My sim got a dog as a gift and now my sim's ugly

While my sim was visiting another family, they gave him a dog. Switch to my Sim's home lot and he's there with the dog, and his facial structure has changed (it looks like one of the default face templates.) I assume this is related to the Pets bug that caused custom sims to revert to default face templates if they move into a lot with a pet. I'm 99% sure I applied the Pets patch when it came out (is there a way to check?), which should have fixed this bug. I have Seasons installed now. Does installing a new expansion pack make it unnecessary to apply past patches or should I try installing the pets patch again? Also, is there a way to change the appearance of an in-game sim or is he going to have to have an unfortunate swimming pool accident?

I see there's a new pets patch out, maybe that was the problem. Sorry I didn't see that post before. My link to MATY is slow which makes browsing a pain.

You always can make a facial surgery to your sim at the Secret Society lot, when he goes to the college.
With cheat: download TJ's carreer rewards, and when the sim is a student, use the surgery machine (save the game before that, sometimes the surgery doesn't succeed).
