Game is borked.

Never had any troubles with my game before. It worked two days ago and now it starts crashing while loading. I haven't installed any new CC and I've deleted my cache files.
Whenever I attempt to load a custom neighbourhood, the game will "encounter a problem and terminate". I can get into neighbourhood view on the Maxis base 'hoods, but when attempting to load the family, I get the same termination message.
I haven't downloaded or touched the game since it last worked perfectly. What the fuck should I do?
I have every expansion/stuff pack, should that matter.

Try moving your userdirectory entirely and seeing if it boots with a totally clean userdirectory. Otherwise, reinstall, check hard drive, drivers, etc.

It crashes even with a completely clean userdirectory. I updated my drivers, the game still kermitflails while loading a family. I'll try restarting and reinstalling.

Reinstallation + A clean userdirectory and it still fucks up. On top of it all, my custom content is all gone now.
Should I just give up and move on to the shitfest that is the Horror?

Your CC would be restored if you moved your user profile folder back where it originally was, so that's not an issue. Check drivers next. A driver issue could also cause this. See if anything noteworthy is mentioned in the error when it crashes.
Otherwise, sucks to be you, but you could always move to the Horror. :P
