I'm kinda glad I started from scratch - much more entertaining!

Not quite true... I tried that once and I never got a new Pleasantview that way.
I had to copy the Neighbourhood folder from Program Files.
gynarchy:
Same here vecaroonie, if I delete the N001 folder my game restarts sans a Pleastantview until I copy the folder over from the Program Files.

I use the Enhanser to restore neighbourhoods. It backups the default hood at first. I play it as long as I want, make other backups, and when I am tired of it - I just restore the default hood. Works all the time.

For those of you that hangs on the "official" bbs, you probably saw me post this a million times, but just this once I will make an exception and post how to reset either all or only 1 of your neighborhood, here it goes:
For all of them, simply delete the Sims 2 folder located in C:/mydocuments/eagames (you will loose all your families in all neighborhoods and your custom stuff though this way, just make sure to do a copy of your downloads folder if you have custom stuff and you want to keep them). when you will restart the game, it will recreate all the 3 Maxis neighborhoods.
If you want to reset only 1 neighborhood than follow these instructions (all the families your created in that neighborhood will be deleted):
Make sure your game is not running when you do that.
Go in C:/mydocuments/eagames/thesims2/neighbrohoods folder
In that folder, there are 3 subfolders (or more if you have custom neighborhoods) containing the orignals neighborhoods of the game.
Here is what each folder correspond too:
N001 is Pleasantview
N002 is Strangetown
N003 is Veronaville
if you have more like N004 or N005 they are custom neighborhoods you added, those cannot be reset.
In the c:/mydocuments/eagames/thesims2/neighbrohoods delete the neighborhood folder that you wish to reset. Now, go to the driver in which you install the Sims 2 game, there are backups of each of the 3 default neighborhood in there. If you used the default installation path this will be in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods
You will notice the 3 folders mentionned above in that neighborhoods folder. That is N001, N002, N003
Do a copy (do not cut or move any) of the folder you wish to reset and copy it back in c:/mydocuments/eagames/thesims2/neighborhoods
That should get you reset without losing any of your downloads or having to reinstall the whole game.
Don't forget to delete the folder in your recycle bin before restarting your game.
One little thing you should know too, do a copy of the storytelling folder related to the neighborhood (which should be in c:/mydocuments/eagames/thesims2/neighborhoods/N001 folder for Pleasantview) before you reset it otherwise when you will start to play that neighborhood you won't see a story at all, after you reset it, quit the game and just place it back where it belongs.

You do know there are no benes here, don't you? :P
