Why don't my custom skins show up?

not much, really, if that's the type of sim you want to play... looks great for some of the romance sims I've had...

You don't necessarily need to move them to the Saved Sims folder. Instead, first take the whole Downloads folder out of the game directory. Then start up Bodyshop, which will automatically generate a new Downloads folder. Move all of your downloads to this new folder. They should show up, at least this trick has worked for other people who had their clothing, make-up etc missing.
