Problem solved about 10 minutes ago. Disk #1 went into my drive E. When I placed disk 2 in that drive, the installation hung up again so I ejected it and placed it in drive D. Bingo. I find that really odd but lots of things are odd about the Sims.
Wished I had read Baa's message first so I could have tried putting both disks in at the same time. Will keep that in mind for the future.

Hmm, good that your game was installed. I had to try like five different ways to get it to install before I thought of putting the discs in separate drives. You know the funny thing? It was an accident that I put 'em in separate trays.

It took me a mere 17 minutes. I consider that to be a long long time to just to do an install. :P
haha, on my old computer, which was a 600mhz processor, 192 ram pentium 3, the installation for the basic TS2 game took an hour! how's that for sloooooww...

It took me 4 tries to install NL. The first time, stopped at 51%. The second time, got all the way through, stopped at "please wait". The third time, stopped at 51%. The fourth time, I put the cds in my other drive and it took.
Wish I had thought to use both drives, too. I was at it for 2 hours.
