The problem turns out to be a weirdness in the location of where I had installed AL. The full explanation is in the topic I started. SuckyROM may be a problem, but it wasn't mine.
OTOH, if the tech support people had actually asked a few questions about my installation the problem might have been solved faster and less painfully.

Oh nevermind i found it. It's not a fixed exe though its a No-DVD/Fixed Image file requiring you to mount the image in Daemon tools then modifying your registry in
RegEdit from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current ControlSet\Services\cdrom\Enum and change the SCSI\CdRom... data into IDE\CdRom...
Im not gonna do it. I'll wait till theres a NO CD exe.

Those "sweeping stairs" are true fail. I assumed from the picture that they would come in a left and right version which you could put together to make the wide one in the pictures, if you had room. But no, it is one staircase, and you cannot take off the middle rail!!! All the other staircases let you take the rails off >:(
