but check that everything is accessible (especially toilets) to sims. I have a community lot I made that I put the sink and toilet in the wrong position and sims just get stuck until fixed.
Agree... mine was a DJ booth on a 45-degree angle.  If you can't spot anything out of place, try making each sim selectable in turn (which might take a while with the lag) and see what they have in queue.

Huge and probably quite lulzy in rooms that can now have ceilings.
Or from the floor above... [cue music from "Jaws"]

It appears to be "Attempted Futuristic Shower #1". And I'm still peeved we never got Chicken Checkers.
Pity, as showering under a metallic mustachioed nose just seems, well, right.
86  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: More FUBAR Than You December (New) on: 2008 December 29, 00:57:09
Well, that's one way to scare off the "talk to pet" want.   Tongue
87  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: EAxis house of FAIL: December on: 2008 December 28, 03:37:43
I'll give it a whirl.  This is a pretty casual lot; I wanted to try a few ideas and build a fun place to raise kidlets.  It's a departure from my usual more formal style and dark palette.  There are a few places I dearly miss the CC and cheats, but I'm pleased that the lot seems to encourage a variety of simmy activities.  The house is designed to get sims moving around, and they seem to enjoy it.  Such spoiled children, though.   Cheesy

111 Castleswim Way - $208,362

Front view:

Side view:

And the main attraction:

The castle playhouse includes a variety of activities: a toybox, chess, whirly-whatsit, easel, darts, ballet barre, monkey bars, slide, water slide, and diving board.  With so many activities that bring them sliding and swinging in and out of the castle, they seem much less inclined to become obsessed with any one activity.  After a couple of days of free range simming, the pixel folk acquired a nice mix of new skills.

The monkey bars have a bit of an oddity until body skills increase (see below), but that happens rather quickly on this lot.  For more realism, you could fill in the small waterway, but I prefer the moat intact.  Also, does anyone know a way to hide the floor/ceiling edging without cc?

Here is the first floor:

Features include entrance way with piano, sitting area with tv, 2 bathrooms, study, kitchen, dining area, outdoor dining, game area, nursery, and a private entrance to the upstairs master bedroom.  The nursery is located halfway between the master bedroom and the refrigerator for easy baby care.

Second floor:

The second floor offers five bedrooms (master, double, 3 single), four bathrooms, a gym area, telescope, chess, and lounge.

Just the bedrooms:

Master suite (private spiral stairs and door to the kids' hall) and smaller rooms:

And here is the file.  Pictures are included.

I think everything is in order, but this is the first lot I've packaged for sharing.  It's been through Clean Installer and is free of miscellaneous thingmabobs.  I'm playing on a laptop and it's a bit laggy, but on a real computer, I think it should be fine.

This was much fun - I look forward to January's challenge.
88  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Make any door function like an Apartment Door on: 2008 November 29, 18:16:01
I have found that it is possible to have a second door (single or double) to an apartment if you place the walk-over Pets divider around it and lock the door to family only.  The area inside the divider is seen as public, but locking the door keeps the inside of the apartment private (the landlord and other NPCs will still use it when appropriate).  The apartment door is still necessary, but can be used in a secondary position.

This only works for the apartment you are playing due to the locking issue, which works for me as I usually build one large house-apt surrounded by lesser dwellings.  However, it might be possible to fake multiple front doors using snapobjectstogrid false and placing the doors in unusable positions.  Just thought of that possibility; haven't tried it.

Lack of asplosiveness is not guaranteed.  It works for me, but I don't mind nuking a neighborhood or three if I find out later that things have become corrupt.
89  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Burglar appears as walkby, WTF? on: 2008 November 21, 06:32:25
I give them "underworld passes" (one of Inge's color keys) along with the vampires, witches, werewolves, etc.  Most of the neighborhood stores have a secured back room with poker, shady dealings, and the planning of riots and revolts.

Nothing is more creepy than a Jeffty-is-five kid browsing for huge lawn sculptures.
Beg to differ.  Wink

Sounds like this issue.
92  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Invisible apartment neighbours. on: 2008 November 01, 21:50:06
I had a similar issue with one apartment.  Offer up a pizza, and suddenly half-eaten pizza slices are wandering about mid-air and the punching bag seems to be rather tough on itself.  Poker games were interesting.  I used the lot debugger to fix apartment residencies (just in case), moved out, and moved back - all good.
93  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Playing AL without apartments: witches enough? on: 2008 October 03, 01:56:45
I read that you cannot make a second entrance to an appartment
While my game will likely explode shortly, I've been adding second doors by giving them a "patio" using the dividers from Pets and locking the door to household only.

Adding this setup to multiple apartments causes indoor community areas to be darkened like unplayable apartments, but using them for the one playable apartment seems to work.  I might try exploiting the lot "clones" to add the second door only when playing each apartment, but have not as yet.  One temptation of borkination at a time.
94  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Another idiotic topic in no way related to the first: 3D errors on: 2008 August 29, 03:00:14
Sounds like an argument between the game and a screen saver.  Possible solution:  Disable either the screen saver or the game.  Note that the latter, as an additional benefit, resolves all current and as-yet-undiscovered game issues.
