I actually had a little trouble getting it to finish installing, I'd just get that "please" wait little box :) I eventually got it to install by shutting it down in task manager, not the wisest idea maybe but I'm impatient and reckless lol.
Then about four days later I couldn't get the game to start at all, my CD drive just would not read the CD, I tried everything, including pulling the machine apart to check the cables to the CD drive and ended up reinstalling *shrugs*

I had that too, the unreadable cd I mean. It was just a corrupt groups.cache file. Once I replaced that the game started fine. I reinstalled anyway because...well, because I felt like having a new start after creating too many neighborhoods with too many characters before I knew the impact that would have on the game.

I had the please wait error, and a similar error to what you're having too.
Here's a tip that saved my installation.
Put disc 1 in one of your CD trays. Put Disc 2 in the second CD tray.
When installing, it won't say "insert disc 2" because it senses Disc 2 in the second tray, and goes straight through the entire installation.

It took me a mere 17 minutes. I consider that to be a long long time to just to do an install. :P

There is an explaination under tech help on the real site about how to copy the whole of Uni onto your drive, then install from there. It works with NL too.
That fixed teh exact same problem with Uni, so give it a try.
