Food Eats You, but not children, it seems...

I may be being stupid here, but this is how I feed the kids. Before the kids are born/when they are toddlers, I make a fair few amount of group meals and just stock them in the fridge as leftovers. Kids can then help themselves. Is that any use to you?
No, not stupid at all. That's what I have to do as well, only I understood that with FEY, you could make many and everything gets stocked in inventory. Sims would macro-eat from inventory automagically, rather than access the fridge. I understand that this does not work for children (and even understand why to some extent), and am somewhat amused by this.

You know what would be cool? If children didn't get the free food upon going to school unless they had a plate of food in their inventory, same with adults. That would rock. And perhaps for jobs and private school, if they DIDN'T, but their hunger got low, it would cost money, since they're going to the cafeteria or out to lunch or something.
I disagree. Mind you, I don't actually care about school fee hacks or 20K handouts either. I have no problem with the "social democratic institution" of feeding kids at school. My issue is that I don't want the sim kids to starve while I'm busy doing something important/interesting over on the other side of the lot (like cowplanting one of their parents).
BastDawn:
I don't know if it's related, but kids can't eat food from platters that haven't been "served" yet. Or at least, they couldn't the last time I tried it, which was a couple of expansions ago. Try serving a plate before storing the food?
J. M. Pescado:
Unrelated: Macrotastics automatically compensates for this bug.

Yes, I suppose you're right, from a gameplay point of view. I guess it would be cool, but it would get old after a while. Socialism wins again!
And as long as we're on the topic of "probably wouldn't work out well, but might be cool anyhow", what do you think of Communist Sims? Food eats you, on a whole new level!
Yeah, my ideas suck.

It's SUPPOSED to work, but since it's a passive functionality that only becomes active when a sim autonomously accesses the fridge, children may not choose to touch the fridge.
Also, a lot of people panic prematurely about the food thing, much like EAxis does. There's a second hook on FEY that will fire at some point, assuming the sign is not locked up in a place that is inaccessible like the fridge should be. Fridge in kitchen, locked, FEY outside in the dining room, is the recommended config.

Well, it's obvious how they get food at work: By mooching! Doesn't everyone manage to mooch free office snacks? Heck, the food is probably one of the benefits there, so it's only natural that your sim scarfs up free food. As for school food, hey, kids have recess. Presumably, the school has a playground. That's like an all-you-can-eat buffet right there. I know it was when *I* was a kid. Mmm. Squirrel.
