I prefer to use SVN even on projects that I don't collaborate with, because I make mistakes. Sometimes tragic ones.

I find such squeamishness to promote poor practices and lack of commitment. As an adherent of the Cortez school, the motivation to NOT DO THAT is present because you BURN THE BOATS.
