You used to be able to rename a package file into a world file, drop it into the InstalledWorlds folder, and the game would recognize it (...or so I thought). But I'm not sure that method works anymore, as I tried it recently with a few different worlds, and none of them showed up in the game. I had to install them all with the launcher to make the game recognize them.

I had thought about renaming the file and then crossed it out of my options, thinking it would be too easy if that were it. It actually worked. But all the characters in the neighborhood have folder names, even the lots and descriptions have file names, in game, instead of the correct texts.

That's because the STBLs are stored in the DCCache, and not in the world file itself.

Which is why, I surmise, some advise using sims3packs and the blasted launcher to install worlds. I only install worlds via the launcher because of this (I prefer not seeing string lists in world view), and occasionally I will have issues with a newly installed world not being listed in game. To remedy this, I quit the game, delete the caches and restart. Usually they show up after that, but if not (which rarely happens), I just restart the computer. That always seems to do the trick.

Any pictures? They only have silhouettes on the official site.

Those are some classy-looking items.  That'll definitely hush up the naysayers who think the Kitteh Purreh Cash Grab is going to be a hideous collection of glittery unicorn poop.
