Maxis objects: Hide-able?

Anybody know offhand whether it's possible to make a "hider" for Maxis objects like the ones Jordi made for the clothes?  I've been futzing with the Object Data in clones of a counter I particularly loathe and having no luck whatsoever (got the thumbnail to disappear, but it took the object with it and left the space in the catalog.)  :p

Remove all category placements, and delete your thumbnail cache. It should disappear from the category completely.
Doesn't always work though, and might mean the object disappears from lots where it already is in use.
