Nightlife Nightmare

No virvus, no worms, no trojans. Nuttin, honey. My ZoneAlarm Pro and a.v. software are never off, except when I'm installing something. I have dialup and am not connected when installing software.
Have two CD-DVD-ROM drives - same result with each one. Cleaned them after I returned the first defective set. Ran diagnostics on both CD-DVD drives and both passed with flying colors and can install other software with no problems.
Maybe I'll mail the second defective set to EA and have them replace it, rather than going back to Wally-World.
Have 18 YAs in Uni, so I can pass the time by getting them graduated. Boooring....

If that's not the problem, then you probably are being impatient. The game does access and update every character and lot file you have at one point in the installation (and I know because I used Process Explorer to monitor it).
PS: If that's not the problem, then it could be you need to do a surface rescan of your hard drive (that will likely take a few hours and require a couple reboots).
SciBirg:
;D Or do the BBS default answer: reinstall the entire game... ::)

Ziggy, if you have win xp have you tried looking in the error logs (administrative tools) perhaps something in there corresponds to the install time that might give you a clue as to what is happening, also to rule out intermittent drive problems did you try installing on both drives with no success? If so, have you checked the IDE cables? Have you tried installing the game on a completely different pc to rule out bad discs? If you've already had a failed install, did you then uninstall the base game and reinstall? That's it, I'm out of things to try.
Except for one thing, have you ever downloaded anything from the exchange? It's surprising what can sneak through ;) Check your Sims2 downloads folder - it should be empty.

Thanks for all the suggestions; am curiouz, dizzy-two - just how long did it take you to install NL? More than an hour or two?
Surface scan is no problem if all else fails; have a couple of good books on hand.
Maybe I'll just grit my teeth and make another return/exchange and see if the third try is the magic one. Really did want to go bowling! ;)
