I had four custom paintings of Sims who had died on the lot. Placed the paintings in inventory, moved to a new lot, and they turned into the default yellow & orange sunset painting.  :-[

Does this happen for all custom paintings? Is there any way to get the original paintings back?

This did happen to me back in November. The artist had actually moved out and died on a different lot but when I put the painting in the son's inventory and moved the family to a new house the custom painting of his dad turned into the "sunset painting." I was pretty cheesed off but like you I have no idea of how to get the original painting back.  :'(

I haven't seen this happen yet in my pre-OFB game.  I have a family who has moved 2 or 3 times, and every time the paintings (placed in the father's inventory) are fine.  One of them was a portrait of the father's dead son, and it also transported successfully.  Do you use any hacks that may be affecting the paintings? And this may be irrelevant, but whenever my Sim paints a portrait of a family member, I always select the "paint Landscape" rather than "paint Portrait" option, simply because it doesn't involve the subject having to lie around for hours.  :P

I searched many sites for this topic, stepped into MATY this way, just to find the topic dead...

Here i go:

The textures of custom paintings vanished much to often, so it became very annoying to me.
With the new option to paint custom content i was able to reproduce them by backups that i made with SimPE, still annoying.
BUT!
I discovered that textures increased in size over the limit set by the game and where replaced therefore by the orange glow.

The problem is growing of texture files.

How can i fix this?

Until now I repaint them with my backups...

Nice to see you again, Pegasys.

I haven't tried moving portraits with the inventory but I did have one custom portrait still on the easel and when that Sim died, the portrait vanished.

Quite a crappy thing to happen if you're trying to preserve some family history.

It's necromancy, ZiggyDoodle. The thread is from early 2006.

This is why necromancy is bad.
