Well, my speed was at 170 kB/s a while ago, which was shocking, but welcomed as that was the highest it's been since I started the torrent yesterday. Now it's back down between 8 and 10 kB/s. Pathetic, really.

I've already set it to allocate a high amount of bandwidth, but is there anything else I can try to help the speed along a bit? Perhaps changing some kind of setting in BitTorrent?

I used the FTP link someone posted in this forum and it took about 2.5 hours from start to finish.

For those considering torrrents, here are some tips:

-It's the first days the game is released so it's quite normal that the seeder/ leecher ratio is coocoo. Because it's such a huge file, many people with limited bandwith are gonna hit and run, it sucks but that's just the way public trackers work. You can use a private tracker for better seeder/leecher ratios.
-There is a good FAQ on the uttorent website for setting up a client to maximize speeds. Things like port-forwarding, firewall settings and router setup can have a huge impact on your speeds. If you force encryption, allow incoming legacy connections to be uncrypted on slow torrents.
I just skimmed through this article which is updated from march of this year:

If you are a noob and/or you are running the application's default settings for torrents, chances are they can be improved by following those steps.

If all else fails and you realize your internet speed just plain sucks, you can look into calling your ISP and requesting a temporary on demand increase in speed.

For a few bucks I can increase my speed significantly for 24hours by calling customer service and just get billed for it later. I'm not in the US though but it may be worth a try for some of you.

On a precautions note, VPN trials are great to cover your tracks when downloading such a popular file. Many companies offer trials for their pay service but you may also choose to use OpenVPN (free but slows down the connection for many).

I think my connection just plain sucks. As of right now, I'm living with my parents (yeah, I'm so cool) so I have no control over any of the Internet settings and don't know too much about it, since I've never had any control over it.

I'm okay with computers in general, but I am a n00b when it comes to this sort of thing, though I have used torrents in the past. I suppose if the speed continues to be unbearable, I will poke my computer whiz friend tonight and see if she is able to help improve the speed. She's usually the person who solves any and all problems I'm having with my Internet connection and/or computer.

Downloaded. Installed. Played for maybe half an hour, and it has already crashed on me, twice.

The game has never crashed on me before. Pretty peed off.

BriarRosethorn:
Add the game to the DEP. There's a thread on the first page of this board addressing CTD issues with Ambitions.

I'm giving up and just buying the game tomorrow after my driving lesson. My birthday's in August and I'll get birthday money from family members that will make up for the purchase, anyway, which I'll put towards university. Financial problem solved (in theory).

Just thought I should report that I downloaded the Rar linked, extracted it, extracted again, then installed. It installed without a hitch. It played without a hitch for a few hours until I closed it myself. It is the same file as the one on the torrents and should be just fine for Macs as there are mac files in there.
