What does talking to plants actually do?

Yes, I searched. I only found people complaining that they don't know what it does. So what does it do? It doesn't seem to raise quality like it did in Sims 2.

From what I've seen, it just raises social, but much faster than in TS2. It's perfect for loner sims without any acquaintances, but it seems to do nothing for the plants.

Well that's just about one of the dumbest thing I've learned today. So its no damn use at all then.
